stirling105
I think making gold bars with gauntlets are cheaper and steel plates are faster but is it a huge difference per hour? Is it more than 100k difference per hour or just like 20k? I would be using a clay hammer if i am smithing steel plates. Which would you recommend for yourself? Edit: i'm going from 68 smithing to 89, so it is sorta long term

Yes If i was superheating while smelting gold bars would i have to click the furnace again and again? Superheating doesn't involve using a furnace. stirling105
But then wouldn't just putting gold ores in a furnace be faster then waiting for gold to appear in your inventory?
Quyneax
You can superheat while smelting at a furnace. You won't have to reclick the furnace provided you leave some time between superheats (let the animation finish). You can also superheat while mining a concentrated gold rock. For this you don't have to reclick the rock (afaik) if, again, you wait for the animation to finish. The first is good smithing xp, the second is good mining and smithing xp, both offer decent collateral magic xp gains. Troacctid
Also, may as well use the Explorer's Ring 4's free superheats too now that they streamlined the interface for it. Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP

Vex
Smelting at furnace - 70k - 3gp/xp - Least effort (especially with new make all interface)Superheating - 100k (+95k Magic xp)- 6gp/xp - Moderate effort (Can arrange your spellbook for superheat to be near the bottom and you click the one spot for most of inv)Superheating while Smelting - 130k (+65k Magic xp)- 5gp/xp - Most effort (Superheat ores between bank and furnace, click smelt all, then superheat them while smelting(if you do not click to fast it doesn't interrupt the smelting) At 88 you can make adamant plates which are around, 250k xp an hour but 18gp/xp. If you enjoy stealing creation you can cut that number in half, each sc hammer lasts for 65k xp or so. Those are basically the only viable cost effective smithing methods, if you do not wish to LRC superheat. http://www.[Caution! Vex
If you have the cash to invest in the bars up front, otherwise a lot of going backwards and forwards to the GE. If you do have the cash, take a look at Rune legs & Rune 2handers, they are sub 10 gp/xp WITH scroll of efficiency (makes a big difference on rune up to 4gp/xp per item) http://www.[Caution!
