Tip.it August Challenge

I can't run well right after I've eaten, so usually what I've done in the past (at college) is run in the mornings on an empty stomach and eat afterwards. Say I run for maybe 30 minutes. Is that going to affect my muscles?

I think I'm also going to try and get better with Linux. I'm typing this from my Ubuntu setup right now. Now I have to try and configure my headphone jack to work. :ohnoes:

Is it worth partitioning my hard drive to dual boot with Linux?

Depends. If you have enough space, go for it. I had a 500gb hard drive that I'd never fill, which is why I did it. Don't do it if you need every byte you can get your hands on. I like the operating system itself, I just have to get used to it.

Installing programs can be a bit of a pain too, I've noticed. >_>

Since I still have all week until I start my little workout, I'll have time to think it over.

I hear long distance running not only burns fat but burns muscle, and I'm trying to build a bit of muscle. So I think I may just do sprints at my track every morning. I hear those are better if you want to do cardio but keep more muscle. I don't think I'll be taking any type of protein supplements. Those taste nasty as heck to me. After my sprints, I'll come home and do push ups, crunches/varied ab workouts, planks, and side planks. I'm real optimistic at this point, but I have a feeling I will want to sleep in instead of wake up at 6 am. D:

Seeing as you won't be taking protein supplements, make sure you have lots of high protein foods, such as lean meat, tuna, chicken, eggs, just to name a few. That way, you will have fuel for you muslces, and you can get stronger/bigger. :)

if you plan on running every day buy a pair of real running shoes. cross country is my main sport and without nice shoes you will destroy your knees and ankles. i am 15 years old and have already had knee surgery because of this.

http://www.mizunousa...e-running-shoes <-- sick running shoes

also im starting the 100 pushups program tomorrow (technically today).

I personally wouldn't recommend a specific running shoe to a large group of people. Everyone has a different running style and different type of foot shape. You need a shoe that accomadates to what you have.

And I'm also going to start the 100 PushUps program for my August challenge. Again

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

Instead of starting to do something, I'll stop doing something.

I'll try to not drink soda for at least the month of August. This will probably be difficult.

I drank like 4 cans of coke in the past week against my better judgement (after months of no carbonated drinks), remembered why I stopped drinking soda. Just made me feel kinda ill afterwards.

Already doing "Abstinence August" Nothing sexual in any way for all August. a friends doing it to raise awareness for AIDS so I figured I'd join the bandwagon.

For a single guy, It's quit painful. :|

Can't see how being single has any effect on it - if anything that would make it easier since you wouldn't be accustomed to getting much anyway.

By your last statement, this includes sexual acts by yourself?

Or were you being funny? ^-^

I can't ever finish a full can of soda. My stomach gets bloated. Not a good feeling. Nowadays, I drink water and lemonade (Country Time Lemonade Powder mixed with water). Yum.

After some thought, I decided I will give up fast food completely... since I already cut back considerably (until last weekend, anyway...). Who knows, maybe it will extend past August. Or maybe I'll go out September 1st and stop at every fast food place in the city... I think I prefer the first idea.

Shame. So many people in the world with not a drop to drink...

Since I can't finish one, I don't even start one. Plus, I go through extensive measures to save water. Don't start getting on my back about not caring about the poor, because I do. Plus, soda is unhealthy, so it would only dehydrate those kids who don't have anything to drink. Stop attacking me for something so many people in the world do as well.

...

:P Did I do good, master? :-D

My sister went to McDonald's last night, 5 minutes after I told her I was giving up fast food for the month. My first test of the challenge and I passed.

*high five*

Revised list of things to do:

Use Ubuntu

Learn photography

Practice drums more

100 pushups program (I already missed a day, so I'm not off to a good start. I'll pick up again tomorrow)

Cut back on fast food (I refuse to give up big macs entirely. Once a month/bi-monthly should be fine)

Give up pop (One week's gone by, and I'm doing well, especially considering my mom buys a 12-pack every week)

If you're heterosexual, try dating the same sex for one day.

Anyway, pretty cool idea, though I doubt I'll be attending a church service.

I tried doing the 10 per post with sit-ups, but it became too much of a pain to get up, sit on the ground and do them every time I posted. I still do 30 before bed though.

There's no way in hell i could give up pop, I drink probably about 1-2 litres a day.

I guess I could go with read more, I read a lot if I have a book to read, but I don't go to the library that often. Anyone have any suggestions?

I figured I'd just give up sodas. It's easy enough anyway seeing how I drink more water than anything else. So far so good and it'll help with losing a smidge of weight.

Also, 10 pushups per post challenge/starcraft game.

Actually, cut it down to 5 pushups and 5 situps.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Odd enough, before seeing this thread i actually DID do something i have never done before. I was very stressed and decided to understake some extreme measures to unwing: put some ambiental background music on and read books while i listen to it. Needless to say it was a smashing success. So different from the usual aggresive genre i listen to. I've been tinkering with a few one-shot ideas of things to do that i normally wouldn't, but so far i've put them off.

Anyway, have fun guys :D
