While afking training cooking, I came up with this extremely rough paint edit of what it could look like if the g.e. was moved to Varrock center.

That's not really as grand as it is now, is it :P

I don't really see a need for this. Doesn't make it closer to teles or anything so why bother changing it?

 

Especially in the context where theres a couple of instanced Varrocks for quests that would have to be redone as well and there is one or two quests and tasks that make specific use of the fountain you propose removing, making them need to be redone. Plus it devalues the Varrock Task rewards that allow for your teleport to be moved the the grand exchange and the purpose of the teleports on the ring of wealth.

 

Seems like a lot of work for a change that does not give any real benefit

There is a reason why the GE is that big now. That is because it is always one of most busiest places, which creates a lot of lag for people with bad specs (or just with macs like me, because java for mac is crap sadly). Luckily as an ironman I don't ever need to go to that place (except for a few tasks)

Us poor peasant F2P'ers have to walk all the way from Varrock Square. Or even worse, from Varrock lodestone! :'(

I like the idea of a graphical rework of the GE.  But no need to move it.  

On second thought I honestly never understood why we need a separate place for the GE, why not have it at every bank? it doesn't take longer to go to any bank than to go the GE (for members at least) so why the need for a separate place in the first place?

I've always just been teleporting to Edgeville and running around the wall x)

I just think the Grand Exchange takes up so much space. Space that could be used for other things. The G.E. is really only crowded in some F2P worlds and world 1 and 2 really. Beyond that it's empty.

The area GE takes us isn't really big enough to put any major content in though.

Before the GE it was just pretty much empty space right back to classic; about all the ge did space wise was nudge cooking guild south.

 

Why move something that's big if we don't actually have a better use for that space?

 

Plus I would say GE still sustains fair crowds on most worlds - sure it doesn't LOOK crowded but that is because people are spread out between the 4 different 'nodes' and largely stacked up on top of each other.

 

Speaking as someone who suffered with mac lag and know people with older lower spec machines ge is still a big lagfest due to crowds on pretty much every world.

^Except for the little house only there for a quest (i think) which has been moved when G.E. came out if I remember correctly. 

 

 

Also why does every little space needs to be used, I like that we have some space that isn't used, like lots of space in the desert. It gives the feeling that a place is large.

Imagine varrock square on minimap, put a ge node where the fountain is.

 

That is what the picture was.

In other words, shrink the hell out of the G.E., turn it into just a tiny outpost, and remove the old one? :blink:

 

As if anyone really needs Varrock to become a worse lagfest than I used to see it reach. :rolleyes:
