  1. CAPTCHA is circumventable. I'm more inclined to say bring back the old 'aggressive' randoms - river troll, tree ent, drunk dwarf etc. With the item kept on death finally being fixed after all these years (ie you no longer lose a partyhat over your rune armor), I'd say bring them back, why not.
  2. :wall: Yeah... wrong thread.
  3. Well, at least we know they are doing well financially.
  4. My main problem with RSC is not the difficulty (It actually made skilling feel very accomplished) but the tiny screen size. It was fine back in 2001-2003 when half of us still used those bulky CRT monitors, which which were able switch to 800x600 or 1024x768 to have a sizable view, but these days with 1080p LCD screens, it just doesn't work. It's way too small on my 23'' widescreen monitor. (And don't say you can switch you resolution because anything outside of your LCD's non-native resolution just looks bad)
  5. How skills felt so accomplished and rewarding back then... I really wish this final reopening wasn't the official death of it. Sure there are 500 players on it right now, but in a few months that will most likely dwindle down to the teens again. I personally don't care for the classic cape. It's not like it meant you were around in during RS1 anyway.
  6. I've heard of this type of hacking. Basically there is a group of hackers that only target inactive accounts. Over months they will attempt to gain as much personal information about the account as they can. They may even attempt to hack your email account if they know it (to see if you have emails from Jagex that contain your past transactions - so delete those if you have not and store them somewhere on your computer/usb/external etc). They'll attempt to recover many times though fail, but at some point they will finally have a successful attempt. Now as to why they only do this to inactive accounts? Because of bank pins. An active player will come to the realization their account has been compromised within a day or two after it actually happens. They'll re-recover the account, and cancel the bank pin cancellation request. From that point it's useless for the hacker to keep trying because all it will result in is an account lock, and the account will go back to the rightful owner anyway. They go after players they know are loaded, or suspect to be loaded. They'll take your items, and sell them in the black market. To them a successful hack could be worth thousands, if not over $100,000 (as in the case of Chessy018). I find it extremely stupid that Jagex does not notify you of a recovery attempt via in-game or maybe even via email/text (for inactive players). At least in that case you could completely prevent a successful hacking (and stealing of items) if the hacker actually manages to get on your account.
  7. I think F2P should be given the King Black Dragon (with a revised F2P drop table). But that's about it.
  8. Yes. Up to now they have been a... one hit wonder.
  9. Oh great. Now bot armies will be getting an extra 10% experience on top of everyone else at no additional cost (since they were going to be paid for anyway).
  10. Agility. It's probably my favorite non-buyable skill. Then con - my least favorite buyable.
  11. While true, it's something Jagex has to do unfortunately. Otherwise the new player will be way too overwhelmed. You can't expect the new players to have to spend 5+ years just to catch up to everyone else.
  12. Technically if you RWT you are supposed to report the "income" to the IRS... (not than any RWTers do)
  13. Why do they have to play catchup? What about the players joining today that are potentially almost 10 years behind some players. I think they're all mostly botting.
  14. Some of you need to accept that your time spent on this game is completely meaningless. If Jagex is going to ever going to release RS3 and expect it to be successful, they can't expect new players to have to play catchup against the multi-year vets especially when the game has already been around for this long. If the idea of a new game and new sense of adventure (I'd say I had the most fun on RS when I was a complete noob) don't outweigh the false happiness caused by a dopamine release in your brain every time you get that level, you should spend less time on the game. Though as someone else has mentioned, RS3 will probably be much like RS1 to RS2 if that ever happens. I'd prefer to start from the beginning... you know when skills were actually useful. But that's just me. I've already come to terms with the X time I've spent on this game -> meaningless.
  15. I think they should, but not until a month before a confirmed RS3 where everyone has to start fresh.
  16. Are you seriously trying to compare something like, "not liking RuneScape" to, "not liking school or work?" Because yes, if you don't like RuneScape, then YES, YOU QUIT. Why? Because it's a completely meaningless game. And not IRL.
  17. I'm going to go with maybe, because who knows to be honest. I played from 2003-2005 and didn't see myself ever playing again. I came back four years later and started up again, 2009-2011. When you take a really long break such as I did, the game feels very different when you get back. So 2016... maybe? I sure as hell won't be playing for 5 years straight though. If I do play 5 years from now, it'll be because I took another very long break sometime in between now and then.
  18. I voted yes, but like others I realized that was the only possible outcome. I knew what was coming. And I truly believe that was the beginning of the end. There was a lot of crap in the GE era with item manipulation, but two lines of basic code could have fixed that. Staking? You could have earned the right to stake through a good account reputation. Again, there were problems in the GE era, but had they at least tried to fix them, it would have kept the garbage at bay. Now every world I log in to the GE I see scammers trying to double money, trust game, dice, flower, and etc (or the 50 spam bots in every f2p world). I don't care that it's easy to avoid, but it makes RS look really bad. Like... really bad. I can't see how anyone new over the age of 12 would want to start playing RS now. (And if they do they'll probably just starting botting) And for those talking about PK bots, stop being ridiculous. Modern games with real-time action don't even have the AI yet to constantly defeat a human unless the AI has advantage. In fact, modern AI still kind of sucks. Botting PvE doesn't exactly require good AI. I remember auto-catchers from back in RS1... so there are likely bots that aid a player, but there are no full-fledged do it for you bots.
  19. Here's to hoping Jagex is working a new game (RuneScape 3).
  20. So China figured out how to profit off their prison system? Well in that case at least their citizens probably don't have to pay taxes for it. Is the USA taking notes yet? And as far as human rights go... don't you give (most of) those up when you land yourself in prison?
  21. RIFT is now offering a 7-day free trial for those who would like to try the game out. Link to Trial (Personal referral, you get a few bonus goodies for using one) So if you've been interested, go ahead and try it out! :)
  22. Isn't life about throwing away your life (a job) to access content you enjoy? No, life is about finding your purpose to a seemingly purposeless existence. And people who get jobs in engineering, comp-sci, law, medicine, and etc aren't the ones who break down at the age of 40 (mid-life crisis) wondering what the hell they did with their time, or why they are completely alone. Now if your career peak (mostly due to laziness) is working at Target full-time, then yes I'd agree there.
  23. Staking is no different than gambling. It's basically gambling real money for the traders out there. And as far as getting stats... what time? The 30 seconds it probably takes a bot user to load up their client and click run? If you're "bot farming" there is what we could call an initial investment. That is, the time required to set everything up plus the money required to buy more computer hardware and/or rent virtual space to run bots on. Once you're up on running the goal is have it all pay back the initial investment for you, and then anything after that is pure profit. I have no idea how easy or difficult this is to do, but I'd wager this is pretty easy compared to what it used to be considering Jagex just doesn't seem to care anymore.
