Boogie
I am looking for any kind of metal bands that have great sound and great lyrics. Power, Progressive, Gothic, Death, etc. I don't really like Death Metal because of the vocals and the lyrics are a little to evil for me, but if it has good sound I will consider it. I know of Stratovarius, Nocturnal Rites, HammerFall, Dragon Force, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Visions of Atlantis, and I can't think of anymore right now. Thank you a lot.

rocketman089
Tool, i really liek this band. Worth checking out, my favorite song by them is Schism (don't know if i spelled it right) Though Tool is a flippin awesome band, I don't think it's necessarily in the genre the guy's looking for (sorry for the rather moot post, I can't really name any metal bands either, not really my bag). paul_wilson
Trivium and Atreyu are great metal bands. Lipgloss and Black by Atreyu and Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr by Trivium are both really great songs. Iron Maiden have awsome lyrics but arnt heavy like todays metal bands. First and only pixel thinger I made.
DragonFirenze
If your into the early 80's infulencial (sp?) stuff then you cant go past early metallica, iron maiden etc. I like bullet for my valentine but i dont know if thats what your looking for. Lvl 80 construction. AThousandLies
I think Type O Negative would be right up your alley.
Rizla
Hmmm, i read the title and was about to barrage the thread with a shedload of band names, then i read the bands that you already like and decided that none of them fit that style. I think Necromagus would probably be able to recommend a few though, i've seen those bands pop up on his 'now playing' script from time to time. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time. Necromagus
Right, I guess that's my cue. Power: Try Dream Evil, they're a Swedish band that has some very cheesy songs/lyrics, but solid musicianship. Also, Concero Moon. They're a Japanese power band. Their main weakness is that the production is sometimes quite poor, but they can be enjoyable. Progressive: Dream Theater. Nuff said. Besides that, try Ayreon. There are many influences in their metal operas, but Prog is usually the dominant sound. Note that this isn't a band, but a series of projects produced by Arjen Lucassen with a wide host of guest musicians, most notably Bruce [bleep]inson (Flight of the Migrator) and James LaBrie (The Human Equation.) Gothic: No idea if you're looking for the more traditional stuff (Lacrimosa) or more directly metal-orientated bands (Tristania). Death: Not really into that, but early Therion material might be what you're looking for, probably the EP "Time Shall Tell." Can't really help you any further than that. Some other bands you might want to look into... Oomph!: German industrial band, allong the lines of Rammstein, although they've been around a lot longer. A good album to start with would be Wahrheid Oder Pflicht. Haggard: Symphonic metal band with 18 members. They use a lot of classical instruments, and a lot of their instrumental parts are written along the lines of traditional classical music. The classical elements, along with some slight folky influences and a metal base provide some pretty solid music. The vocals are a mix of traditional operatic vocalists and death metal grunts. topham
Trivium and Atreyu are great metal bands. Lipgloss and Black by Atreyu and Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr by Trivium are both really great songs. thats an insult to metal. those bands are metalcore to the heart... metalcore is not metal. it may sound very much like it... but its just not proper metal... anyway. metal. speed metal: judas preist or cacophony. industrial metal: either rammstein or nine inch nails. thrash metal: slayer. -Destroy Topham-
Katastrofen
Red means strongly recommended! I gave you a song or two from each band to check out. Power: The main problem I have with Concerto Moon is their vocalist, actually. - Kamelot, "Centre of the Universe" - Rhapsody, "Autumn Twlight" - Adagio, "In Nomine" Progressive: I totally second the Ayreon suggestion. - Symphony X, "Smoke and Mirrors," "Awakenings" - Pain of Salvation, I love these guys. Every album of theirs is a plot driven concept album (think DT's SFAM). Check out "Martius/Nauticus II," "!(Foreward)," "The Perfect Element," "Rope Ends" - Angra, "Fireworks," "Wings of Reality" Gothic: Oh, totally forgot about Lacrimosa until Necro mentioned them. He probably knows more about them than I do, but check out "Malina." Death: Yeah, I'm not really into Death either (the vocals usually make me laugh). BUT you can try: - Opeth, "The Drapery Falls" Symphonic: - Therion, "Emerald Crown," "Vanaheim," beware, though, their sopranos go really high sometimes, lol. Folk: - Moonsorrow, they've got a Folk/Death metal thing going. For a more proggy song by them, try "Raunioilla." - Ensiferum, they've got a Speed/Folk/Death metal (rofl @ metal subgenres) thing going. Try "Slayer of Light," "Hero in a Dream" - Finntroll, so quirky, "Trollhammaren" cacophony. Good call. Check out "Concerto" by Cacophony. Crazy guitar skills. Rizla
been listening to Still Remains lately, bit hardcore for my liking though (never thought id say that  ) I like Still Remains, except for the vocals. It's wierd because they didn't sound anything like that when i saw them live, but on the CD the vocals really get to me. Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
