Mather....If you are supposed to drop the bullet in through the hole...then doesn't it make sense that the hole shouldn't be blocked by the block?

Though personally, it seems like a rather heavy mechanism.

If you are going with a springloaded mechanism then would do better to have a small, light, block.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Okay.

Fallen Angel is an awesome song.

I don't think there are any youtube videos with it I can put here that won't be removed.

And if you ever look it up yourself, and for some reason wonder where it came from... Don't. Just don't. Some thing are too weird for mortal comprehension.

...

I'm not sure whether I should sue Racheya for the mental damage or praise her for letting me find awesome music.

Arch, you pull it all the way back and lock it in place by sliding the handle down, then you drop the projectile in, then you slide the handle back up so the block goes back to the trigger, then you fire.

It wouldn't be that heavy, the whole thing is made in a cm scale, designed for 20mm steel balls. it would not weigh much more than a handgun, the whole thing would be about as heavy as a machine pistol or SMG.

Though that is a rough first draft just to show Res how it works.

Mather, the block is hard against the back of the barrel...

Either that or it is a poorly representive image.

Also... The gun would be Muzzle Loaded, since the block shoots out on a peice of elastic...requiring you to use some sort of ramrod to reload. THEN you use the breech loading spot to put the bullet in.

(That, or there is some sort of latch to prevent the block shooting out the end, which might deflect the bullet or break off...And would then require you to use a ramrod to reload the gun, since you would need to put tension into the elastic band.)

(If it was spring loaded then you would still need the ramrod to reload the spring...or you would need to pull the block back, then push the spring in, along with the endcap.)

Meaning the entire operation is far longer and more complex than it actually needs to be.

Far better, easier and more efficent to just use a fully muzzle loaded gun with a ramrod in the first place.

Even better, though harder, to use the winding mechanism I suggested.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

No, it's not, the only thing on that model which keeps you from just taking the rod out by tilting it backwards is the handle, there's nothing behind the rod, just above, below and beside it.

The image is a piece of [cabbage] automatically generated from my POV upon uploading the model, download it at view it in SketchUp.

Why would I use a piece of software that is worse than software I have from 1999, and is possibly the worst 3d design program I have ever had the misfortunte to encounter?

Also...how are you going to get the block back under the latch?

Either, the elastic on the block has no tension in, so when you release it nothing happens.

Or, the elastic on the block has tension in, so won't go all the way down to the latch.

Your entire concept is fundermentally flawed.

You have a mechanism that has no actual function.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I agree with you Archi, sketchup is terrible software for design. It is only good for creating squares, any curved shapes are cumbersome to create. You get what you pay for. I have been looking at getting this: Z-Brush for my CAD needs and have downloaded Blender which seems rather intuitive but I don't understand it and haven't stuck by it enough.

Thanks for the model Mather, I've downloaded it and now know how to make the mechanism. As I've said earlier I only want a simple design.

The current issue is the one that I brought up earlier, the projectile falling out of the bolt when pointed down, if the bullet is not secured in the metal tight it will fall out. I need something that will prevent the bullet sliding out, would a thin piece of sliced paper (so it tears easily) do the job?

qTLQRuS.png

I forgot about that , sorry stupid question.

I just want to point out that the gun is mainly for asthetics, the actual firing mechanism is only because making a gun that doesn't fire is like making a toaster that doesn't toast: pointless. The actual gun will be part of a pirate themed set in a pirate case so I will also be including (as well as the gun)

  •
  • A leatherbound pirate notebook
  • A pirate hook complete with severed bone (pigs bone)
  • Pirate hat & Patch
  • Pirate sword (I'll rust it so it is legal and safe)
  • Pirate medical kit (Syringe, bandages, saw, medicine)

and if I have time I'll make a pouch of stamped pirate coins and other treasure.

Here is what I got my inspiration from.

Archi, that is the mechanism alone, I haven't drawn the rubber bands because that would require me to draw the rest o the gun as well.

And SketchUp is not a design software, it's a modeling tool, sure it'll take days to make detailed models fit for use in games, but it's easy to use, allows better freedom than any other and you can with no problem design an entire city in it as one model.

Res, if you have a bandsaw and some plywood my estimate is that the mechanism would take no more than an hour to make.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Gosh, The Crusades doesn't seem very popular. Should I abandon it?

qTLQRuS.png

No, just no, ICU.

David Tenant kicked ass, but the new Doctor is an annoying dork with a useless partner who keeps breaking canon.

I have said it before, and will say it again...The Doctor lost his marbles when he tried to change history, ever since then doom has dogged his footsteps.

I blame Tennet's Doctor for the current Matt Smith problem...If only he had respected the temporal accords...then Patrick Stewart's Doctor would have been created.

I'm trying to pop it back to normal, somehow that isn't working...

The most I can manage is to get an angle of 180° between the outside of my arm and palm... which is 5-10° different from normal position.
