Lageris89
Pantera, Mastodon, Strapping Young Lad, Exhorder. If you want more extreme stuff: Deadwater Drowning, Zyklon and The Red Chord are all awesome bands. If you want real metal, and not the trash mainstream stuff I've seen recommended a lot in this thread, steer way clear of bands like Trivium, Bullet for My Valentine, etc, etc.
Poopingman
Whats wrong with Trivium? I know they claimed they were the next Metallica, but that doesn't detract from their music. I tried strapping young lad but I wasn't feeling it...at all  Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....

I tried strapping young lad but I wasn't feeling it...at all  They're terrible. The vocals are ridiculous, and that singing makes them only just above emo. They've just appeared on the scene and out of luck, mostly from Download, got a load of media attention. It's gone straight to their heads and they think they're the best band on the planet. They're not. And I really don't understand how you could prefer Trivium over Strapping Young Lad. They are superior in every possible way. Especially Gene Hogland, he is one of the best drummers I have ever heard.

Maybe if you tried some slower songs like Love? Or Landscape off Alien.

Lageris89
They're totally different to any other band out right now. Alien was the album of the year in my opinion. You've just gotta listen with an open mind, if you like heavy music, you should love SYL.

Nadril
Yuck. Being the self respecting metal fanatic that I am, I'm saddened by what I see being recommended here. Most aren't metal, and when they are they are mostley garbage. Thread maker: It seems you are into the the new style of german power metal. That's cool, although I dont really like it. If you like bands such as those, though, you need to check out the undisputed masters of their school: Helloween. They arguably started that sound with Keepers of the Seven keys Pt 1 and made a master piece with pt II. Download 'I Want Out' 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys' 'Halloween' and say... 'Victim of Fate'. Those songs will give you an idea of how power metal should be played. Also, if you like the more progressive stuff check out the masters of 'prog power metal': Fates Warning. Their albums 'The Spectre Within', 'Awaken The Guardian' and 'No Exit' are all classics, not to mention top quality. They'd blow stratovarius out of the water any day. Other mentions: Grave Digger - Rebellion, Running Wild - Riding The Storm. Hell, ill give you my email and we shall talk further! You're on the right track dude, keep on the metal path! There's nothing better. A lot of the suggestions i've seen are European metal, which I think is much more metal than a lot of stuff. I'm taking notes on this thread. I'd name some bands, but you know them all already / people mentioned them. Hmm.. can't be arsed to see if anyone recomened Apocolyptica or Lordi :) . Saxon is a great band too (love their song Crusader)
Incod
Hohto.... You KNOW that I am a fellow Burzum fan. So here I go... Vikernes was formerly a member of the far-right extremist group "Hvit Arisk Motstand" ("White Aryan Resistance"), and was once involved with the "Norsk Hedensk Front" ("Norwegian Heathen Front"). Varg Vikernes has expressed interest in Neo-Nazism and has written several books dealing with his worldview. Although this is true, Vikernes did not express his National Socialist worldview in Burzum. Indeed.
