There's more to being goth than just having a female vocalist. The use of synth and the composition of their guitar riffs bears all the hallmarks of (European) power metal. December 7, 200520 yr You *Can* classify Dimmu Borgie as "Symphonic Black Metal" BUT... That defeats the purpose of "Black Metal". Black Metal was meant to be RAW, with low quality recording. Not to be uber- synthesized with some *clean* vocals. and Nightwish is technically Power Metal. It wouldn't be *too* outlandish to say "Gothic metal", but its still not the case. and Yes, Trivium is NWOAHM (New Wave of American Heavy Metal) due to the facts that... They have clean vcals in nearly all of their songs, and the guitars stray off from "low tuned" was too often. And YES. I am proud to be an Elitist, But I don't stray away from crappy music. I listen to Falloutboy, Trivium, Atreyu, Dimmu Borgir, KsE, Finch, All- American Rejects, etc. You name nearly any type of music, I like it. I just want to clarify things, and help people along in their musical tastes. :wink:

I'm going to have to agree with Nec--Nightwish is without a doubt power metal. The synths often give them a symphonic sound with actually can be similar to gothic metal, but Nightwish's energy-driven guitar riffs are blatantly power metal.
