It's more convoluted the more realistic the shooter... In BFBC2 I play Squad Rush as a sniper running between cover, maintaining perimeters, watching out for my teammates and spotting/sniping enemies near objectives. The expected tactic is shock-trooper-rushing, both as attack AND defence.

Okay, let me give you an example of what powergaming is that should be obvious:

Lets say you and a friend are argueing which of you is a better driver and decide that you will come to a racetrack that you managed to rent for a few hours, and will do a race to see who can finish faster. If you show up in your street legal car, that is friendly competition. If you show up in an F1 race car (or Nascar, etc.) to race you are powergaming.

Essentially, if your preparation or tactics totally eliminate all challenges involved, especially when in a multiplayer experience you end up making all your teammates redundant, you are powergaming.

The special effects were pretty cool, from what I can tell. And considering it was based off a book in which the majority of the time the three main characters were yelling amongst themselves in a tent in a forest, it wasn't too bad.

Still not too happy about Harry being revived because of some stuff with the Hallows, though. Seems like a copout by the author to keep her main character alive while she kills off half the remaining cast. <_<

Dat spoiler

I gave up on fallout 3 after I stole a spork and got killed every time I set foot in the first town

Book's been out long enough that I don't consider it spoilers.

Define powergaming.

Playing to win instead of playing to play.

I guess that can mean so many things... especially in Call of Duty.

You could probably define it as that kind of 'play-to-win' mentality, in a game where you should be taking on the mentality of your character/head of government/whatever.

Well, I mean specifically. There's this whole debate over K/D vs flag captures in Domination and other games. I've found though that I didn't capture any flags until the end one match and instead kept the enemy at bay while my teammates took the flag. So I suppose it's one of those things where it depends on the types of kills you're getting.

Interest factor diving, diving....

Oh. My. God. That was the most awsomest movie I have seen, besides the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Didn't have a favorite part, since the movie is that awsome. My favorite quote from both the movie and book is when Mrs. Weasly and Bellatrix are fighting and Mrs. Weasly says "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU <Beeep>!" Definatly cried, not sure when (I can't see that well when I cry), and I can't remember if George/Remus/Tonk's death scene was before Snape's, but I cried any damn way. Draco looks really weird with the mustach/beard combo (lol). The kissing scene's were alittle exagerated ( ). AND OHMIGOD, SNAPE'S MEMORIES ARE SO DAMN SAD!

All in all, that was a good movie. Now, onwards to the Hungar Games and Maximum Ride! Also looking foward to see Puss in Boots XD The Smurfs should have stayed as the annoying cartoon.

Wait wait wait. They're making movies out of The Hunger Games, and Maximum Ride. Wat.

If they frickin' retcon the first three Maximum Ride books to be annoying, unconvincing, unentertaining rants about the environment like the rest of the books for the movie I will be so pissed. And I don't think they could even make a Hunger Games movie with less than an R rating and stay true to the material. That book was just too gruesome.

Also, Spork, that explains quite a lot.

Nex.... *sigh* Nevermind.

I NEED THE LAST BOOK FOR THE MAXIMUM RIDE BOOKS BEFORE I GO SEE THE MOVIE! I NEED TA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Sadly, the next last book doesn't come out untill 2012.

If you want a reasonably good example of Powergaming then you can look at Retech in the current Hegemony.

Rather than fight a protracted, interesting and fun war, he decides to just launch a bunch of missiles and have it over in five minutes flat.

Thats pretty much what powergaming is...Where you bypass the group's fun element so you can win faster.

If everyone finds it fun to powergame then its not powergaming, as everyone is on the same page.

And if you are playing on your own then it is only powergaming if you don't enjoy it(as typically happens when you play in God Mode)

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

That was because my soldiers were more incompetent than usual, so missiles were a more reliable approach. :P

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

Yup...Its the soliders....

*one day in the land of iPod young Celeste realizes she can read small print*

Eh Retech's never been the one for strategy and more on the way for "How can I win the fastest, the cost doesn't really concern me"

Also the fact that you can build enough missiles in a few years to completely obliterate the large cities of Britain... Without it becoming world wide knowledge (ever tried hiding that many missiles?)

The game just lacks certain key aspects in the real world which make certain things you are able to do in hegemony impossible. Such as this missile business... In real life, even if you were able to get that many missiles, you would not be able to launch them, but let's say you were a dictator with complete rule and could launch them, you would have been discovered before you would be able to fire... And you wouldn't be able to fire them all at the same time, no you would have to do barrages. Also the fact that these aren't 'real' people.. You aren't stricken with guilt.

I actually vote to just have the entire event removed from the game, it was a [bleep] move that Retech always pulls, and it's a bit old now.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

It's physically possible to both hide and fire them all at the same time.

China is full of empty cities built just in order to keep the workers working and the money flowing, if he placed one missile in every house or apartment and used a radio-activated trigger, he could fire millions of missiles at the same time from something that looked like... China being China...

Ok what country was Retech?

Because I am pretty sure he was either Germany or France.

And no, firing a missile from China to England is harder than it sounds, they have to long range missiles, which gives Britain a lot of time (a lot of countries can easily find out that missiles are heading for them, the problem is dealing with them) and thus evacuate the cities, or even set up some missile defense in the time.

Also the fact that he would have to proxy China for that, and the fact China would have to put themselves on the line from an almost global assault from a ton of countries afterwards.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

Retech was China-Germany-France-Spain... although he was just messing around so I guess Archi did it more because he was getting annoyed at Res' "superior"" behaviour.

Also you'll have a hard time shooting down a million missiles even if they're huge cruisers bee-lining for your AAs.

Riiiiiiiight

Yeah anyway, I say just reverse time or something, or claim the events didn't happen, because I really don't want to play a game like that.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I am not fussed either way.

I am more or less on Resistance's side (though I am on Lynx's and Wyvern's side over Canada)...But the Legacy of Hex means I can't stop Retech playing.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I don't mean stop anyone playing, but that proxying was getting stupid.

Yes Res was getting stupid about Canada, but how come when anyone declares war EVERYONE jumps them. Christ guys, you complain when it happens to you but you ALWAYS do it to someone else.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

Retech actively told me he was just playing to put Resistance out of the game...I think he even admitted it on thread...

He hasn't done anything other than attack Resistance so denying him that is akin to banning.

And, as far as I know, only Retech is actually invading Res.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Riiight.

Well how come he's like like 3-4 countries? Some countries don't even make sense.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

It seems literally no one reads my posts in that thread...

Well for the first part is that the first person to jump into the war has a 100% chance of having the defending nation as an ally in the war, so they outnumber the person 2 to 1 and the additional player does not have to worry about a counterattack of any reasonable size. After the first few it becomes everyone else jumping into the war in order to manage to obtain something from the original agressor after they inevitably lose.

Actually, no, in this case it was actually the ideal that won over the players.

I started the economical war, people understood why I was doing it and joined me because they saw it as something that had to be done, Res responded with military force and so did our side to this response.

Which reminds me that Res should be running out of oil since the largest oil nations are all player controlled and he cannot cut a deal with them to replace the one he had with Norway without their leaders' consent.
