Is this against the rules? By that I don't mean is it a [bleep] move, I mean can you be reported and banned/muted for it?

Isn't it considered a trust trade and therefore not against the rules? I'm fairly sure I read a Jmod post that said you could not be banned for it.

It's a bit of a different story from dice games. There are legitimate dice games you can play. However, in that case the trader doesn't have a chance to receive money or an improvement, so it's not like a casino game.

 

You can ask Jagex about that specifically though.

At first it is a trust trade, in that you're saying that you will double the money after you receive it, but the instant you log out you just did item scamming because you didn't follow through on your side of the trade.

 

In that case you were not legitimately doubling money therefore you were item scamming and it is against the rules, and you can get banned/muted for it.

 

Trust trades on their own are gray area, but the example you put up was flat out item scamming.

In theory, yes. But considering how they don't seem to be banning anyone lately... :wall:

I hope you're not implying that you have done it or intend to do it... The thing that annoys me most about this is their target audience. Anyone with enough money to spend to make it worth your while scamming them isn't stupid enough to do it, the only people who fall for it are the newbs to whom that small amount of money actually means anything. You will make very little money per hour, and every gp you make will be guarenteed to make a newb's life worse, so frankly if you do it then you're [developmentally delayed]ed on so many levels it's not worth me listing them.

All i got was a 48H mute for doing it. And i did it multiple times. My friend got a 24H mute for helping, but i'm pretty sure it was a pmod that muted him.

I still can't believe people fall for that....

I have always wondered why the heck anyone would do that - it seems to me that anyone who is "doubling money" would pull the same nasty trick Nomrombom pulled (No offense intended). Is there actually anybody who would just double somebody's money out of the goodness of their heart? Seems pretty far fetched if you ask me.

Doubling money in itself is not against any rules, provided you do it in one trade. If you don't, it's a trust trade even if you pay out (which we don't allow to be advertised on these forums, though Jagex does not ban I believe). If you don't pay, it's a scam which you can be banned for, both from the game and these forums. In short, don't double money, give your money away or keep silent.
