Charm collecting for 96 Summoning

I really need to get my summoning level up, but I don't really know the best way to get charms. I need ~9k crimsons to get to 96 from where I'm at now (90). I know that Rock Lobsters and Waterfiends are some of the best methods, but I want to know which methods are right for me.

My roommate just suggested Glacors to me for charms and cash to actually make the pouches. Is this a very viable method?

99 Attack

93 Strength

92 Defense

95 Prayer

99 Ragned

86 Magic

90 Summoning

91 Herblore

I am not opposed to spending money, but I do not have much of it. I am only concerned with the cost of the charms for the moment as opposed to making the pouches. Any help is appreciated.

You said in ISE that you're getting goliaths. I'm not sure on 90 to 94 summoning but definitely try out goliaths/iron titan at CT waterfiends. You have the stats for it; I do fine with 91 melees and 93 hp with titan/ovl/turmoil. They're pretty cheap compared to rock lobsters I believe. No solid numbers but I leave a trip consuming 4 ovl(4) and like 12 ppot (4) and get back around 100-150k in random seaweed/water talismans/water orbs.

Maybe barraging/bursting/whatever if you can't boost to 94 magic would be good though, if you want to level up magic.

Glacors at your Magic level wouldn't be a very good option...Still feasible, but without Fire Surge, your kph can drop drastically. I think I saw Quyneax mention that Fire Surge max was 280, as opposed to Blast's 200. Escalate that to Glacor's weakness, and you see you'll get roughly 30% less kph without Surge.

I've just recently done Waterfiends for some Charms, and I didn't find them all that tiring, so I'd also go with that. On Lob spots, you'll have to fend off crashers every now and then, and it requires a whole lot of attention. WFs can be a bit more relaxed, plus, it's only another good incentive to get Goliaths.

As Cow said, with at least an Iron Titan, you can also try out CT Waterfiends.

Don't forget to Bork daily, even more so if you have Varrock Elite done. Use a RoW.

Make good use of Familiarisation weekly.

Just as a little sidenote, I'm not sure on how feasible TDs are for charms, but if you like them, you can look into it.

Cannoning Wallasalkis is around 30 blues / hour last I heard, too, and cannoning Kalphites at the DNE cave oughta be around that as well.

Something very easy and one of the best way to get charms would be to ice burst rock lobsters.

Some stats to give you an idea:

I bursted rock lobs for 84-99 mage and it got me the charms for 88-99 summoning.

To spend less cash on the runes, I highly suggest using battle robes with sol, it saves half of the runes. I also had a tome of frost, so didn't need any water rune. (also used arcane steam but that's up to you!)

Also, instead of having inventory full of ppots at the start of my 3k casts trips (battle robes fully degrade in ~6 hours trip, which is approximatively equivalent to 3k bursts), i brought a full outfit that gives prayer bonus (to pray melee during the lures).

Switching from battle robes to proselyte is a must, but i also brought my SGS, and specced a dagganoth every now and then for prayer boost. That way, i only needed 1 or 2 prayer pots for 6 hours trips ;)

If you have anymore questions, feel free to add me in-game :)

@ Low

I can afford just about anything be Nex gear, and I don't want to do dungeoneering for more items (so no maul). I have been using void top and bottom to do waterfiends tasks for the defense bonuses (similar to d'hide) and its prayer bonus.

@Gradeskip

I have bursted before (a long time ago though), and I did the exact same thing that you did. I might honestly burst until I run out of money, then do waterfiends/Glacors.

Also, I just calculated that I can cast 15560 Ice Bursts before I go completely broke (using today's rune prices). I just need to figure out how many charms that comes out to be.

If you want to kill rock lobsters get 2 more mage levels and overload boost so that you can barrage this will greatly increase your charms/hr. CT WFs are not a bad choice either especially with goliath's and a titan. If you are going for max cape you should really slay. For a bit of variety you could look up Tieszen's KBD guide.

In my opinion bursting is not worth it unless you want to train mage, barrage or kill waterfiends.

I've been collecting charms lately myself, switching between glacors, barraging rock lobsters and killing waterfiends. As I also lack titans, I'm not getting that good killrates at waterfiends. Barraging rock lobsters is by far best summoning experience /h, but glacors aren't really that far. However, I use SoA + 99 magic, pretty much maxed mage gear I can get up to 55 kph without iron titan (i use other combat familiars).

I think bursting will be very good option. It isn't even that expensive. Runes are cheaper than ever before. Killing them is easy and you get alot of magic experience (which is good considering magic is your lowest combat skill, and very useful in places like barraging, glacors, fight kiln etc).

If I was you I would most likely go bursting. Use burstinglobs friends chat for opening doors/finding empty spots/blessing graves incase you happen to die.

I got 200+ crimsons /h barraging (+ some other charms), so I think you could expect 100+ crimsons /h + other charms. Waterfiends is possible option, but I also found it very tiring.

Rock lobsters are lower crims/hour than ct wfs. There's no reason to kill them for charms.

And how many crims/hour are waterfiends, and with what familiar / setup...?

He shouldn't have much trouble breaking 200/hour.

I'll try this out myself, but for some reason I have huge doubts of this being the case without iron/steel titans.. I'll comment more after I have tried it out (I have no titans either). Last time I killed waterfiends I didn't get even close to 200/h.. :?

Burst to 92 mage, then Glacor with fire surge and overload boost, don't start surging at 88, as you won't get the 21% damage boost from overloads. It comes to about 40 blues/crims per hour, and a blue is roughly 2 crimsons xp wise, and you get a fair bit f mage xp too, not done precise maths, but it's easily 120k, possibly as high as 150k.

You could just use fire wave till 93 mage, but it's really up to you. You should be able to kill ~1.5k+ Glacors before you hit 99 mage. from 95

Were you using goliaths and max str gear?

I haven't hunted fiends for ages, not since goliaths at least, but last I checked 130/hr was a decent rate with 85 melees & maul in the Ancient Cavern. With goliaths, tokhaar, max stats etc. you can probably get that up to 150 or something, but 200+ requires a ton of goliath specs or a good combat familiar.

don't start surging at 88, as you won't get the 21% damage boost from overloads.

I thought the 21% boost was applied regardless of the level of the spell you're casting?
