Godslayer, I can believe that dog is pixel work, but that head I have a really hard time believing. That is very intense, it looks so smooth it must take forever to achieve that with pixels.

Nope it's real pixel...checked it on zoom and it's just some pretty awesome shading..

I also resent the people saying that "grunge sigs are easy" or "abstract sigs can be make in 5 mins". Because you are only referring to the crappy standard that most people post here. Just like the pixel sigs there are varying qualities of artists here both in the pixel medium and brushwork and manipulation.

The signature I have right now took hours... and its nowhere near the quality of some of my best work regarding full photo manipulation. I happen to think that its a really good signature.

Theres a big difference between this... which took hours

And this which took 15 mins

Just like theres a big difference between RandomNoob5643 whos only "pixelling" for money, and MXM/Godslayer/Terley.

No medium is easier or harder than the others so please dont go round saying "all abstract sigs are crap" just because the quality of abstract sigs here isnt that great. It certainly doesn't mean the medium is easy. Go take a look on DevArt and tell me that some of the work posted there is a 5minute job

All that aside however... maybe its time for pixel work to get its own sub section? I dont particularly enjoy seeing the same old rubbish posted day in day out with quality non pixel stuff getting ignored.

Yeah it seems that pixel sigs have become far too common and all the standard ideas have been used. All of them are the same: White, male with brown hair at the axe hut in full dragon and blue party hat with a whip killing a person as they are laying on the ground.

Pixel art? Common, whats going on here. when did this whole forum take a change to pixel art. how did I happen, and does it take real artistic skills to make a picture in paint. Anyone else notice that this proclaimed "Pixel art" Has taken over the media forum? In my opinion it is for the worst too.

Discuss! its a real topic, not a "Rate my sig" Its ment to be discussed. I'm not trying to flame either.

yes it takes artistic ability. that might be the stupidest question i've heard in a long time.

It takes artistic ability to make a "good" pixel sig. But i dont think i'm alone here in thinking that 90% of the pixels sigs arn't good

Well... I started out pixelling purely for money, and actually made a fair bit... People liked my style, and in return I like their money. The I was hacked several times... and I lost my will to play runescape :\ But meh, I somehow got myself back into pixelling.... This time not for money though, I was creating sigs for the people I'd met throughout my time on Runescape :) It's so much more fun with no material reward at the end of it in my opinion...

Not really sure what the hell this has to do with anything, but the past few posts seem related...

There are many good pixel artists on this forum and while personally I am not a big pixel person myself I enjoy looking at their creations. Then of course there are the individuals that are starting out and their creations are a bit more painful to look at  however I firmly believe that they should be encouraged as we never know they could be the next top pixel artist in the future.

As for too much pixel and not enough other forms of art...well whats stopping ya from posting? If you do not like whats out there do something about it. Post some of your creations be it abstract, photography etc and ya never know people may pick up on it and the forum could turn. But as long as you just sit there and talk about it, it will stay just the way it is because people are happy doing pixels.

Not everybody has got the skill to make something. So some of us can't do much more than talk about it in hope for it to change.

This is supposed to be a fun community... there is no requirement to be a pro graphics artist... just have fun... play with things on your computer... practice makes perfect and you never know with a little work you may discover some hidden talents

My point was that people have now given up on posting anyhting other than pixel work. People who post original photography or art work are usually just ignored or given negative comments. In my last piece of work i posted here someone actually commented saying he didnt like it because it wasnt pixel lol.

This is incredibly off putting. Perhaps if people were a bit more understanding of the effort that goes into all forms of digital media then we could all post in harmony. I still think the best solution would be to put pixel work in its own section away from everything else. Not only would it keep the pixel artists happy but will also encourage more posting by people put off in ther past due to negative comments by pixel "artists"

No, you don't need to be a pro graphic artist. But it takes a little bit more than fun to change the scene on a board like this. Everybody noticeses troughout life weither they have a talent for drawing or not. With regular drawing classes at school you will see if it goes easy and you make something really great, or it takes you a little bit more effort and make something great, or you try your best, and you can't make anything. It's not something everybody can do, and since this is media discussion I don't see why people who don't have the drawing talent or w/e can't take it on verbally with the artists.

My main gripe about pixel art on this board is that the subject matter hardly ever changes. Sure, it keeps up with new equipment trends in-game, and that is understandable because this is a gaming forum, but it's all very bland and dull. Almost everyone copies the same look that they see in the game, and there's very little actual creativity involved in the art, to say nothing about technique or lack thereof.

And I agree that too many people start creating pixel art with money as their only motivation. Art for art's sake, I say. You'll never actually improve if you only make cookie-cutter art for absurd sums of digital money.

TBH, I don't post any of my sketches in here because the last time it did it was simply ignored.

That and by TIF's rules I can't post them anyways, too "graphic"
