burning stuff

when training cooking, is it worth cooking the fish once you can?

e.g. cooking sharks @ 80 cooking (using gauntlets)

if not, do you know a site where it says when it's fine?

thank you

I think its best to start each fish asap.

The burn rate shouldn't be too high so the extra xp should balance it out to at least equal the lower fish; at most I'd say go 2 or 3 levels past just to knock out the worst of the burn rate before you start.

There's probably some study floating around on it if you google enough, not personally seen any though.

This article is kind of incomplete but it shows you when you stop burning the main training options for fish.

that's not what i meant

i wanted to know when it was WORTH cooking fish despite burning them sometimes

I see.

Well, I would say no, it isn't worth burning fish ever, since burning them gives no XP.

Fix'd. Sorry.

It isn't worth cooking something you can burn, since 1 burned fish is usually equal to 9-10 exp gains from cooking the high fish.

ie: cooking lobsters is 100 exp and sharks are 110 exp, you burn 1 shark, and you effectively are gaining the same exp as cooking lobster for the next 10 sharks.

numbers are made up to make a point.

There has to be threshold in that though where the higher fish becomes better.

Using your numbers once shark burn rate drops to 1 in 11 or less then sharks even with burns is making equal or better xp per inventory so would be better in spite of burnings

after the first sentence i immediately disagree

"it isn't worth cooking something you can burn"

i had 94 cooking and used cooking gauntlets and i like NEVER burned a rocktail

so i'm gonna have to disagree ^^

You shouldn't do it immediately because even with cooking gauntlets you will burn a lot of them. Instead wait for a point where they won't burn a lot, so it'll be at that point where it's faster than the non-burnable food.

Wines? All the way, fast xp, easy etc.

You should probably test burn rates extensively and do the calculations yourself.

wines are 1000x more expensive and the xp is only like 1.5x faster so meh

^gross exaggeration.

Time is money anyways, and the time saved using wines is significant enough to make them worth using over fish.

It isn't the percentual increase in cost that matters (e.g. 1000x times more expensive) but the absolute cost increase. The percentual difference in cost between 0 gp/xp and 100k xp/hr and 1 gp/xp and 200k xp/hr is an undefined factor (infinite, you could say) but the break-even point is at 200k gp/hr which makes the second method very cheap compared to the first.

Burning slightly lowers the xp rate but significantly highers the gp/xp rate, and as the only reason to cook fish is because you are poor, it's really not worth cooking fish more than 3-4 levels lower than the no burn level. From the efficiency perspective, anyone with a normal income would be better off doing wines(atleast 2x the xp for a reasnoble gp/xp).

If you want to stick with cooking fish, which I suggest, it doesn't matter all that much if you just do fish at levels without burning since cooking is so super fast anyway. Use decorated urns as well.
