What equipment should I save for?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought Fury, so I wonder what piece of equipment to save for next. Are there any other items that are the best for their slot and will be unlikely to fall in price?

Here is my current setup:

Head: Helm of Netzivot, or Sara Coif

Amulet: Fury

Body: Rune Plate, or Black D'hide

Legs: Dragon, or Black D'hide

Boots: Dragon, or Snakeskin

Weapon: Whip, or Steel Knives / Zanik's C'bow with Bone Bolts

Shield: Rune Defender, or Rune Kite

Ring: Lumbridge 4, or Wealth, or Life

Also, is there any cheap (under 1 million) equipment that I should use instead of my current.

you should really be using rune cbow + broad bolts.

Don't overestimate the cost of ammo. Especially if you have an accumulator.

Don't count out barrows gear either. It's been out for years now. And it's reached its equilibrium price. If anything, barrows should rise with inflation now.

verac skirt is definitely the best option for legs if you don't feel like taking the risk of bandos tassets falling in price (which is a pretty small risk)

if you're not gonna get a bandos chestplate, go with proselyte platebody with piety/turmoil.

rune defender all the way for the shield.

likewise fremennik rings have been out for ages. they won't really fluctuate in price, unless jagex releases something new that's better.

Which, doesn't seem like it's happening anytime soon.

(same can be said about bandos chestplate, but i'd feel more confident about no new rings coming out than a new armor)

Here is my current setup:

Head: Helm of Netzivot, or Sara Coif Make sure you have a Full slayer helm for slaying purposes.

Amulet: Fury

Body: Rune Plate, or Black D'hide Why still bother with rune? Almost anything is better than that. Go for a dharoks or torags platebody.

Legs: Dragon, or Black D'hide Same as above- dragon armor's stats are not very good. Verac's skirt is your best choice here.

Boots: Dragon, or Snakeskin

Weapon: Whip, or Steel Knives / Zanik's C'bow with Bone Bolts Rune c'bow+broad bolts is the best range weapon for general use.

Shield: Rune Defender, or Rune Kite You really don't need the rune kite, just use defender all the time.

Ring: Lumbridge 4, or Wealth, or Life Warrior/berserker ring, depending on your budget. Wealth is mostly useless, the only thing it really does is makes you have less 'nothing' drops.

Also, is there any cheap (under 1 million) equipment that I should use instead of my current.

+1 to Grimy's and Norriie's posts

On top of that:

A granite/obby shield would be good for anything that requires lots of ranged defence, like aviansies.

Consider getting 100 ranks in MA so you can enchant diamond rings. It's basically a warrior, seers, and archer's ring rolled into 1 (minus defence bonuses), and can help with crush/stab options as well. It will take around 10 hours to get though, but diamond rings are dirt cheap to replace and the reward credits are easy to get.

Get Veracs or Torags plate/skirt.

The difference it made for me is incredible

Thank you for the advice.

Sounds like Barrows armor in the short run and Bandos in the long run, with Fremenik and/or MA rings as budget permits.

What about Unholy Book?

Also, is SoL a good investment for Barrows, and any other time I need to use combat magic?

I think an SoL is a good investment for barrows. I use it every time and the "junk" chests have turned into ammo chests so it's pretty handy, plus the look is nice. But if I were you, I would look into one. :)

First barrows, then zerker ring, then Bandos. Stick with rune defender for almost everything, but if you really need to be tanking stuff an obby shield or blessed spirit shield are good cheap options. But seriously, if you're not tanking a boss you should be using defender.

Don't underestimate the zerker ring. It's only a ring, but it's +4 str for like 5m vs. +4 str for like 20m that Bandos plate gives, plus Bandos has lower defense stats than a barrows plate. Zerker is absolutely higher priority than Bandos, end of story.

As others have said, ranging with Zanik's crossbow is a poor decision. Rune crossbow, broad bolts.

Thanks.

I guess I replace the crossbow, but what about the steel knives? (They seem to work well on low defense enemies, and I usually make a few hundred of them doing Blast Furnace.)

Rune darts are what you should be doing on low def monsters. Addy darts if you're looking to be a little more thrifty.

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Rune defender
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and bottom (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (saradomin sword, zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Zamorakian spear (leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

For under 1 million you can:

upgrade your shield to either Dragon Square (303k) or TokTz-ket-xil (247k) or

upgrade your head to torag helm (935k) or

upgrade your body to torag plate (707k) or

upgrade your legs to nothing really (guthan chainskirt is about the same as dlegs and it runs 804k) or

upgade your ring to dragonstone (i) (54k plus some serious work at mobilizing armies)

If I were you I would just get full guthans (4.8mil) and you'll be in business for a long time to come.
