Heaviest thing you've heard that you've actually liked?

I realised something about heavy music. I can take it till they start doing funny voices (screaming / falsitto by men). I realised this when my friend was trying to get me into black metal. It's just not for me. I prefere a song to mean something rather than just be noise. Dragonforce still winning this contest for me by the way.

When I first heard Dimmu Borgir, their music seemed like sounds from hell. You might understand some words of their songs, but there are always disturbing sounds "disturbing" you to actually listen to the lyrics. Don't really like black metal, so I only listen to DB when there is a need to do so.

Now the second shock I got from a metal band was from hearing Dragonforce. This must be the speediest power metal band, at least from what I have heard. At first I didn't quite like them, but once you listen through an album or two, you become to understand that the lyrics are good, the lead voice is great and the intrumental part is just awesome. Still, there's one flaw - their songs seem too similar. In a silly way, this flaw reminds me of The Darkness (the same song, just different lyrics).

Cool story, this girl in my speech glass brought in some stuff for a speech that i'd never heard before. It was a band called Atreyu. Anyways, I'm not into heavey metal or w/e, and this girl was a bit hardcore. Long story short i really liked their music and it's probably the heaviest stuff i listen too.

I'm still looking around for "heavier" bands, but I am a huge metal head so i'm always expanding what I listen to.

Anyways... the heaviest thing i've heard so far might have to be Gorogoth. However, I would have to say the heaviest band that I (realy like) so far is Cryptopsy. Some of their songs are great.

Also, Burzum is a great band. They have some heavy songs, but than he also has some keyboard instrumentals. At least, I have one of his (name escapes me atm) that is a 10min keyboard instrumental. It's a realy good song, it's not heavy at all though, just creepy.

But back on track, I'd have to go with cryptopsy for what I like in heavy music. However, I could also go with some other stuff as well.

Cryptopsy is a wonderful band, their drummer is certainly something special, what with his one handed drum rolls

Yeah their drummer is great, one of the reasons why I like the band so much.

Cannibal Corpse - They are almost as heavy as it gets. They did a cover of Black Sabbath's Zero the Hero and made them look like helium.

I'll listen to as heavy as it goes. Honestly I just can't find any heavier than Cannibal Corpse. Six Feet Under has a former Cannibal Corpse member, but then again Corpsegrinder is just as good IMO.
