Kalphite Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 8/10, haven't checked out much doom metal aside from the obvious Candlemass, Reverend Bizarre, and Warning before, but that was pretty great. Didn't really seem too proggy outside of the odd time signatures but I guess the progressive tag probably holds strong relative to other doom metal. Doom metal does tend to be a little less complex harmonically though, when it uses harmonies at all. Besides, there is no good criterion for defining progressive music, and the name in and of itself implies a comparison in time: considering our heritage from the late 60s/early 70s, if In the Court of the Crimson King was released today, would it have made any progress? thingummywut Posted May 14, 2012 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Ahh, gotta love some Tull... been way too long since I last listened to some. From one of my favourite Jethro Tull albums, too. The only thing I would like to have in this song would be some kind of really catchy rock guitar riff (there are a lot there but none ever stuck into my head like in some other Tull Songs, for example the riff in Cross-Eyed Mary is something I've fiddled on guitar for years now). 9.5/10! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJLw2xhcFVENo, it doesn't end prematuraly, the next piece just starts from that.
