So I have been assigned Tzhaar as my slayer task and I have opted for going through the Fight Caves.

I have never done them before and I am unsure on how I should approach or what I should take.

My stats aren't even close to optimal, but:

82 Attack
80 Strength
80 Defence
78 Ranged
83 HP
70 Prayer Can get 71 and get Curses soon.
70 Herblore so no extremes
56 Dung so no Chaotics

Should I melee or range them?
What items should I bring?
My budget is about 20-30M or so.

I have a full slayer helmet and a fury as well.

Thanks for the help in advance.

5/6 sara brews, 3 range potions & 17 super restores. 500-1000 broad bolts for the waves untill jad. 50-100 diamond (e) for jad himself.

Downgrade the arma legs to veracs skirt if you can't afford them. Can also wait for a jad task and use fsh over veracs helm for more dmg boost.

Also don't bother with curses at 71, just use normal prays much better than deflects.

You can melee or range, either works perfectly fine at your stats. You want to emphasize offence while maintaining decent ranged defence. Since ranged gear tends to have lower defence overall, you want to go for Bandos +defender or Armadyl + shield. If you feel comfortable with luring you can instead use a two-handed ranged weapon which will increase your kill speed and prayer bonus (Karil's crossbow/handcannons + sw cape). For melee, you can already use a sw cape easily. Either way you can pray piety or eagle eye throughout.

If you're nervous about Jad, it's a high possibility that you might mess up when the healers come. I know I always did. That's why when I've done the fights caves (5 times so far) I use deflect curses to kill Jad. All you have to do is watch a vid that way you know what Jad's magic and ranged attacks look like. Then when you get to Jad, just stand where you can see him and switch between deflect magic and deflect range whenever you see the attack. With deflect curses the healers won't spawn and it will take like 5 minutes tops to deflect him to death.
99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving.

Jagex'd out of my untrimmed hp cape on 6/14/2011.

I thought that had been changed so the healers now spawn?

How recently is recently because I think the supposed fix that some people are worried about although I haven't had confirmation either way happened in the last fortnight.

Ok thanks I'm considering getting my firecape back tomorrow I've done the caves before but only ever killed Jad with deflects so it is good to know I can still use it. For the poster I would honestly recommend you melee the caves at your levels I find it to be much faster although admittedly as I said I haven't toe-to-toe killed Jad with melee myself.

This method does NOT work. I tried it several times a couple weeks ago, and the healers still spawned.

Well that is definitely wrong because I tried this method succesfully a month ago to get a firecape so I am pretty sure it did work 'a couple of weeks ago'.

Healers DO SPAWN WHEN USING DEFLECTS.

Here's my original post after I tried using this method:
http://forum.tip.it/..._1#entry4919466

Two weeks ago, and they spawned then.

It should be noted that I also killed the healers two times and they respawned as well (seperate attempt from deflect curses). I did break LOS with italy rock during the attempt that I was killing healers. The only way I could get the healers to quit spawning was to kill them before Jad regained full health (Killed 3 sets of healers this attempt).

Ok well I still haven't had satisfactory confirmation that the healers now spawn. I killed Jad with deflect curses 1 month ago succesfully without the healers spawning but fatherdeath claims that more recently they did spawn so it is possible there was an update if fatherdeath didn't mess up. But I still hear people saying that they killed Jad using deflects very recently so I'm just not sure either way.

I don't see how I could have "messed up". I had SOL equipped the entire fight, because I used the spec' to allow for bad spawns. I've yet to see anyone claim that they've successfully deflected since.

Since we have controversy in this topic on whether or not Deflects work on Jad, he should not take the risk. I would say use Melee. 3 Super Sets (- Def), 6-8 Brews, 3-4 Restores, Claws/EE, Rest P Pots).

Really? Cause as I recall it was you who was the one cussing me at base. Also, re-read what you just said: one 15 second delay (which is an exaggeration to begin with) ruins floor times? You are beyond ridiculous.

Well I just got through my first attempt. I died on wave 61 because of a sad combination of lag and an unfortunate enemy spawn. Since I won't be able to go through the whole fight caves with my Slayer Helmet now, I will not be doing the Fight Caves again right now. I will probably try again in about a week, or whenever I get assigned a task. Thanks for the help anyway guys.
