In the near future, I will be doing more mining in the LRC. I will be banking ore at the deposit box, not for the money, but mainly because I prefer to train mining with only partial attention, and this is not possible using various drop/superheat/etc methods. I will also be using a penance horn, and of course Varrock armour.

Under these conditions, will I receive more experience per hour by bringing Lava Titans, or a Yak filled with Juju Mining potions? Assume that either is equally accessible.

Thanks very much for any data on this :).

Why not both?

That's why. But why not ditch the Yak. And occasionally bank at Fally to restock on juju?

I'm almost positive that you can't put Juju potions in a yak, since they are untradable.

Here's what I do... Three 4-dose mining potions in my inventory and a yak with 18 incomplete urns. Mine for an hour, glory to Edgeville, restock and 30 second run back to the mines, continue mining.

Yeah, I mean who needs a 20k/hr boost to one of the slowest skills?

First of, you can't put juju potions in a Yak. Lava titan speeds up mining by a lot and juju potions make it like 2x more afkable, so I would consider bringing 3 lava titans/9 juju potions (4) and banking every 3 hours.

When you do this method you are also losing out on using mining urns which speeds up mining 20%. If you wanted to use these you would have to bank every hour or so but it's worth it in my opinion. You would want to bring about 20 decorated mining urns, 3 juju potions, and summon your lava titan. The only problem with this is you would have to drop ores every 5 you mine but you get an extra ~15k xp/hr.

Entirely depends on whether you drop or afk.

If you are dropping - invent space taken up by juju's doesnt matter.

if using a yak it means you cba dropping - so taking juju's is good as less banking.

Either way take juju's.

If you are dropping use urns and do 1 hour trips - Bank Cwars - combat brace to monastery and go again once an hour.

I would recommend urns. 20% more xp is just too good to pass up on. Juju makes stuff nicely afkable, a lava titan quite a bit faster. If you take 3 juju, ~10 urns and eee or something, you need to bank a few times more but the xp is still better.

If your goal is AFKability, the clear winner is juju potions.

I'm not sure if really understand dropping though- dropping increases your ability to AFK. The goal is to get the ore out of your inventory as quickly as possible- either way you're clicking to get it out. Running to the bank takes longer than mousekey dropping it all, so running to the bank is less AFK. I strongly suggest mousekey dropping with lava titans and juju potions AND urns- it's actually a lot more AFK than you'd think, and certainly leagues more AFK than trying to bank all the time.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their information on this matter, and report some further findings.

As already stated, you cannot store juju potions in a yak.

I performed two tests, both completed using 6 juju mining potions for a period of 2 hours each. In both cases, I used a dragon pickaxe, a penance horn, and varrock armour, and I banked ores in the deposit box when my inventory filled. For the first test, I summoned a lava titan and brought a spare lava titan pouch; I earned 259,790 mining experience for an average of 130k/hr. For the second test, I brought a yak filled with mining urns, as well as a second yak pouch and the earth runes needed to activate them; I earned 230,395 mining experience for an average of 115k/hr.

Juju mining potions activate frequently and are always worthwhile. If given the choice between a lava titan and a yak filled with urns, the lava titan performs substantially better. It is possible this could reverse at higher mining levels, when the lava titan's boost is less important. I watched TV while mining, but if one is not concerned with semi-AFK play, then obviously using the combination of juju potions, a lava titan, and urns will provide the most benefit. It is important to note that while using a penance horn, since normal mining experience is doubled, percentage-wise urns provide a 10% experience bonus rather than 20%.

I hope this will be of help to others in the future :).

lrn2readnub@@@@ :P

Oh, and I think what may have confused you Green is that it was over 2 hours with penance horn.

OH.
OH.
Ooops.

Yeah okay that's just a really terrible exp rate compared to what he'd get dropmining, plus a lot of wasted clicking to get to the bank when he could be sitting at the rock. Like 40k/hour less than he should be getting, counting the horn.

Since many skills are not possible to easily train while doing other things (i.e. Hunter, Runecrafting, Agility, etc), I'm fine with getting somewhat lower experience while mining in order to be able to do other things simultaneously. Despite your previous post, I doubt many would agree with you that mousekey-dropping is more AFK than banking ;).

AFK mine to full inventory and then spend 10 seconds mousekey dropping or 30-45 seconds banking. HMM WHICH HAS MORE AFK TIME?
