Good Picture Editing Software?

Featured Replies

Could anyone tell me some good picture editing software regardless of whether its free or not but that would be helpful.

Looking to do some designs for a signature - or if anyone knows any packs for gimp that would be good as well. :)

Paint.net is a decent picture editor. I use it to crop/edit/touch up photos for my website.

I think Abode Photoshop CS2 was recently released as freeware.

Any Photoshop.

CS3 as a minimum though, probably.

This should be in the tech part of the forums, but have you tried GIMP? Basically Photoshop but not as fancy

Finally on here to update that I have officially quit! It's been fun.

Moved to The Gallery.

Also taken from The Gallery FAQ , this one hasn't been mentioned:

  • Jasc PaintShop Pro - An imaging program similar to PhotoShop but not as powerful (in my opinion), but is an inexpensive alternative to achieve similar effects created with PhotoShop.

I have tried GIMP but i found t quite confusing.

I'll look into CS2 and CS3 and Jasc's one.

Should you decide to use GIMP, just YouTube some tutorials. Once you understand certain key things it's not that confusing.

  • 1 month later...

Paint Shop Pro by Corel is a much cheaper alternative to Photoshop and it has some good features.

  • 2 months later...

I bought Photoshop CS6 as of last month, and I have to say that I'm very impressed with the program. Although, if you are not in the position to spend money on a program such as Photoshop I would suggest Gimp, Paint.net, and Photoshop CS3 which is free.

I use a combination of MSPaint and GIMP.

Well, it should be noted that GIMP does things differently than Photoshop does. When I got into working with selective color in photos, I couldn't follow any of my father-in-law's tutorials (as he uses CS2 if I remember right). When I found a good tutorial for GIMP, I noticed that GIMP used a very different method for selective color.

Also: the GIMP doesn't really do vector-based graphics-- a separate dedicated program called Inkscape does. Important distinction if you use vector methods for scalable graphics (.svg files and the like). Not needed if all you do is raster-based, I think.

GIMP really is not THAT much different. I used it.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Adobe Suite all the way.

I pretty much exclusively use Adobe Lightroom 4. I'll open photoshop if I have to do some manipulations that I simply can't do in Lightroom but that's getting rarer & rarer with each new version of Lightroom.

If you are looking for a free online photo editing tool, then I would suggest you to use iPiccy. I have used it and  its quite good for most of the editing task. It has some inbuilt effect as well.
