v3nd3tta
Admin Edit: The actual article about Shiva is, "Reality of a death saddens the virtual world" The link is in the second post, but given the title of this thread, it should be first. The link to the article is here: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06064/665353.stm In the article they explain how virtual gamers (us) came together to mourn shiva's death and what we had to say about it. v3nd3tta
Interesting. She did, maybe she got interested into the subject? It seemed she had very good descriptions in the first article, about going mining and cutting wood. Kinda like she exaterated it.
Varda
Bet so. I really want to give her a non anti flame shield, and then flame her. But I can't :x Because of laws or sorta. So now I'm going back through everything (almost) in that newspaper thing. To find more - if she has wrote something more about the....case. My mistake. Ignore this post. BlackFalcon
Wow i like the "Death Marches", even though i never meet Shiva he seems to have had a big impact on alot of people. The only part that didn;t make me sad was the reporters attempt to describe rs. I just liked the terms she used to talk about it.
Barihawk
She used quotes from Tip.It in the article. In fact, I was quoted ("He was my best friend in the virtual world"). Im not sure if Lightning wants to say more on the subject. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Karmastocracy
Hmmm, she has put specific quotes too.... Think she's someone on this board? Becuase im almost positive ive seen those quotes before.... Barihawk
If you read the post above mine... :P My quote is from the Tip.It times article. And yes, she had an account at these boards. v3nd3tta
Yeah, the "death martches" part was weird. Im geussing she made a lvl 3 account to investigate the game, heard someone say "dm" and then some noob told her "dm" was "death marching"
v3nd3tta
sorry for double post. but my edit page wouldnt load. anyway, its been bothering me that she made no attempt to contact any of us and inform us of what she intended to do and why she was doing it. Phil
Bet so. I really want to give her a non anti flame shield, and then flame her. But I can't :x Because of laws or sorta. So now I'm going back through everything (almost) in that newspaper thing. To find more - if she has wrote something more about the....case. I don't see why you would want to flame her. She has written the article in a tasteful and sensitive way as to not offend anyone. Yeah, the "death martches" part was weird. Im geussing she made a lvl 3 account to investigate the game, heard someone say "dm" and then some noob told her "dm" was "death marching" Please read the full article. A fellow player (a friend of Shiva's) has said to her about death marches. If you play rs and don't know what a deathmarch is then I don't know what to say. anyway, its been bothering me that she made no attempt to contact any of us and inform us of what she intended to do and why she was doing it. Am i the only one who is kinda po'ed about this? She approached tipit (Lightning) so that quotes could be used and to tell her that she was writing it, yes. I think it's an interesting read. Sepiroth23
Wow, amazing how much publicity this has managed to get. Just shows that a good person will be remembered. Slightly off topic but they mentioned my post in the memorial from Brisbane, Australia. Cool Nicely written though
reddawn509
dude that article was bueatiful..i dunno why i just liked it..i thought it was amazing a reporter actually joined runescape for the sake of a story..thats commitment...I deffinitly think we should contact Jagex and get them to make a statue in Siva's honor..although it might be corny it'd be a good reminder.....i sadly didnt know Shiva personally but he sounded great, I do not want his memory to fade away.. for some reason this death has shaken me more than a death in my own hometown :? Y2g2003
It was an interesting read, yes... but I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with some parts of the article. I mean... the way she described us, as a community, was a bit odd to me. I mean... some of the things she was saying... she acted as though we weren't humans. I don't see how the online reaction to Shiva's death was that surprising. It should be expected in my opinion. Shiva was a good person. Obviously anyone who knew of him and had a bond with him on a certain level would be somewhat disturbed after finding out that he passed away. And the circumstances of which make it all the more shocking, and thats not even factoring in his age (which is yet another overwhelming fact). In a way I liked the article... but in a way, I would've just rather it not have been done at all. Some of the things I liked about it... while most of it I just wasn't comfortable reading. Which probably explains why some feel like they want to flame the author of the article. I wouldn't ever stoop to that level, but hey... some people are just plain ignorant. That not excluding the author either. I think there was a great deal of ignorance on her part, but I think she did attempt to put it as delicately as possible. It just simply made me uncomfortable though. R.I.P Shiva

Am i the only one who is kinda po'ed about this? She contacted Lightning (who posted a tribute to Shiva to the funeral home's website) and the staff was fully made aware of her time here. The article would have had more TIF quotes if she had not been forced to finalize the article sooner than expected. Phil
I understand what you are saying Y2g2003. When I first heard about this article I hoped it wouldn't be some person trying to blame video games and online-communities for the death. I was glad to see it wasn't though. I can also see, as you said, she has tried to put it delicately.

Newptor
I think I should clarify some misconceptions. First of all, my opinion is that she did a respectful job with the article, which focused on Shiva, as it should have. She also did her best to describe a world she's not familiar with. Not many reporters or newspapers would have even made the attempt. This reporter did contact us, actually she contacted a T.E.T member, who passed it on to Light. After thoroughly checking her out to make sure she was legit, we did our best to put her in touch with any T.E.T members who would like to talk to her. It would have been next to impossble for us to determine who actually knew Shiva best beyond that, but after any possible interviews with T.E.T. (whom she approached,) we would have done our best to help her find those closest to him. To the extent that any of that didn't happen, you can blame me. Please don't blame her. If any Tip.it member would like to contact her, her name, phone number and email is at the bottom of her article. Quote Rule #1 clearly states, "Do NOT confuse Newpy!" Only 19 years to get to level 99 in something. Mining, check. Moving right along ... Catch me if you can! 🤣 Always buying silver ore at above GE prices! Oergg
I mean... the way she described us, as a community, was a bit odd to me. I mean... some of the things she was saying... she acted as though we weren't humans. well she had to give some context about the time ov game he played, i thought the article was really well done, ive recently got into fan cultural studies, and im just about to GET OUT ov it, because so many authors have an elitist view that 'were' us and 'theyre' them, its like with anthropology basiclaly, infact they refer to it as culteral anthropology:P so ya, i thought overall she wrote a very well done POSITIVE article, unfortunately i dont know anyone at the post gazette to throw a thank you letter on her desk, but ill send her an email thanking her
