The obvious answer is the Unholy/Zamorak Book, which gives +8 to Range attack. If that isn't an option due to it's price at the moment, the Book of Law/Armadyl book gives a +6 Range attack and is MUCH cheaper. :)

An unholy book would be the best upgrade, that's if you can afford the high price of the pages now. Either that or a deflector w/ void

Depending on what your other gear is your money might be better spent upgrading it then upgrading your shield slot.

 

An unholy book would cost 16.8m to get for a +4 boost over what you currently have. An archers ring would cost less then 1m for a +4 boost. Unholy book also cannot be resold, so once you buy it that money is gone forever.

 

I think the best setup for non-slayer, non-boss ranging is the following:

 

Void range helm, void bottom, deflector, void gloves, ACP (black dhide top), archers ring, Rangers boots (snakeskin boots). Cheaper alternatives are in parentheses.

 

Give us your current gear and your current budget and we can give you what would be best.

If you are using a one-handed weapon, use either void with deflector, or if you need defensive gear an eagle-eye kiteshield.

 

If you are slaying you should either use an unholy book or a two-handed weapon. At current prices it's probably better to get 99 firemaking and use a handcannon than getting an unholy book.

If you use a handcannon, it may explode, getting a higher Firemaking level lowers this chance.

Snakeskin boots > d bots

Avas accumulator > cape. Do the quests, they are easy.

Archers helm > neit

Rune bolts > steel bolts. Also consider darts/knives for low defense monsters. The cost of good ammo is really worth it and the best upgrade you can make.

Broad bolts are the same strength as addy bolts and are cheaper too. They are perfect for slaying.

I find it funny how so many people are willing to go to the trouble of getting and using CCB instead of rune crossbow for a +30 range attack bonus. (Often unnecessary as rune crossbow is already very accurate). This costs them 200 extra coins per hit.

 

But almost all of them use broad bolts instead of rune bolts, which is sacrificing +15 range strength for 874 - 96 / 5 = 155.6 extra coins per hit. (Ava saves roughly 4/5 bolts)

 

15 range strength is worth far more than 30 range accuracy when doing anything other than high level bosses to me (In which case obviously use both)

 

 

On topic: Unholy book is ideal for offensive, eagle eye kite ideal for defensive. (Kite costs even more to recharge, so don't use it for goblin slaying unless you can afford it >.>)

^Very good point. CCbow is, for example, not even worth using at frost dragons, as the extra kills don't pay for the supplies. That's in void (low accuracy to start with) and a cannon (accuracy based on your primary attack).

Also, if you cant afford the unholy book, you could just do all the clue scrolls you get in hopes of getting the pages. Even if you dont get the pages from the rewards, you can always sell the rewards to buy the pages.

unholy is certainly a bit pricy right now (I think its street is upwards of 20m+), but if you plan on pking a lot in the future it's a worthwhile investment for hybrids. It's particularly useful if you welfare and since you can reclaim the book with all pages intact upon losing it, the item is never risked.

Like I said before, there are for more worthwhile upgrades to his gear then unholy book.
