Let's say by luck, the criminal is right next to you.

 

"Gimme your money"

 

-You slowly reach for your sword (to avoid suspision, as any other way would earn you a gun shot-

 

"Hands in the air!" (Any smart person would shout this)

 

-You don't do it, and grab the sword quickly-

 

-You're shot at due to his reaction time being faster than your time to grab/draw/use your sword-

 

-Luckily you're only shot in an area that is not fatal-

 

-Criminal gets in a hurry cause he's just shot you, and people probably heard that shot-

 

-He pistol whips you in the face, the force of the metal object knocks you out, or atleast makes you dazed for a minute-

 

-When you regain conciousness you feel lucky that only your wallet was stolen, and that you're still alive, albeit in the hospital, oh and you're questioned as to why you have a sword-

Throwing an wallet overarm from 5 meters is gonna get you shot in the arm.

Throwing a wallet underarm from 5 meters isn't gonna hit someone in the face very hard.

Of course you don't use a sword on a criminal, Mather!

Which brings up the question, why do people here seemingly not know the difference between a mugging and a burglary?

 

And if I what I bring up is my wallet then the criminal will not expect it to be a weapon. But anyways if he stood right next to me I would knock the gun aside (worst case getting shot in the shoulder), punch him in the solar, block the weakened blow that would likely come in a circular motion diagonally down towards my head and punch his nose in.

 

Also most of the contents of my wallet is 1kr coins, which is 4,5 grams, 120 of which would weigh about half a kilo.

I am betting Mather carries around lumps of Uranium encased in Lead for the sole purpose of making his wallet heavy.

I think we are entering the realms where someone could say 'I get down on my knees and pray to God and he smites them down for me.'

Of course, if this was a Brandon Sanderson book Mather could just hide the sword in the wallet, then pull a Bastille and backhand the criminal with it.

OK, face it you're not a super hero, a shot to ANYWHERE on your body, will hurt you very much, and make it so that you can't really fight back. You wont be able to aim a punch to the solar when you've just been shot, heck if you even hit the solar after being shot, you wont do much of a punch, it'll be at best, a tap.

 

The ONLY instances where people have survived gun shots to do such things, is when they fear for their life and adrelanine kicks in, but as you point out you have NO fear, thus the bodily reaction will NOT take place, leaving you in a lot of pain.

 

But the reaction happening enough so that the person can shrug off the wound, is even more rare. Most cases just allows the person to slowly be knocked out without pain, or too just simply ease the pain, and not so you can go and punch someone.

 

You get it Mather? It's not that it's impossible, it's just YOU can't do it.

So, how should a mugger be punished in the perfect society?

I thought we covered that in a perfect society, there'd be no mugger in the first place?

Electrodes in his/her wallet and on his fingertips...whenever they get any money out they get zapped.

 

 

Actually that would probably apply better as a defence in the first place, so everyone who doesn't have authorisation gets zapped.

Fear would not be a factor, however anger would, if I get pissed enough to beat my computer for being slow then I most certainly can get pissed enough to beat a mugger.

Mather, unless the situation involves an Asimov twist or modern U.S. Military prototypes, a computer isn't going to shoot you.

Click the box with your name at the top, go to "My settings", and there should be a signature/avatar section in there somewhere. Recommend looking for yourself because there are a lot of other useful things there.

Well anger won't but if you're shot in a non vital area the adrenaline rush that follows sure as hell will help to keep you from noticing the pain too much.

Hence why you damage a semi-vital area...such as the leg, so they can't walk, but aren't seriously wounded.

Mather said he doesn't feel fear, thus he wouldn't really get that much of an adrelanine boost.

And most children say they will never grow up...
