The production process isn't different per se, but it's a lot harder to regulate considering you can print a printer.

Do you suppose that shop tools couldn't be similarly produced using shop tools?

You could, if by similarly you mean notwithstanding the fact that I have none of the necessary human capital, let alone the time. I'm looking at the RepRap wiki right now, and I can't tell if all the parts can be printed or not.

I would expect a 3D printer to be far more versatile than a hacksaw. I don't have one of those, but I imagine it won't be long before I have a 3D printer--not necessarily to print guns with, but maybe guitar picks or Lego.

The Manchin-Toomey amendment failed. (54-46/60)

The Grassley-Cruz amendment, introduced hours before the vote failed. (52-48/60)

The Leahy amendment failed. (58-42/60)

I just watched the "sentimental" broadcast they did live, and I just won a bet on the timing they would be doing this (my take was on mid april).

I frequent many online gun-friendly communities, and as much as I love them, it's always the same thing when a shooting happens:

1. Sellers panic and start the "muh guns, they gunna take muh guns" campaign

2. Hoarders panic and begin mass buying

3. Price of guns rise like hell in the U.S.

4. Several bills, laws, etc. are proposed

5. Sellers reinforce their campagin with perfect timing compared to proposed bills, laws, etc.

6. Prices rise even more, people start massively hoarding ammo

7. Insert 2-3 months of the same thing gradually going down

8. The goverment broadcasts some sort of emotional defeat speech, etc...

9. Prices go back to normal, and those who proposed bills, laws, etc. / the victims / anyone who was against guns is nowhere to be seen.

You missed the part where they sometimes pass a compromise that puts restrictions somewhere between the ridiculous first draft and what we compromised to last time.

And where the government leverages their monopoly to buy out the manufacturing capacity of all 9mm rounds, effectively implementing back door "gun" control.

Or how stocks of ammo are magically filling the shells of previously empty ones due to "extreme shortage"... As always, someone made quite a lot of money out of this

I can't buy a box of 9mm rounds because all the local stores are perpetually sold out. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security is contracted to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds in the next 5 years.

"Magically filling" my ass.

Which state? During the shortage I was buying ammo here for some friends over the states as it even turned way cheaper with shipping costs. But they've been telling me for the last 2-3 days that they'll start buying back with their local stores since they are starting to show up again and the price is at least acceptable.

But then again, 9mm... lol. Just messing, altho all of my pistols are .45, I know it must be frustating since 9mm is quite popular, specially in the states.

While it might make selling a bit more inconvenient, there is nothing stopping a felon or a mentally unstable person from responding to your ad and acquiring a firearm they should not be able to have. It may still have holes, but it allows legal action to be taken against those who illegally resell firearms to criminals.

The failure of the proposed legislation in passing the Senate serves to underline just how divided the US is on gun control overall. It's one thing having an equal share of opinions either side, but the aggression and conviction that politicians and lay people use is intense. In almost every other political issue, people gravitate towards the "middle ground"... gun control is one of very few issues where opinion moves towards the extreme poles.

There's very little room for compromise when both side's definition of compromise is "You don't understand what I'm trying to say, just accept what I say is true and don't argue."
