bloodkilla87
What do you think? I think that they are. Brunett just signed with the Blue Jays for 5 years, 55 million. Thats 11 million a year, almost a million dollars a month, 250k a week. Thats more then enough to live on. And what about A-Rod? He didnt do his whole time, but he was offered 250 million for 10 years! Thats 25 million a year.
slicer92
All Athletes are overpaid, yet they complain like girls.Football players for example barely work half a year, get paid 5mil a year, then holdout for more money. Some who are even paid more then that start to complain when they barely win, however if they took a paycut they could bring in another player and win more games. All athlethes are overpaid, should be paid max 8mil a year and minimal 500k a year,my opinion
Bubsa
Every professional athlete, football player, basketball player or whatever are overpaid. It's ridiculous the amount of money they get. However, that money has been made available to them largely out of advertising and TV. When debating whether player X is worth ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100,000 has to be taken into consideration. In that particular market, they might be, but in terms of real life, no one is. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
RazorFlowers
Well they should get well paid considering that most of the careers ends before 35. 25 mill a year might be alittle over the top though.

Nunquam
Agreed. Just look at Terrell Owens. $7.5 million a year wasn't good enough for him so he wanted a new contract. I think I'd be perfectly fine with $7.5m.
Phil
I've not really looked into other sports but in football I think there should be a wage cap at something like 30k a week.
bjbj1991
some people that are stars on TV shows are paid over a million an episode. i think Frasier tops it at around 7 mill a show. my question is what do they do with that money because i found that most people don't even make that much in their whole life! also another problem with those guys being paid huge sums of money is that it may encourage kids to forget about education and want to be a proathlete. My Mum would be rich compared to them if that happened. :P Football players = Overrated. Rugby Players = Underrated. Football players barely get hurt... Yet completely make a fool of themselves trying to fake their injury. But then again... We have rugby players... These people are super... They get kicked in the face, punched, broken fingers, ankles.. The lot. Yet, they decide to carry on playing without as much as an "Ouch." -Mitch- New sig to come! That's because he is the whole show. If it wasn't for him the tv company probably wouldn't be raking in over 7 mil a show. If I was him I would want a lot of whatever the tv company made from my show.
bloodkilla87
How do shows even make money? And like someone else said (atleast i think someone else said this) football players only play once a week, and sometimes, they get two weeks off. Hockey players, basketball, and especially baseball players play back to back games sometimes, sometimes even without any days off. Im not sure about rugby or soccer, because i dont get those sports on t.v.

Faux
How do shows even make money? Ads, Ads, Aids! Advertising agencies pay Channels/Broadcasting companies to show their adverts and these Broadcasting Companies in turn pay for shows. Back to back? Oh snap, that's TWO workhours in two days? Another snap, their consecutive days? :o :o :o They're overpaid. But maybe that's what makes them different, they don't care as much about the money and are passionate about their sport. I don't think all footballers deserve the bad press, just 99% of them. logic-is-overrated
Athletes are paid as much as they are because of the tremendous amount of people that watch sports. The public glorifies atheletes, the public makes them heroes, and the public is the reason why they are able to make so much money. Yes I think their overpaid but the only people to blame for their bloated salaries is the people who watch the sports. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.
Pyro
As a liberal I fail to see any need to be jealous of the amount of money earned by professional athletes. Hence I fail to see any way to define "overpaid" and because of this I do not mind in any way whether they are paid several millions or not. If they do, good for them. If they don't, too bad. Putting limits on income based on some strange idea on what is and what is not fair is lunacy.
vladmoney
Ok def not overpaid at all. Consider how many people in the whole US, even the whole world, that can do his job? About a dozen, now consider how many people can do a doctors job? Alot. Unlike sports, most regular jobs can be learned. Sports takes something unique and special that u must be born with (plus practice too). You can practice all you won't but u probably would never be as good as Arod cause he was born with great althletics. Plus consider the high risk of injury. I mean baseball players can get their first game of season and can never play again. That can be tough, so they need a lot of money as securty as well. Overall i think they deserve the money they get. Its the same reason a doctor get paid more then a castodian because less people have the brain to become a doctor. Supply and demand my friend. WutangFlu
way to much, that money could be used for better things charity/cancer/studies ect... they (the players) could atleast donate some (im sure SOME do) dont forget the endorsements (nike, adidas, rebok, ect) thats why i support by my opinion (true atheletes) skaters, and bikers.. and most of the olympic sports.. they dont get paid anymore then a typical person, unless they go pro or something. You are right, to an extent. Yes, athletes do need some type of job security, but paying them millions isn't the way to solve that. As for your comment on athletes requiring a certain breed that so limited, I disagree. Look at how many athletes participate in college sports? Not all of them are cut out for the pros, but there's a lot of people who could survive in the professional leagues. My big problem with overpaid athletes? What's their contribution to society? Exactly. They are entertainers who are overpaid along with actors. Teachers, doctors, etc. actually contribute something to society. Paying athletes less would not rid the world of sports. We might lose some players, but those are the egotistical ones no one wants anyways.
Escape5
It is so stupid when atheletes demand more money. You cant friggen live on 5 million dollars? For frigs sakes people, thats more then some people make in a lifetime of working, and you just work from age 20-40. It is really lame. And the bonus is that they dont even work the whole year. On the other hand, they have to use it all before they get slapped with super high taxes. So they usually have money to give to a special charity. And then theres another aspect. Fans pay a lot of money to watch sports. What would one GM or owner do with all that?? They actually HAVE to pay their players that much. But still, asking for more is very very wrong :(
Adam007
My question is: Would all of these professional atheletes still play if their income was severely cut? I think so. But the thing is the stadium owners can afford to pay a ton to players, so they do. Those players often make even more money by doing endorsements and comercials anyways. The one job that seems like it would be great though would be to be a the kicker. A "professional football kicker." Go out onto the field a few times per game, kick a ball, and reel in millions. :P
