After the Dragonkin/Majharrat, what's next?

Featured Replies

I loves me some time travel.

Going all WHOOPS CREATED A STABLE HERBLORE TIME LOOP and everything.

And of course people coming out of portals sounds dumb but it's kind of how everything and anything got onto the planet in the first place. (And I'm pretty sure the RTS coming out at around the same time using those same portals wasn't a coincidence.)

The whole planet has really just been a kind of strange social experiment for the gods.

How would you expect the origin story to go? Put a lot of bright lights and explosions and get John Williams to compose the score?

I still think there's more to this than just a bunch of nuts in a power struggle though, so they need to get to finishing this Majharrat storyline so that we can move on.

Perhaps they will release a new world one day, one that starts out small just to get us excited and satisfied.

Kinda like how they did with Mos Le Harmless.

If I dont remember wrong, they started by releasing the town and docks to get there, then later added the rest of the island.

I'd like that. :P

I get the feeling that the end of the Majharrat storyline will only bring more questions than answers.

There isn't enough content yet with the Dragonkin involved in the storyline for them to end with the Majharrat. What I'm guessing will happen is that during the Majharrat ritual, the Dragonkin will intervene in one way or another and destroy all the Majharrat. This would end the storyline with a dramatic twist while opening an entirely new storyline.

This puts the Dragonkin in a prime position to have their own series of quests just about defeating them and re-obtaining the Stone of Jas. Perhaps a series that eventually has us re-hide the stone back to a new location.

The difference between Runescape and other games is that Runescape has a very slow progression of storylines. This is why there isn't that much lore about it. There are so many storylines the quests developed are so far apart they lose their feel for the players role in the story. Other games come out the patches that have a storyline done from start to finish while Runescape's can take 4-5 years in-between to finish.

I would rather have them do quest series, like they are doing now with the void knight series, and just finish every quest series before they continue onto the next.

Actually, I like it how it is, it's a more natural progression of events, even if it's become a bit slow recently. I don't think it would be right if a whole slew of things happened around Varrock and nothing happened anywhere else for several months.

Jagex needs to have more quests that actually change things with real consequences. Taking from the 5 most recent quests, Elemental Workshop III was only a logical progression from Elemental Workshop II, nothing more. Fairy Tale Part III was again only a logical progression from Fairy Tale Part II, and it didn't seem to affect anything in Gielinor at all. Buyers and Cellars was just a few thieves up to their usual tricks. The Blood Pact was just rookie Zamorakians up to their usual tricks. Rune Mechanics was just Saradominist wizards up to their usual tricks. In short, nothing consequential is actually happening here, when there really could be.

On the positive side, the time travel thing really has something going for it. I think Gypsy Aris is a time traveller, and if that's right, then she could have had a hand in more past events than she makes out. Also, the way the enchanted key works is very similar to the time bubble in Recipe for Disaster.

I love the Mahjarrat quests so I really hope it spins off into Dragonkin quests or something along those lines :(

Although it sounds awesome, I believe it's a bit early for some sort of final quest, with all the unanswered questions left in the RS lore and many possible connections between storylines. So I hope the Ritual quest will either be hugish and inhumanly long, or spawn a sequel storyline, as suggested in previous posts.

I haven't even started the first quest from the Mysteries of the Mahjarrat series yet, however I hope the ritual grandmaster quest planned is not the final quest in the series and imo the Mahjarrat are the most interesting part of rs lore.

You are able to see globes around RS, the globes display lands unlike ours but somehow are slightly similar.

The world of Rs is flat, like any other game out there but perhaps they'll make it round like a real globe.

If so, that would mean there's still loads of space for new content.

But that's a bit far fetched i must admit.

Perhaps they will release a new world one day, one that starts out small just to get us excited and satisfied.

I'm not really in to the lore of RS but aren't dragonkins from another plane? Or some other race was...

Maybe once we get that far we could see a new world.

That would be the way to end the game. You sail off to the Eastern Lands and fall off the edge of the map and die forever. Game over. :)

They come probably from Freneskae, like the Mahjarrat. Dragon items were created by the Dragonkin, and dragon items come from Freneskae.

Yes, but we don't know if they came by choice. They must pre-date everything else since Jas enslaved them at some point,l and since he was around before everything else has existed, then they pre-date everything that currently exists as well.

One thing's for sure, we won't get any more information on Jas and Freneskae unless the Ritual quest's going to turn into one long history lesson. I'm trying to compare what we've seen and learned about Bandos and the history of goblins in the Dorgeshuun series, to set my level of expectation for the Majharrat and dragonkin's.

Mahjarrat and Dragonkin are more awesome tbh.

Honesttly, I don't know how epic the quest would be. Gielinor is so squeezy and disporportional in land mass that many supposed epic quest scenes and textual description of major events seems to be scaled down when you saw the actual thing. If Jagex releases a book written based on the Dorgeshuun series and flesh up the dialogue and lore about the twelve goblins tribes, Yu'biusk and Bandos, it'll probably be nice to read. But the quests themselves just weren't epic enough for me.

The most memorable scene I can remember would be the door that you unlocked to get to the location of the tormented demons and Stone of Jas during WGS, because that's the first time I see a gate/door that isn't te height of our avatar.

That was one of the most thought out and well said posts I've seen on these forums. Was a very good read as well.

I agree with you and the points you've made. :)

I do agree that the first two quests were done poorly, but I stand by the time traveling idea being a good one.

Also, could you imagine the cut scene that they could make for the downfall of Zaros? Should they put ample effort into it mind you.

Oh Guthix, I'm dieing to see that. :P

You make an interesting point, one that I've thought about quite some time ago. Maybe we could even save Dahmaroc from getting cursed. Or sneak into a Dragonkin castle, or maybe have a chat with a noob from the 3rd age about how bad his armour is and that you will trade him your shiny rune set for his *worthless* armour. :P

3A has better defense stats then rune.

We still know next to nothing about Armadyl and i would hope one day to have quest lines for him besides the staff. I hope one day a quest line will bring him/her/ it?? back since not all the avanasies were destroyed.

We have no clue why Jas even left gilenor in the first place or what he intended to do with the world.

And Jas was only one of the elder gods. We don't even know if there were any more.

And of course there's still tons of lore that needs to be addded about the desert pantheon, seren and even marambo? the monkey god.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

The question isn't how much lore there is left unanswered, but how fast Jagex can answer them, either in the form of text, or quests with epic cutscenes. With approximately 16 quests per year (2010 is slightly below average this year), and the elves, myreque, dwarf, desert quests etc still ongoing, Armadyl and Jas can take a queue number and come back 3-5 years later.

And then there's the quality of existing quests. Needless to say the content team doesn't always think ahead of the plot and plan the quest accordingly, leading to several loopholes and contradicting points here and there. The constant changing of graphics standard also meant that some quests look outdated compared to current ones. Lastly, many quests just aren't that realistic when you try to squeeze so many races into one small continent.

It won't be the end of Runescape, but it will be the end to what many and i think even Jagex consider to be the central storyline of the game.

This is why I think more and more references are being made to the Dragonkin as it's more than likely that they will become the central threat to Gielinor like the Mahjarrat before them.

Jas got divorced from another Elder God and was made to leave his own plane even though he created it with his own two hands. Damn judicial system is totally messed up. Probably has to pay child support for all the Gods currently now on the plane.
