Rapier or longsword?

dk what one I should get.. I was sure about the rapier, but it seems like alot to spend (as in the 2mil repairing every 10 hours) on what seems to be a slightly overpowered whip, and I was always against the cls because it seems so in-accurate but idk...

 

I'd be doing alot of Safe PvP, some occasional slayer, bandos gwd (and maybe some other bosses, not sure yet), and I'd be using it to kill frost dragons when I reach 85 dung.

 

Currently, I don't have overloads or turmoil, but I am 99 str and attack.. and I want to use the weapon for frosts so I can build up enough cash to buy turmoil and overloads.

 

What one would you pick if you were me?

Rapier is better for everything on your list besides bandos.

A good rule of thumb to follow is to get the rapier if you do a variety of things.

Most of what I've seen indicates that Rapier is better, except for a couple areas like Bandos. There's a HUGE thread on this in the general discussion

It's also worth mentioning that a rapier+maul pretty much outperforms a CLS in every conceivable situation.

 

Unless it's your calling in life to tank zil with a divine, or something.

Wow, I'm literally in the EXACT same boat as you... lol.

Anyways, the chaotic weapons really last over 15-20 hours of combat, because you're not fighting something 100% of the time during the 10 hours.

Also, the CLS is very accurate, not in-accurate. Rapier is definitely better for frosts. It's debatable weather or not CLS or CR is better for bandos, I've heard both sides, and since CR > CLS everywhere else... Even if the CLS is better than CR at bandos, It's still better than anything we've had before, and better everywhere else.

Take it as you may I don't have either but I have read probably 1000x of these threads and everyone is the same. Rapier if your looking to do a mix of things like you are saying. I mean you just said it yourself your do bandos and other bosses sometimes, but focusing on slayer and frosts rapier wins, among other things. If I was you I wouldn't be to worried about it, get a rapier so you can replace that whip you've been using since well forever and call it a day and reap the benefits of a well rounded weapon thats better than the whip everywhere and has good stab bonuses (finally!)

My rapier is only at like 84% after a few hours at frosts, some slayer, and other killing. So ye, it lasts for longer then 10 hours by far.

Well in theory you don't HAVE to, you can use those earned tokens on ring classes or something. :ugeek: But it certainly is useful.

Rapier. Honestly, if you are solo'ing bandos effectively, you should atleast have maxed melee and extremes/ovl. I'd take increased DPS on CR over slightly more accurate hits on CLS any day. PLus, you really don't eat/brew so much at Bandos anyways so you don't miss out on hits with a faster weapon.

For frost dragons you'd likely be better off ranging as you don't have ss/turm/ovl, assuming you are 97+ range ofcource and plan on using yak.

no particular reason, but lower than 97 would be a waste of money being maxed melee as melee is already 5-15% better to begin with.
