April 22, 200620 yr Well hey tipiters! Im sorry I didnt update post sooner. I got back last week but Ive been awfully busy and still travelling (nearby this time though). Went to visit Camp Nou (OMG so amazing). Its barcelona's soccer stadium were ronaldihno plays :). Obviously some shopping, some looking for hot european chicks ;) and that's about it. I will obviosuly continue helping those with diabetes with less opportunities in my country. Thanks to all of you who posted here in my thread, specially to all my friends and those who have pmed me with nice things :) For those of you tipiters with diabetes, if you ever need any help on any diabets related issue feel free to pm me here or in game, i will happily answer with my knowledge. And if you just need someone to talk, im always here ;) Tipiters, nice as always, once and again, thanks for all the comments! Hello well Im lucasesco and I'm 15. Some of you know me in game, some because of the pinp sig :P anyways here I am. I was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus when I was 8 years old and seven years have gone by and I keep living with this disease you don't want to get. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a disease where your pancreas doesn't work and I have to take shots all day when I eat and stuff. I live in a country with a horrible reputation in South America but just to let you know, CNN and some crazy american news things have to be filtered since they make us look like trash. Anyways many people in my country (lets focus on kids) and the majority of them barely have economical opportunities to even eat descently. Diabetes is a disease where you need to have some economical source to get supplis for insulin and testing sugars. In the US insurance covers everything. Here insurance covers.. hmmm.. nothing? Me and my family realized the terrrible situation this was for these kids with less opportunities so along with a partner family we created and foundation to supply the more need with information about the disease and supplies to manage it. Many of the supplies were thanks to a foundations in the US who we go to their events every summer. It has been very rewarding to share experiences with these kids and see their progress of the management of their disease and how grateful they feel for our help. Next week, I'll be travelling again to Italy with two other amercian friends from the US diabetes foundation. We are International Diabetes Youth Ambassadors and I will give a small conference of the work I've accomplished here in my country. I wanted to share this with the tip.it community and thanks for reading the whole thing. If you wanna see my small conference feel free to pm me ill send it. Thanks for you time, lucasesco After that ill chill around italy and spain for some good days before coming back 8) Btw.. I have diabetes too :? April 22, 200620 yr It's nice what you are doing for the kids. It's good that you are helping them handle their disease. Maybe you could get more help and help children all over the world? :)
April 22, 200620 yr I have a nine year-old brother who was diagnosed with type-one Diabetes a year ago. It sucks, alot. Luckily we live in Canada and all of his medical expenses are covered by my Father's insurance. I understand how hard it must be for people who do not have that luxury. I know the price. I pay it gladly.
April 22, 200620 yr Diabetes took my mom 13 years ago. It also killed my brother 21 years ago and nearly killed me 20 years ago. I feel for you. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

April 22, 200620 yr Bari, how old are you? There is a girl ive been going to school with all along who has diabetes. She had to go to her locker every 2nd period to get a snack. I still remember one time her blood was so high, or so low, i wouldnt know the difference, but she had to rush out of the room and go to the cafateria.

Omg.. so many sad stories... yeah diabetes is crazy.. but neways somebody feel like congratulating me for goint to italy to give a conference :( I don't have it, fortunately. Fortunately, it was a type of adult onset diabetes that is not transferred genetically (I hope). I still get myself tested, but have shown no signs. The death of my brother and my near fatal birth were results of birth complications, not the actual disease. And I am 20 years old, so I still have 20 years to go before I can rest easy. April 22, 200620 yr Whao, so your parents almost lost both of their children in consecutive years. Yep. I spent 6 weeks in ICU with a pacemaker as an INFANT. Beyond that I have had a pretty healthy life. I am pretty healthy (I have to be, in case) but I could stand to get in shape. I plan to be healthier than most people my age for most of my life. April 22, 200620 yr Luca what you are doing is amazing,, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a hug .I know first hand what this disease can do to oneself , Being a nurse I have seen many children suffer because of this, but here in the States most of them have insurance, the cost for diabetic supplys is very very expensive . So glad to see you helping out such a great foundation. Sorry to hear about you having the disease I wish nothing but the best for you . :) Any words spelled wrong here forgive me it is late and I am tired... btw glad to have met you at the new mini game, gawd that is so addictive,,,, ha ha

April 22, 200620 yr Good luck, sounds like you're doing a good thing! Like what happens when your blood sugar gets to low? How do you tell? I think you "faint". For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.
April 22, 200620 yr Like what happens when your blood sugar gets to low? How do you tell? It starts to wreak havoc on your body. It's also bad if your body produces too much insulin (they are opposites). You test your blood sugar with a machine that takes a blood sample. It's that little thing that you [puncture] your finger on. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. April 22, 200620 yr Author For me it's too difficult to generalize the feeling of "what happens when its low/high". Of course there are general symptoms for both of them but I think every person is different and has different perception. After 1 month of having diabetes I started to know when I was high or low because of how I felt. Being low for me is horrible. I get cold, sweaty, think stupidly and desperately, and have a feeling of going to faint. The only time you actually faint its when it gets TOO low. That has never happen to me since you have a descent amount of time on which you can react and eat sugar. This mainly happens when people don't know when they're low or sugar "feels low" or the ones who don't wake up when they're low. April 22, 200620 yr BUMP! :P Take it easy. Exclusive Legacy Mode Player He just successfully trolled you with "courtesy" and managed to get a reaction out of you. Lol
April 22, 200620 yr Just to let you know. Your a great guy, and Italy rocks. Have fun, you deserve it :) With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
April 22, 200620 yr It sucks to hear that you have diabetes. My family and I used to live with grandmother who is diabetic, so I have a tiny idea of what it's like, not very nice at all. Hope you have fun in Italy though. I've heard it is a very nice country. :D
April 23, 200620 yr Bravo to you and your family for helping out. In America people w diabetes have all the care they need and are able to live productive and normal lives. I won't feel bad for being an American. I am glad to live in a place with good health care an oppurtunities for all. What you are doing is great and I hope you enjoy your trip to Italia.
