Pest Queen Frustration

Recommended Posts

I've died three times to this thing, once with a full inv of and terrobird of monks, the second time with sharks and now again with all rocktails.

I've looked through a couple of topics and I'm seeing people saying they've killed it with "minimal" food and without knowing even what to do, this makes me very frustrated. I've read the quest guide, I'm coming prepared with supplies and knowledge and I haven't even come close. I can barely get it down to half hp with the constant healing from the drones, all my rangers stay alive but it takes them a long time to kill the drones. My stats aren't terrible: 95 attack, 90 strength, 99 hp, 70 prayer; I don't get it.

Is there something I'm missing?

You don't wait for the archers to kill the drones, kill the drones yourself while making sure to spec the queen when you need to; it's a battle of endurance, where you want to get all the archers out and attacking the queen.

I noticed that when I timed my korasi's specs perfectly (as fast as possible when she was charging) more defilers didn't spawn. I have no idea why. So basically I went through the whole fight with only two defilers ever appearing, which I attacked and stuck behind the queen. After that, the fight was pretty easy. I used almost a full inventory of rocktails, and a bunyip.

2480+ total

It's imperative you use Korasi's spec to stop her from hurting your squad. Also, killing the defilers so they leave your archers intact is important. Kyatt familiars help greatly, as their ambush scroll does good damage.

EDIT: fixed wording

Sorry, confused the drones with the defilers, either way just make sure nothing is killing your archers and after a while they'll be doing enough damage to kill the queen.

Bandos/barrows, pray mage. That's it really. Tank the defilers, spec the queen. Spec recovers may help, just spec twice as often to be sure :P.

Spec when the screen shakes, kill defilers, and camp the queen. That is literally all you have to do. The fight is pathetically easy.

At your level. Somebody with 80ish in all combats has more trouble, especially when not using a guide. But it's nowhere near Nomad, more like the balance elemental, in difficulty, true.

I did it in void. Defilers hit tons on void -.-. Ah well it suited the theme.

Stats matter little because after a while the archers and knights do the boss for you.

Quite so. Probabaly the least pure-friendly boss ever, as high defence is a big asset.

I did it with war tort and brews & spec res and it was still fairly easy, though I did run out of spec near the end lol.

Basically kill the defilers when you see them (or attack them once to get their attention, if you can tank them) and use spec when screen shakes. When not dealing with defilers stand off to the side so queen's attacks don't hurt the soldiers.

First time I tried pest queen not knowing what to do, I ended up using up all of my monks in invo and tortoise, then I asked valluta, he mostly explained what had to be done. You must be doing something wrong, second time I did Pest Queen in about 20 Tuna Potatoes, and don't waste spec, if you don't have spec restores

  • 5 weeks later...

I had to try three times, but eventually got it.

The first two times I had strong magic defense armour and prayed melee, which didn't give me sufficient defense. The third time I used strong melee defense armour and prayed magic, which was better.

I had super defense, strength and attack potions, five prayers and the rest rocktails. I took a tortoise packed with rocktails.

When fighting, as noted here and elsewhere, hit the defilers once each and then camp on the other side of the Queen. That way they won't attack your archer friends and nor will they hit you. Even if you can't get them on the other side of the Queen, don't worry if you have tank armour - they won't hit hard even if they're standing next to you and shooting every second or two.

You must use Korasi's sword and do the special attack every time the Queen starts her ground-shaking superattack. Each time you miss doing this will prolong the fight by thirty seconds or more, and it's already a 5 minute fight anyway. Extra time means more chance of you being hit, more chance of your allies being hit, more food needed, more pots needed, more chance of extra pests doing damage in their various ways.

I used my super set, plus used protect mage curse and berserker to maximise the super set advantage.

On my first two attempts I didn't deal with the defilers properly, and simply didn't have enough defense all up - after five minutes the Queen had suffered almost no damage (had been healed of most damage inflicted, that is) and I was out of food.

The third time showed me how it's supposed to work. If the defilers don't kill your archers they'll slowly but surely take out the healing pests. Once those are gone you have the archers, swordsmen and yourself all hitting the Queen at once for 30 seconds, plus your Korasi special attacks. That's when you do most damage. Then the healing pests respawn and your archers have to take care of them again, so it's only you and the swordsmen for a little while until the healers are once gain dispatched, then you have multilateral damage for another 30 seconds. And so on. Once I got the hang of that pattern I just kept potting and eating and watching out for the ground shaking, when I'd do the special attack, and after a lot of minutes I won.

Getting the food from your BoB can be difficult within the battlefield, but it's easy to retreat back to the giant tortoise thingie (Valluta?) and do it there, then return to the battlefield; you don't miss anything, the Queen doesn't gain huge health. I did so only once, to restock completely. The point to watch is that the defilers might change their position and no longer be where they were when you left, but as noted earlier their attack is pretty weak anyway.

Best drop so far: Dragon Chainbody from a Dust Devil.

My thoughts exactly. Just keep trying. I did this boss at 78 attack 78 strength and 75 defence with 70 prayer. I used torag's plate and verac's skirt etc. I didn't even use my normal inventory of rocktails, let alone the tort I had filled with them. I brought rocktails thinking the fight would be hard and I would have to bank and get super restores and brews but I never found the boss to be of any trouble.
