I returned to RS after taking a year break and I see that phats are 1.5bil+ on the street? Wtf? And can someone tell me how they do this? Also, what's with all the complaining about botters, didn't jagex take care of that already with their stupid, idiotic, and just plain annoying update that took away almost everything fun in RS?

GE updates too slowly for partyhats to reach their true price. So to get a partyhat, you have to buy billions of crashing items (that will lose a lot of value) with the hat.

Santas and masks are buyable in GE.

And no, the irony is Jagex never fixed the botting or RWTing problem. All they fixed was that they no longer lose money from credit card theft.

Make peace not war? :P I feel a lot of hate in this thread.

1. Lazy noobs bot on their mains now, instead of gold farmers botting to sell for irl cash.

2. Partyhats were hoarded by rich people together with other useless rare items like pumpkins and disc's.

Not this hoarding crap again...

You cant seriously believe a normal person would be willing to pay 1.5 billion gp for a bloody hat, do you?

Come on...

When are idiots going to move past this constant "it's just a hat, it's just pixels, it's just a paper crown."

-It's a status symbol

-It's an investment

-There is an insatiable demand for them and a limited, constant supply.

There is no reason NOT to buy a party hat for 1.5B if you have the means. There is no reason not to buy a party hat for ANY amount of cash if you have the means.

Just going to remind you guys to be polite and avoid flaming other users. Just saying, remember to have a sensible discussion on this issue, or the thread will just be locked and people be warned if need be.

As for the topic at hand, bots are an ongoing fight. As long as Jagex don't give up, they haven't lost. I do believe I remember a user here saying that they might win every fight, but they'll never win the war. Which I sort of agree with.

Idiots will move on when it becomes something other then a hat with a big price tag.

If you have the means, i'm not saying not to buy one. By all means do what you want, its your money

Im saying partyhats would crash in price if people wanted them for looks and not for street value.

"IF"

But they do have street, so that argument is moot.

You get 1 billion in junk, which isn't worthless. And yeah I would.

In reguards to this. I mean buying a partyhat for 1.5b coins, not buying it for 400m coins and gaining whatever the street value is.

Obviously if partyhats were not as valuable they would be less valuable..? Not sure what you're trying to say.

No, I seem to have stepped into a thread where street price is considered real value.

I dont see street price as value, I go by the grand exchange price. Be that the "wrong" price is up to each person.

You trade: 1.5b gp

They trade: Partyhat, 1b junk

You now have partyhat and 1b junk. If you sell the junk in GE (arguably the worst way to get rid of bad junk), you will be able to sell it for about 600m. Therefore the partyhat really only costs you about 800m (and the forgone interest on the 1b gp you had tied up in junk).

--

Obviously the GE price is the wrong price, you cannot buy it at that price.

Street value is when the true price is above the GE price. This causes the item to rise. Therefore over time, street price converts to GE price. So street price is real value, but obviously 1m street is not worth as much as 1m gp.

PS you can keep calling the GE price the right price, and you'll never be able to buy partyhats or sell crashing items. Or you could realize that you're wrong and actually get stuff done.

Its fully possible to get very lucky, getting a partyhat through the GE, its just not probable.

You have to be the FIRST offer in.

You can either stay up 24+ hours at a time sitting at the GE, or you can pay a few hundred million extra for a partyhat. I choose the latter, but I guess you would choose the first. I don't think you have that kind of money to work with if you're being this idiotic about it.

I returned to RS after taking a year break and I see that phats are 1.5bil+ on the street? Wtf?

When the changes happened in 2007 all of the old stakers etc dumped their phats into the GE thus they started falling. Everyone else who had one as an investment sold it out of fear. This made them essentially worthless to players. Some very wealthy, smart (yet very selfish) people knew that if they bought discontinued items at that time, they would eventually recover and become valuable again. So while the hats were falling in price, some players were quietly sucking up as many of them as they could. Then they started to recover and the street price went up so the common folks started buying again. Then when the PVP statuettes came out there was massive inflation and in time that money all filtered up and the wealthy got wealthier. Thus, there are more people with MASSIVE cash piles that choose to invest in rares but a good chunk of them are stuck in hoarders banks. Low supply, high demand from players with billions of GP = insane prices.

And can someone tell me how they do this?

Junk. Items that have GE value but no 'street value'. Essentially, they are items that are limited as to how low they can go in the GE (because of price floors or because or corosponding items). Also, there is 'crashing junk' which are items that had a very high value before, but are now worthless and are falling in price in the GE. Most of this is just items that have been manipulated by clans and just been dumped.

Also, what's with all the complaining about botters, didn't jagex take care of that already with their stupid, idiotic, and just plain gay update that took away almost everything fun in RS?

Every time Jagex makes a move to eliminate bots, botters take two steps forward. So, as hard as Jagex tries they will never get rid of botters. But the 2007 updates did help lower the RWT impact in-game (it's coming back though) as well as in real life with things like Credit card fraud.

Also, how did the update take away anything fun? The only things that suffered were staking for cash, PKing (BH came out with the removal of PKing which was exactly the same but a smaller space, and with recent changes, it's better then it was before), and free trade. So unless your only idea of fun is killing players or item scamming, then nothing else changed (much).

Thank you. You rock for giving such a great response.

But my idea of fun was pking, staking mils, and luring with the champs. I know I'll get flammed for saying this, but they were the glory days of RS. I loved pking the green dragon botters and I also loved luring the poor, gullible noob. It was great.

Your right, I dont have that money to work with this anymore.

I chose to improve my skills instead of my bank and appearance, thats why I sold my partyhat.

If you want to continue you can pm me, but it seems like the topic questions have been answered.

Yeah I personally never saw a point in investing in rares, except for flipping it maybe if you can. I usually put my money into skilling and useful items.

I agree, what's the point of making tens or hundreds of millions while logged out.

I said that Mr. Sarcastic. Flipping it is the only reason.
