Imperial Russian Expeditionary Force

5,000 Line Infantry - 5 million

4,000 Skirmishers - 4.8 million

Led by General-Count Sergey Vyazmitinov (Winter specialist)

Total Cost: 9.8 million

(This force is in Canada, awaiting the return of the American leader)

Icu, are you interested in trading your infantry commander General for one of my winter specialists? It might be helpful in the Americas, since your troops are based in Canada.

Oh come on, can we please place a blanket ban on steamships and such nonsense? I kind of want to play in the Napoleonic period

In France, by 1774 Marquis Claude de Jouffroy and his colleagues had made a 13-metre (42 ft 8 in) working steamboat with rotating paddles, the Palmipède. The ship sailed on the Doubs River in June and July 1776, apparently the first steamship to sail successfully. In 1783 a new paddle steamer, Pyroscaphe, successfully steamed up the river Saône for fifteen minutes before the engine failed, but bureaucracy thwarted further progress.

Yeah, I also want a blanket ban on muskets and firearms, they make no sense in the Napoleonic period[/sarcasm]

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

If they do come in, they'll be prohibitively expensive since they're so new. As in, 10m for a single one of these temperamental things that have a high chance of having engine failure or exploding for no reason in the middle of a battle.

I didn't really feel like telling arch that it would likely take 70 years before any real progress was made.

Can I build caravels and the like for exploration and other such tomfoolery?

You want more naval vessels?

Budget before:15,700,000

Budget Afterwoods:

Tuzers 500*

Tuzers are a new type of soldier which peforms best in aysmetric warfare, they are cheap light redshirt infantry which can be killed faster than other units but in numbers they are the backbone of any army. They wear green clothing and chainmail which can sometimes help in giving a suprise attack and dual wield flintlock pistols, apart from their clothes the only extra weight they have is ammunition and a tethered metal weapon.

(In a suprise attack they should recieve about 25% more kills than before)

I spend 7,700,000* on them giving me 15,400

Imperial Guard 2000*

The Austro-Hungarian guard is the best in the world at the moment, they can defeat most soldiers at the moment. All wear thick two layered chainmail and wield a range of weapons from axes, swords and guns. All however carry flintlock muskets and ammo.

I spend 4,000,000* on them making 2000

Two Decker 1,000,000*

Explination on front page

I make two with 2,000,000*

These are added to the Emperors Imperial army apart from the ships which are added to the army of vienna.

I keep the 2,000,000

I research flying.

*what currency should I use?

On Nov 21, 1783, in Paris, France, the first untethered manned flight was made by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes in a hot air balloon created on Dec 14, 1782 by the Montgolfier brothers.

Once again the research is semi-plausible.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Yeh thats basically what I meant.

Zepplins and Hot Air Balloons or maybe other methods of flight like gliding or paragliding which can both be used for military advantage.

Are you allowed to research more than one thing without detrimenting the other things success?

Regardless I also put research into faster loading guns.

How about this:

If we want "new" stuff, we put it under 'experimental research. Dusty occasionally will unlock a new technology via that, ie: Steam. Then you can research that directly.

Dusty, that sound ok?

Sigh....Dusty already controls when and what tech we get so the entire arguement is academic.

Also I still want muskets banned, people will abuse them and I won't be able to charge with my calvery and thats all I want to do, and therefore it ruins the game to allow them.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Can this not end in another Dusty vs. Archi fight?

I'd like to think the point of the more recent Hegemonies should be more about strategy, rather than who can find the most obscure medieval/colonial superweapon. Speaking of which, what were your ships in YOH using anyway, arch?

It seems to be that this can be easily solved by a simple rule:

Technologies can be researched by not used before the date of its actual invention. For example, someone could start research on flight for use in the military, but until 18-- when it was actually used, then the research only accumalates. Then when we pass the time when it is actually used/invented, then all the years of research are factored in to see if you get the technology or not.

This would apply to different stages as well. So you might be able to use a prototypical hot air balloon, but it certainly wouldn't help much until several decades later when they become reliable.

^ That doesn't apply at all, but if you want to throw around your ridiculous logic that's okay too.

I don't want someone to use legitimate research because it spoils my strategy?

Rocco, Steam Engines and Hot Air Balloons are both created and usable in the Napoleonic Period, denying access to them is therefore ridiculous.

I'd like to think the point of the more recent Hegemonies should be more about strategy, rather than who can find the most obscure medieval/colonial superweapon.

Sigh...Yes, Hot Air Ballons are a super weapon, their ability to blow up small towns and fire lasers out of their eyes are clear giveaways.

What ruins these games is people freaking out because someone goes 'I develop some tech'.

Steam Engines and Hot Air Ballons are not super weapons, they do not irrevocably change the course of history by being invented.

A super weapon, for the Napleonic Period would be a tank, or a guided missile....You stick one of them on the battlefield/in the air, then the course of history is gonna change pretty quick because both of those things will destroy the enemy.

You stick a hot air balloon with a sniper in(Let alone the exposed position, limited height, chance of weather problems, the range of weapons, troops developing a fear of the new tech or citizens freaking out because of the new tech) and the only change that is likely to happen is 1/50 extra dead generals, and improved targetting for cannonade.

Steam Engines, similarly, are not super weapons...Some sort of Mass Produced Solar Powered Hovercraft would be a superweapon because you could use them anywhere and in any conditions, regardless of terrain and never need refuelling.

A Steam Engine needs a paddle wheel or a screw propeller, or rails, or to be stationary with a long length of rope to pull whatever it is you are moving. It needs to have a coal mine somewhere nearby, with a network of transports to bring the coal from the mine to the ship/train, it needs skilled craftsmen to make it and a hell of a lot of cash to build/train all that.

I really don't get why people have the need to freakout when new technology is discovered, but when someone trains an army of 300,000 people they go 'Hmmm, how interesting.' and move on.

Kinda like freaking out over someone chewing a paperchip while someone else takes a hammer to your computer screen.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

the only reason why people are freaking out is because the stuff can explode on you, and your probs going to be pissed and say why didnt they warn me. or somthing.

Earth, did you send the PM to Dusty?

Also, I just went over to off-topic to post on some topics. They post soooooo slowly compared to the tavern. There are eight active users, but since I started posting thirty minutes ago, not one has posted. Infact, I have around five or six topics with the last active post being mine. <_<

Oh I know that, and I find nothing wrong with it to be honest, but the research would take around 30-40 years, maybe more...

Also he'd have to mine the hell outta coal and get that to work before he got any real success out of it.

I meant the pm with Earth and Retech.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

Oh yeah I also buy two frigates and a two decker ship for 2,160,000, leaving me with 240,000.

No, what me and Archi said was that we would research these technologys, it is at Dustys discretion as to when we get a break through.

As Archi said none of these things are superpowers.

Flight or as most people are discussing: hot air balloons are not very useful in combat due to the fact that a well placed arrow will cause the air to come out resulting in everone inside the hot air balloon dying. Hot air balloons need fuel unlike water and land vehicles which can be peddled or even walked off. The only possible military application I see would be as a scout as dropping bombs off or anything would weigh it down.

Basically, they are incredibly useful for getting to places but are [cabbage] at combat and anything else for that matter.

Steam is a pretty versatile thing and is useful but I don't see how it is overpowered in anyway, people can pedal something so why can't steampower do that for them. Their is no discussion as to whether steam should be allowed in the future, it gives no unfair benefits.
