We've covered how, since 9/11, the National Security Agency has spied on electronic communications of Americans without the court-approved warrants ordinarily required for domestic spying.

The organization has done this by hiring Israeli contractors to bug the U.S. telecommunications network and building massive complexes such as their secretive $2 billion Utah spy center.

Now the American Civil Liberties Union has created this handy infographic that shows how the NSA's domestic spying program thrives with impunity today:

Horrible! Now, where are the billions of people being charged with crimes? No where? Huh...Well, where's the people having their LIVELIHOODS violated? No where either? Huh...Well, where are the secret memos they clearly kept of me calling my friends?! No where either? Huh...It's almost like they may have more, dare I say, important things to do than to listen to the conversations of normal people.

 

But this is still pretty scary! Right?

 

Good guy. See, governments have this thing called order needing to be upheld. Since this is under the executive branch, the agency has no political leanings towards a particular party - they only worry about the stability of the federal government as a whole.

 

So you can still talk about politics, why Obama is a good or bad president, medicare's flaws, and hatred of the American breuacracy.

 

Only thing you can't talk about is overthrowing the government, on a regular basis, with the same set of people...But needless to say you can't do this in ANY country past, future, and present.

I can't be the only one who hopes that, if they do take notes, my internet history would at the very least confuse some government employee.

Not surprised there's wire tapping going on. TBH, my problem with this is that the NSA isn't being transparent about their dealings and instead denied that anything is going on. I really don't think the government really cares about what Timmy's been doing with Jane.

My post was sarcastic. I honestly find such apathy towards the subject of privacy absolutely appalling.

I feel like it's a little bit redundant to say you care about your constitutional rights. We already know it's illegal. We want to know whether it's legitimate. I'm pretty undecided on that question.

That brownie was the best brownie I ever had.

 

I also learned how to get into most wireless routers and remove/change the password.

I tried to do that but the brownie turned out gelatinous and tasteless. I was shocked that infographics had failed me.

It's a bit worrying that a lot of this is done without at least some information handed out to the public. They could

explain what the purpose is for and eliminate a lot of peoples worries by re-assuring them. But the lack of information

has allowed this to grow into an issue for a lot of people. Imo, this is a step towards a police state.
