Immigration

Alrighty. I usually don't like making topics, but I was reading this newspaper article describing what the United States is planning to do to re-do the way they do immigration.

So far, this is what I have figured out.

1. Fences and border cameras along the Mexico-US border, perhaps along the Canadian one as well.

2. Tougher punishments for companies that hire illegal aliens.

3. Requirements for companies to make sure they don't hire illegal aliens.

Anything I'm missing? What's your view?

BTW, please, please, please state why you believe what you believe. Don't say "yes". That's really lame.

Thanks so much.

I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. Lol both are nonexistant in the top 25. Hopefully I can change that. :D

Immigration and border patrol are pretty big here, 1/3 of all aprehensions in the United States are made in the Tucson Sector (where I live). I'm all for a secure border and everything, but I also think this country needs to reform it's immigration laws (laxing it a little bit), and not just enforcing them more.

I can't really be specific though, it's something I really don't know a lot about. All I really hear are the thousands dieing in the deserts to get here on the news, the hicks that wear border patrol hats at school, and the hardcore mexicans-americans that are completely against it.

Edit: However, as for illegal immigration, that im pretty much completely against. The US is having enough problems with dealing with it's own citizen's welfare, healthcare, and employement, and it doesn't need to support people that aren't contributing to the economy and paying taxes (bah, but that's an issue with lazy americans too).

Open immigration ftw.

So everyone can come take jobs and up the unemployment rate in the US?

I agree, you can't have open immigration because it will take away jobs from citizens. But you also want to allow legal immigrants in because they can help the economy too. There should be a balance.

Unemployment is hardly affected by immigration. And it actually helps the economy more than it hurts.

Plus they are better able to provide for their families, which is always a plus.

Please, I would like to know you source(s).

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

With open immigration unemployment would surley be affected.

The more people=less jobs

kind of obvious

First off, how can you begin to believe that illegal immigration doesn't hurt the economy?

Second, sure they can provide for THEIR families, but in turn hurt the families of the citizens that they're taking jobs from.

Considering most of the people in America have immigrated from somewhere I think that uninployment is a big problem. When I say immigrated I mean has over half of their family from somewhere else like Europe.

Personaly I only have 5 requirement for entering the U.S.A..

1. Dont kill us.

2. Dont be running from someone.

3. Know English and Speak it, dont care if your good or not just do.

4. Get a job and dont live off our taxes.

5. Dont break the law because you will violate rule 4!

You follow these rules then I will be happy for you to enter.

Please tell me how my tax dollars paying for emergency room visits and free health care for illegal immigrants is beneficial.

I say if they want to come in, come in legal. I don't like George W. Bush, thats about the only thing I agree with him on. They're using our tax payers money because alot of them will come over here and start getting pregnant and using Welfare and Food Stamps... :(

Ill just take a paragraph from my party's website to answer this flood of questions.

Indeed, most studies show that immigrants actually lead to an increase in the number of jobs available. Immigrants produce jobs in several ways: 1) They expand the demand for goods and services through their own consumption; 2) They bring savings with them that contribute to overall investment and productivity; 3) They are more highly entrepreneurial than native-born Americans and create jobs through the businesses they start; 4) They fill gaps in the low and high ends of the labor markets, producing subsidiary jobs for American workers; 5) Low-wage immigrants may enable threatened American businesses to survive competition from low-wage businesses abroad; and 6) They contribute to increased economic efficiencies through economies of scale.

Never cite sources from a political party's website. That's just ridiculous.

That's the fault of the system rather than the immigrant.

I'm all for open immigration. The money our governments currently spend on border protection could pay for all the healthcare any immigrants required and still have billions left over.

At any rate, what gives anyone the right to tell another person where they can and can not live outside of property they themselves own? While I fully support your right to invite whomever and only whomever you choose into your house, you have no right to say who can go where outside of that.

That might have sounded cool in the 90's and all, but I don't think that'll work after things like 9/11. Kinda showed that the US has to be carefull who's allowed in, what rights they have, etc. Sure, the vast majority of illegal immigrants have no intention but to work for a few bucks a day, sell drugs, and squelch up our tax dollars, but we've still got to be careful for illegals with criminal intent.

im all for completely open immigration. the problems with immigration are them using up free health care and getting all these benefits from the government which is paid for by the legal citizens. i dont beleive in any of that stuff for legal citizens either. a person is a person, wether or not they are from another country doesnt make a difference.

Its in levels.

I own my house and therefore I can invite who I want on my property.

The government owns the countries land and so the government can invite who they want on their property.

Man... the terrorists who hit you on 11/9 flew into your country business class, not jumped in over a fence. Your argument doesn't make any sense.

There have been, since then, several terrorists and members of al-Qaeda captured by crossing the mexican border.

Maybe I should've been more clear? They came into the country, took flying lessons, enjoyed flying in our airlines, etc. My point that I was trying to make was that we've got to be more carefull who gets Visas, Green cards and the like, or else people like them will do whatever they want.

And yes, my arguement does make sense if you'd include the rest of what I said. Lax laws on illegal immigration allow for drug smuggling, deaths at the border in the hands of Coyotes, and the unlawfull hiring of illegal immigrants for cheap labor.

i think it should be implemented.. why...

because im racist, and i dont like mexicans around here stealing jobs and ruining our community..

At least you're honest about it, unlike the other people who've posted in favour of it on this thread.

Undocumented immigrants enter the country illegally because they cannot financially afford and/or are not educationally qualified to register for US work/extended stay/education programs.

They are not "living on" our taxes.

They all pay sales taxes, property taxes (directly or through landlords), gasoline taxes, and so on.

Medicare, social security, health insurance, etc. are not open to illegal immigrants.

There are, obviously, more legal immigrants in America than illegal immigrants (you know that, don't you?). The majority of the "low wage job-takers" have legal visas/stay permits. Do you want them out too?

I don't know why you people keep complaining about "free emergency room visits." There is no such thing as a "free visit" to the hospital for anyone, let alone an illegal immigrant.
