Warhammer 40k anyone? (a good hobby) pics in side

Warhammer 40,000 brings the war-torn universe of the 41st Millennium onto your tabletop - the ceaseless din of gunfire, thunderous explosions, the rumble of passing tanks and the high-pitched whining of anti-gravitic motors screaming overhead. You are in command of squad after squad of battle-hardened warriors, futuristic vehicles and devastating artillery. In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war!

well that's what warhammer 40k. You choose an army, collect them, build them, paint them, then duke it out with outer people. The minertures (sp?) come in many shapes and sizes, hailing from the Gigantic Monolith, to the tiny scarabs. All collectabla and painatable.

The races inclued-

-Eldar

The Eldar are an incredibly ancient race who once ruled a vast empire that spanned the galaxy. Then came the hideous times of the Fall, when the Eldar were consumed by their own decadence and fell from power. The few who survived were scattered across the stars, though they still held claim to a heritage of great wisdom and advanced technology. Only a fool would think the Eldar can be beaten easily. The old idiom exists for a reason: "A cornered animal fights twice as hard."

-Dark Eldar

The Dark Eldar inhabit a realm called Commorragh, a place as darkly twisted as its rulers. From this lair they launch piratical raids across the length and breadth of the Warhammer 40,000 galaxy. The purpose of these raids is not to conquer planets or protect territory, but to cause mayhem, steal, pillage, and ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ most important of all ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ capture new victims to be taken back to Commorragh. What happens to these captives once they are in the cruel clutches of the Dark Eldar is best not considered.

-Necrons

The Necrons are a mysterious race of skeletal warriors that have lain dormant in their stasis-tombs for millions of years. They are ancient beyond reckoning, pre-dating even the Eldar. Yet, they are beginning to awaken, for the galaxy is ripe for harvest.

In combat, the Necrons are unyielding war-machines that bring swift death to their prey. Armed with Gauss weapons that strip an opponent's molecules one layer at a time, the Necrons have fierce firepower. Also, the Necrons have a remarkable ability to repair themselves, making them an enemy dreaded by all races in the 41st Millennium.

Space Marines are the most powerful and dreaded of all the human warriors in the galaxy. They are not human at all, but superhuman, having been made superior, in all respects, to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigorous training. Being few in number compared to the uncounted billions of humanity, Space Marines are organized into small independent armies called Chapters. Their unswerving loyalty is to the Emperor of Mankind, their Chapter second, and no other.

-Chaos Space Marines

Ten thousand years ago during the Horus Heresy, fully half of the Space Marines renounced their allegiance to the Emperor. These Traitor Marines had become Chaos Space Marines, despised and feared as traitors and heretics throughout the galaxy. They fight on, unrepentant of the choices they have made. The Chaos Space Marines will wage war without end until the Emperor is cast down and the Chaos Gods rule over a burning galaxy.

-Daemonhunters

The greatest threat to the Imperium of Man is, and always has been, the followers of Chaos and the foul daemons of the Warp. The Inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus are at war with forces too terrible to comprehend and, together with the holy warriors of the Grey Knights, they must take the light of the Emperor into the darkness. The threat of the daemonic is so great that only these heroic warriors have the necessary skills and knowledge to stand against such diabolical foes.

-Imperial Gaurds

The Imperial Guard is the largest and most diverse organisation the galaxy has ever seen. It contains billions of men from a million different worlds. Half-feral savages march alongside former hive plant workers. Men whose home was blistering desert, tropical jungle, icy steppe or desolate moorland are united under the banner of the Imperium of Man. The entire diversity of the massive Imperium is encapsulated in its ranks.

-Orks

Orks are the most widespread and warlike race of aliens in the bloodstained galaxy of the 41st millennium. From the depths of the galactic core to the distant ghost stars beyond the rim, burgeoning Ork empires rise and fall. In terms of sheer numbers and planets, Orks occupy more of the galaxy than any other single race and were they unified, the Orks would soon crush all opposition. However, the Orks' passion for violence is so unquenchable that they spend most of their time warring amongst themselves, and any Ork leader worth his followers' respect would never dream of voluntarily following another.

-Tyranids

The Tyranids are without doubt the most alien race encountered by humanity. They have been likened to a galactic locust swarm, remorselessly hungry and too numerous to stop. Tyranids are a nomadic, space-dwelling race that has migrated from beyond our galaxy in search of new resources to consume. They have discovered sustenance in abundance in the Imperium of Man and the assorted alien races now in their path. Tyranids only descend onto planets to totally strip them of bio-mass before moving on, leaving nothing but balls of scoured rock in their wake.

-Witch Hunters

Deep within the dark underbelly of the Imperium lies a festering rot that threatens Humanity's very survival. The rogue psyker, the mutant, and the heretic gnaw away at the foundations of society, a subtle threat that demands a sinister response. The Inquisitors of the Ordo Hereticus provide just such a response, purging these foul corrupters of the Emperor's Light with bolter and flame. Known as the Witch Hunters, they command the full might of the Imperium ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ especially the Sisters of Battle. This unchecked power along with their unyielding suspicion make the Witch Hunters among the most feared agents in the Imperium.

A very expensive hobby would probably be a more accurate title ;) I had a friend who played this for a while, then he realised nobody else anywhere near him played it as well. What a waste :(

Its not that expensive if u buy from ebay. tell your friend to go to games workshop, tons of people play there.

I've never play these tabletop games, but I heard it was quite expensive to get anything decent to play against other people.

image1ne5.png

Expensive? Yes.

Fun? HELL YES.

My friend has an enormous space marine army, a tau army, tyranid, and necron army. Its not quite fun when he uses the necron army with a C'Tan, however. Those things are MEAN.

I played this once when I was 12... I collected them Space Marine fellows. Incredibly expensive hobby. As far as I know my models are still collecting dust in some box out in the garage. 8)

Haven't played them in quite a while, only have a small army and it's packed away somewhere. It's Eldar, craftworld Iyanden. From the top of my head:

HQ: Seer council (Two farseers, three warlocks)

Troops 1: 4 Wraithguard, 1 spiritseer

Troops 2: 4 Wraithguard, 1 spiritseer

Troops 3: 1 Wraithlord

Fast attack: 2 Vypers

Elites: 4 Howling Banshees, 1 Howling Banshees exarch

Heavy Support: 4 Dark Reapers, 1 Dark Reaper exarch

So yeah, no plastic for me :P (except for the Vypers, but they were birthday gifts)

I have some friends and a brother-in-law who does this, but it never really interested me much.

Classic old school wargaming, though.

im glad to see that theres many people on tip it that know about it. :D

My buddy used to have an old ping-pong table that his dad converted into terrain for these things. He and his father used to collect them and go to tournaments.

Every time we slept over there I used to grab the Warhammer "Bible" they had and would read it. The artwork inside was fantastic.

I know the price. I pay it gladly.

At the gaming store i go to people play 40k every day any day when its open. Ive never tried to play it, but who says im not up for learning it heh, i might try to learn it and not spend a crapton of money on it.
