Samaster
When I kill TD's i use mage melee with pps. I get very fast kills with rapier but i was wondering if it would be worth my tokens to get cls... Would this speed kills up? The only other thing I would be getting with the tokens right now is eek, but i have no plans to stop dungeoneeing so in the end i will have everything. Quest_Cape_K
The best weapon for melee would be Chaotic Maul, but the second best would be a CLS because of it's higher hits than a rapier.

Neither the chaotic maul or the chaotic longsword does more DPS than the chaotic rapier at tormented demons. Not at his level.
Quest_Cape_K
Maybe for the rapier but the maul is by far the best weapon in my experience.
Samaster
I found that maul dosnt hit constantly enough, good high hits, but too slow if you miss. You can get 1 or 2 awesomely fast kills, but for constant fast kills im guessing rapier will be best. Cheers for all your posts :)
Leon S
Maybe for the rapier but the maul is by far the best weapon. Chaotic maul at 99 Strength, overloaded, using Turmoil, at a 200 Strength bonus, maxes at 718. At an attack speed of 6 game ticks, that's 199 DPS max. Chaotic rapier at 99 Strength, overloaded, using Turmoil, at a 152 Strength bonus, maxes at 588. At an attack speed of 4 game ticks, that's 245 DPS max. How can the maul be better than the rapier at tormented demons?

JeRambo
Stick with rapier. "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." "An imperfect man can do great deeds, and a great man imperfect ones.
TC3
I always use my trusty rapier, I found the cls to be too slow and really not that great at tds. Stick with rapier.

Scherzo
In pure dps then it's rapier>cls>maul at td's. but since you're going to have quite high dps at them, there's a fair chance you won't keep up with the weapon speed all the time. So if you tend to be a bit slower, then a cls or a maul would be a better alternative - it is certainly easier. When you feel like you've got the hang of it, then upgrading to a faster chaotic would be a good idea.
Leaf
If you have low apm, you might as well use a slower weapon so as not to waste time by failing to switch quickly enough. Purely from a DPS standpoint though, rapier is much better.
Quyneax
Maul doesn't really favour low apm though since you need to switch darklight + defender and pps + arcane (or mage's book) or lose a lot of accuracy. Rapier is still better. It also combines very nicely with the Ardougne cloak which has +6 stab and magic attack and +6 prayer. Hedgehog
I think the logic behind using a maul is that it has a higher chance of hitting 300+, which means you have to deal less range/mage damage on average. I think rapiers still have higher average dps, though.

Even 1 tick seems to make it noticably easier to switch without wasting any hits/time.
