hohto
In Flames (not sure if you can call them underground now) UG bands don't: * Don't sell ~20 different shirts + skihats * Don't have that big tours (look at their website, big tour starting :o ) * Don't appear on 9 different DVD's released by Nuclear Blast. * We can't read about them from Finnish dailymagazines. Don't take me wrong, I'm not against them :P Just makes me wonder what's UG and what's mainstream if In Flames in UG. I mean at the current metal world they are one of the most mainstream bands :P I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm

Exarch
I don't know much about music, but I haven't heard people talk about these bands before.. I listed a couple good songs from each. The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (lies), Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out), Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) The Tea Party - Heavens Coming Down, Walking Wounded (apparently the lead singer of this band left this year)

AThousandLies
This may seem a tad fascist of me, but many bands mentioned here are NOT underground. For most underground bands, their CD's must be ordered from Amazon, Ebay or the bands' official site. There are a few levels of mainstream - stuff like Green Day, Britney, U2 - things everyone knows about. Then there's another level of it, that's kinda in between, which a lot of bands mentioned here fit into (Lamb of God, In Flames, CKY, Killswitch Engage, Arcade Fire), and then there's actual underground music - bands that generally don't reach ANY charts, with CD's that in most cases ordered or bought from small independant music stores, and which rarely get soundtrack appearances, tour worldwide or anything similar (unless they're opening). ryderj716
I mean bands that never have record companies selling everything to people that don't know what REAL music is. 1690 total and unranked strength. Lol, the only way to get actually underground music is by going to shows... I go on tour with a punk rock band so I see a lot of good bands that no one knows about, like Ms. Led, Minus Story, 50 Foot Wave and quite a few more that I can't think of at the moment. There is good music thats popular too because they attract both the lazy ear of MTV and most of the world, plus the people that actually know what music is, I'm reffering to guys like Green Day and Modest Mouse. 1690 total and unranked strength. Althalus
I don't know if anyone has heard of them: Madison's Panic- British Columbian band, haven't made it big yet, you can sample their music at http://www.madisonspanic.com Bloc Party: Don't know if they're main stream or not but it seems if I ask anyone about them they don't know so maybe. Eagles of Death Metal: Don't know if about their "undergroundedness" etc.
stevester77
Echo and the Bunnymen.. they were popular in the 80's, since they they've fallen into obscurity with cd's mainly being found at independent record stores. So your definition of underground depends on this one The Locust? Electric Light Orchestra: They have a few well known songs from the 70's, but ask someone about them and expect a look like this: :?
