You can either stay up 24+ hours at a time sitting at the GE, or you can pay a few hundred million extra for a partyhat. I choose the latter, but I guess you would choose the first. I don't think you have that kind of money to work with if you're being this idiotic about it.

Your right, I dont have that money to work with this anymore.

I chose to improve my skills instead of my bank and appearance, thats why I sold my partyhat.

If you want to continue you can pm me, but it seems like the topic questions have been answered.

Yeah I personally never saw a point in investing in rares, except for flipping it maybe if you can. I usually put my money into skilling and useful items.

I agree, what's the point of making tens or hundreds of millions while logged out.

Whats the point of play rs? Enjoyment. Some people enjoy improving bank, others stats, others have fun just messing around in CW or Duel arena, or a lot of other things. Thats part of the beauty of RS, there is no right or wrong reason to play (outside of extreme addiction)

When are idiots going to move past this constant "it's just a hat, it's just pixels, it's just a paper crown."

-It's a status symbol

-It's an investment

-There is an insatiable demand for them and a limited, constant supply.

There is no reason NOT to buy a party hat for 1.5B if you have the means. There is no reason not to buy a party hat for ANY amount of cash if you have the means.

Idiots will move on when it becomes something other then a hat with a big price tag.

If you have the means, i'm not saying not to buy one. By all means do what you want, its your money

Im saying partyhats would crash in price if people wanted them for looks and not for street value.

Er, you basically said that they would crash if the demand went down...

Which leads me to state a basic economic principle. Supply and Demand. Which have an inverse relation with one another. (One goes down, the other goes up)

Party Hats exist in a limited number in the game, and therefore have a very low Supply. Which causes the demand to skyrocket. Simple as that. And it will stay like that because there will NEVER be any more supply. (Please don't knitpick about people with p hats who have quit returning, or banned accounts with party hats being unbanned.)

Also, another thing about supply and demand - a good quote I heard from civilization. "An item is worth whatever the buyer will pay for it." If that means an item is 1.5bil because that's what people are willing to pay for it, then it's 1.5bil.

You get 1 billion in junk, which isn't worthless. And yeah I would.

In reguards to this. I mean buying a partyhat for 1.5b coins, not buying it for 400m coins and gaining whatever the street value is.

Obviously if partyhats were not as valuable they would be less valuable..? Not sure what you're trying to say.

No, I seem to have stepped into a thread where street price is considered real value.

I dont see street price as value, I go by the grand exchange price. Be that the "wrong" price is up to each person.

Ha. Ha. Ha. The Grand Exchange price is WRONG for party hats. How do I know this? Don't know it personally, but if you can't get an item on the GE for max price over a period of a couple days, the price is wrong. The GE is a wonderfull tool, but it simply cannot cope the market and or prices of items that exist in very limited amounts and are very rarely traded. If the GE gets fixed for this, p hats on the GE will cost over 1bil.

Obviously the GE price is the wrong price, you cannot buy it at that price.

Its fully possible to get very lucky, getting a partyhat through the GE, its just not probable.

You could, but that's just way too unrealistic. A maxed player would presumably have better luck solo'ing corp for sigils rather then attempt to snipe one off the GE,

Also, if I ever HAD the money to waste on p-hats, I would. I really would. But chances are I'd have to end up with max stats, all the highend armor, godswords, spirit shields, before I'd feel justified wasting money on them :P

Although, someday I'd like a h'ween mask. Still got a lot of things to get before I could justify the money for one...

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

That's pretty much my outtake on things, the whole idea with more money is to fund them into skill to hit lvl 99 all. I seen some friends merchant their way to phat and mask sets, but now they don't play much anymore, kind of defeat the purpose of rares in the first place since they originally want to use it on prayer or something (it does look good).

Off-topic, but there's one thing I really hate. In order for me to sell a party hat, I have to either:

1.) Garner billions of coins worth of junk.

2.) Trade a party hat for some other rares + cash, and then convert try to convert those rares into cash or junk.

3.) Sell on the GE.

As far as I'm concerned, none of those are terribly feasible, as I don't want junk or to sell for a price that is nothing short of a steal for the one buying. I want to sell for cash. Since Jagex has the ability to fix prices on the GE, why won't they just set party hats' GE value to their street value? How hard is that? Honestly?

You've hit the nail on the head. If the GE started to accept the street value of an item, no matter how exorbitant Jagex considers it, then the problem will be solved.

Maybe the most effective solution would be for Jagex to release a stackable but useless 'Junk' item, which can be obtained for free in vast quantities but has a GE value of 100gp each. Once they've flooded the market, track every player-to-player trade that uses them, and adjust the GE prices until the Junk is minimised. Once Jagex is confident that they can't reduce the Junk any more, remove all of it from the game.

Yea, but then jagex gets scared of the RWT ghost.

That would make the GE completely obsolete, not?

You people do know in which hands the vast majority of phats/crackers/half wines/divines/elysians are at the moment, right?

Merch (manipulation) clan owners and friends, who else has rising items to buy them and later on has billions of crashing items to sell these phats with?

The problem in my opinion is the GE, it can be abused too easily by frauds who create monopolies. Via this monopoly, a lot of cash is generated for those who are in control and a lot of junk by those who are being scammed.

Take a look in the rares section on RSOF, people selling phats are the people stuck with manipulated items, the worst crashing, useless junk imagineable. How did they get this in the first place one should ask.

If GE mechanics would be modified to take away the possibility of making monopolies with sufficient cash, this would be one step closer to a solution. Monopolies are forbidden in the real world, why not in RS?

If you think my point is invalid, could you think of any circumstance a normal player (be it skiller or a monster hunter) gathers billions upon billions of junk?

If you have enough money to own a phat, I'm sure that you would also still have enough money to work on your skills. Owning a phat doesn't mean that you can't improve your skills.

Keyword is have. I did have enough before i trained herblore, prayer, construction, crafting, smithing, farming and summoning.

Hoarding is blown out of proportion with partyhats. Yes they were hoarded at year ago at very low prices, but since then they've slowly dispersed out into the market and we have pretty much reached a critical point of stagnation due to a lack of compressed currency (disks and pumpkins do not compress anymore and are basically junk). If you have one, but not the means to sell or upgrade for its proper value, then you're basically stuck with it. Not that this is a big deal considering making money in this game has become extremely easy.

There's not a chance I'd sell mine in the event of a crash. Seeing at just how hard and unobtainable they can become - there is no way in hell I am ever risking have to deal with that ever again.
