Here's my opinion on this issue:

For now, I don't really think we have huge amounts of spam and off topic issues. On occasion, something will come up and we all get sidetracked, but it usually goes back to the point pretty soon. It's sort of bound to happen when you know all the people in a forum so well, and there is such a large volume of posts. It's hard to draw the line based on whether or not posts should or should not add to post count. For a start, this thread is an awful, awful example of this forum in general. Besides that, sometimes our threads overlap (ie: talking about dungeoneering in the Hegemony thread), but because there's literally only a dozen of us, I don't really think that matters too much, and even that doesn't happen that often.

Personally, the only part of post count that I care about is that it's high enough that I don't look like a new member of the forums, so people will at least trust me (ie: if I post a link) for that reason alone. If the change stands, I don't really care that much. I do kind of like seeing how it goes up over time, and since I post mostly here that gets rid of that, but that's the only thing that really bothers me there.

I don't really like this being compared to forum games, because other than in name, I find them almost completely dissimilar.

In any case, yea, there is 'banter', but look into any of the real games, where the vast majority of posts are. The situation isn't nearly as bad.

EDIT: Also, I dunno about anyone else, but I don't think high post counts have ever influenced anyone to join this forum, much less the top 20 posters list.

EDIT2: Das, remember that the censor isn't enabled for Admins, so if you swear it goes through.

There are other forums that would enjoy advertisement just as much (Forum Games, people wanting actors/etc. in RuneScape Media, recruiting artists to The Art Bazaar, people advertising their blogs, the Varrock Library, etc.). But we simply cannot have every forum advertising through various means (whether it's by collecting massive post counts or posting advertisements in other forums).

\

The Tavern's description is 'The falador library's rowdy neighbor with unrestricted access'; It hardly states what we are about. We also are a subforum, making it even less likely someone will find us. If it hadn't been for hegemony 1, I never would of found tavern.

If you guys think a change in description would be beneficial, that can certainly be arranged.

If post's were considered "unworthy" they would not be in public view, the casual conversation format of this forum and laid back atmosphere where role play and banter seamlessly flow interchangeably was the major catalyst for making this change.

Mind finding the banter in Dungeoneering, 2025 and End of the begenning? Even the hegemony didn't have much until the last couple of days, due to it slowing down to a crawl. I still don't really understand why this subforum gets labeled as junk posts, while the subforums for OT still are counted. Most of the topics there have 1-liners, and don't seem any more in-depth than a run-of-the-mill post here. Many of the junk posts here are caused by a particular person, which has caused various issues attracting the other moderators here. It seems that this is the main reason posts don't count, as the decision was rather spontaneous (to the forum-goers). It's just a shame that the falador tavern community feels downplayed, I am sure that some of the other RP-TCs feel a bit hurt as well, making interesting stories only to be (essentially) viewed as "banter" by the TIF community, moderators, forum, w/e.

TUBULAR BELLS!

Why does it matter, do you guys actually care about your post count? :S

Obviously I do not, since I'm a god damn dragon slayer! En garde Ljubljana!

The way I see it, either we (admins/mods) can crack down on spam/off-topic posts and thus remove our leniency in this forum and reinstate post count. Or you can accept the loss of post count and our leniency will remain. Again, just looking at this thread, there are spammy posts that we let slide here that would be removed in any other forum on Tip.it (names removed from quotes):

1: I see this regularly on all parts of every forum.

2: Removing the names from spam posts... from bias and bad experiences I immediately (whether correctly or not) think: "HEX!" and I'm sure I'm not the only one. This is off-topic a bit, but I just wanted to mention it. That is a fire that doens't need to be fanned.

3: I say we give all the mods and admins here a part-time job at the Haven & Hearth forums, both to help the community there and show them true off-topic heinous bedlam.

you know, i actually dont mind. new players equals headaches, but so do spam posts. if we make it so spam posts are not counted, that leaves a lesser reason for people to spam. als, nex, you were right, on every single quote. although the smiley includes afew other people.

I believe the order is Sere, Me, Sere, Trol.

Ima go check

edit: Me, Me, Sere, Dungeonal.

1/2 ah well. Though the first smiley was directed at Laikrob's OP.

How about we do this, we can, for one week, do like we usually do but collect(quote) all the spam we notice in a pm. Once that is done you can decide if it really is too much and/or if it is specific users who continously spam.

-Please do not that a post which is short or seemingly OT does not neccesarely have to be spam.

Or we could just, y'know, not mind? It's only a number.. Most of you already have more than a thousand.

I mean, I know admins are supposed to deal with this kind of thing.. but Tavern is awfully noisy with respect to the admins at the moment. Painfully so. Just get over it.

Yup yup.

I get why you two don't mind it, but it is kind of addicting being on the top 20 posters list, especially if you've tasted such ranks as 1th, 2nd and 3rd.

Also I have a feeling that TIF might be close to the world record of highest avarage posts per day. Though I can't find the current... if there is one...

We're nowhere near the world record, if it is even official.

I.. I really don't mind all that much about the post count. Although a topic telling us that you were changing it would have been nice, since then this whole ordeal could have been (Kind of) diverted, since you could just state your reasoning and such on the topic.

Post count was nice while we had it, but we don't really need it.

So everyone, please stop [bleep]ing about post count and get back to the actual purpose of this forum - PLAYIN' SOME ROLEPLAYING GAMES.

Exactly what I mean. Dusty is one of the less blinded-by-bias individuals and so got the right answer, but Earth and I assume that the posts were from Hex. We have a problem here.

And honestly... I have no idea why any post should not be counted. It really shouldn't matter. If anyone is unhappy, they report the post and it gets deleted. We really love the Falador Tavern, and we do often go OT, but I don't see why that matters so long as we're having fun.

I don't care that much about post count, but it seems ridiculous to go to the trouble of removing it. It will discourage people from this subforum even more.

I disagree.

Dusty is biased against everyone. I suppose that most people are biased against some people nowadays, but Dusty is being unbiased about it.
