June 14, 200620 yr It seems to me that technology doesn't grow that fast when there isn't a pressing need for it. I mean in the 50's to early 90's everyone imagined the year 2000+ so differently than it was, with flying cars and hoverboards. Where are our flying cars we've been promised so long ago?! :( So yeah, unless there's a pressing need, I don't see it happening that fast. The only concerned people working on it are the scientists, and they're not getting enough backing up from governments for such huge projects to work as fast as promised.

The reason we worked so fast in the 60's to get to the moon is because that was what John F. Kennedy wanted and after he died, the government kind of pressed towards going to the moon. After we made it to the moon, there weren't many more amazing things that happened. We did get computers though.
June 14, 200620 yr I think I know what to do with the immigrants  be careful my friend... the ice is thin
June 14, 200620 yr i got a beeter question, how long till we are abe to make universes in our basment? (truth be told, there are almost an inf ammount of paralel universes, and M theroy proves it to the poit that if its true than there are no questions about the univers that have not been answered) sry this was a little of topic... back to your posts
June 14, 200620 yr Theres some really great pages on Wikipedia about terroforming, very interesting reads if peopel want to have a look there. If you just ignore that fact right now that we cant yet do this and imagine we can. What are the ethical issues about terrorforming another planet such as Mars. Mars may once have had, and may even still have deep underground, mibrobial and possibly other organic life. What right do we have to take over that planet and probabably kill all traces of Martian life in the process of turning it into Earth II? June 14, 200620 yr Who knows, we might already have humans living on mars or elsewhere... Sorry to bring up all that conspiracy **** but... Is it not possible that our government has or currently is sending human beings to other planets in search of a hospitable environment? Or perhaps establishing diplomacy between extraterrestrials living in other galaxies? Someone here has got to have heard the stories about moon bases or the Apollo 17 Ufo sightings? @ Merciful I don't think ethics enters into it when we are talking about the survival of our own species. Would you be worried about killing a few microscopic organisms if it meant saving your own life? Kill corporate radio. http://www.killradio.org
June 14, 200620 yr Except they arnt just microbes, there are extraterrestrial life which has evolved completely independantly of earths influence. While not little green men, they are 100% alien life forms, albeit microbial. p.s can we please leave out the conspiracy theory rubbish please? thanks. June 14, 200620 yr Why don't we just wipe off the two greatest population in the face of the earth.. that would free about what.. 2-3 billion? I kid.. I kid... I think I know what to do with the immigrants  That's funny seeing as everyone can count as immigrants :P Personally, no I wouldn't want to leave earth. I'm happy here and seriously, I haven't even gone to 1/2 of the greatest destinations of our planet, why would I want to visit another? Except they arnt just microbes, there are extraterrestrial life which has evolved completely independantly of earths influence. While not little green men, they are 100% alien life forms, albeit microbial. p.s can we please leave out the conspiracy theory rubbish please? thanks. Humans have wiped out a huge number of species in this planet, what stops us from doing so in another? :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::

We have to solve our own problems before we cause more destruction to other planets. The way things are going now in the world, I think the damage is already done. We may have no choice but to abandon earth some day. Kill corporate radio. http://www.killradio.org
June 14, 200620 yr I don't know Merc, i mean if they were intelligent little green men who had a colony up there then it wouldn't be the same, but if they are just primitive forms of life clinging on to the last few remenants of life that they have, I wouldn't have a problem with taking over their colony. I mean, i don't see how ethics can come into it when we as a species kill billions of little microbes on our planet each day, what's the difference up there? June 15, 200620 yr I watched a documentary on Comcast On Demand, its in the science section somehwere. They talked about so many things because the trip to another planet would take over 75,000 years. Would we be able to reproduce in space? When we land our new planet, how would gravity affect us after being born in space with 0 gravity? We would need to figure out a system to make a civilization on the spaceship becuase the trip would go through so many generations of families. Can we produce our own gravitational system during the trip? Stuff like that..it was reealy interesting
June 15, 200620 yr I really, really, hope I die before it comes to it. But I guess I won't have any kids, cause I don't want them not to be able to walk outside, climb a tree, chase a squirrel.
June 15, 200620 yr I really, really, hope I die before it comes to it. But I guess I won't have any kids, cause I don't want them not to be able to walk outside, climb a tree, chase a squirrel. I'm as opposite as you can get to that ideology. I want to live long and see all the technology that comes out - I hope in my lifetime there will be things leaps and bounds ahead of what we have now. @Merc, I think if we think that way for everything, we won't get anywhere really. In most situations there are tons of 'what-if's,' and dwelling over every possible whatif just halts progress. I think we could coexist with underground bacteria anyways. Sure after the first discovery they would be treated like little bacterigods, researching every little detail about them, but after we see everything it's not as if the bacteria on mars would be any more special than bacteria on earth.
June 16, 200620 yr i think it is quite possible i think scientists will make some huge advancement in technology and will learn how to make a planet inhabitable. theory: the chinese will inhabit mars so then they can have all the children they want! - no offence intended the moon tho, why the moon i mean the moon would provide space but without earth how is the moon sposed to get supplies, unless they get plants and gravity on the moon ... i finally quit runescape to play world of warcraft. i play on frostmourne, alliancecheck out my threadhttp://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=479665&highlight=

You assume the earth will be gone while we inhabit the moon. I think the moon will be the first step, and will rely on earth no matter what, and only other planets will be self sufficient and not need earth.
June 16, 200620 yr Actually Mars would be much easier to colonise than the Moon. Theres a great article on Moon terrerformation on wikipedia. June 16, 200620 yr Author http://www.xprizefoundation.com/index.asp This is the future of space flight. Governments will not be needed any more, and with private organizations running the space flight, it will solve many of the worst problems, like taking the government's focus away from battling poverty, red tape, monetary backing, etc. Just make something profitable, and it will grow. Look at Microsoft; they made computers profitable, and the computing industry grew like nobody could imagine. I got to see one of the winners of this prize launch for the first time from Mohave, CA, the first inland, privately run spaceport :-) It was unbelieveably cool. When you are learning, you are growing. If you stop learning, you stop growing. If you stop growing, you die. Train hard, eat fried chicken, and take a one-a-day. (And cook that broccoli 'til it's yella and pour cheese all over it)
June 16, 200620 yr Although it would be crappy, no gravity, have to hold stuff while walking, er, I mean floating from place to place. the moon has gravity. its like 60% of the earths or something like that. when you are in space between the moon and the earth there is a very weak gravitational pull, so it seems to be no gravity. Opps, I was thinking of a space station  I think I know what to do with the immigrants  That wasn't even funny. June 18, 200620 yr I wonder what he means by a base and colony - especially colony. Because there's no way in 40 years we find a way to heat up Mars and make the atmosphere livable for humans (same for moon as well, I guess). So what are we talking about? Building a building there that is similar to our spacesuits so that astranauts can stay up there longer? Would a colony just be a building stocked with lots and lots of food so people stay there for virtually forever? we need lots of space ships to get supplies from earth to the moon/Mars and it would actually be easier to build something up where there's less gravity (Moon) so on the moon it'd probably be big glass domes to keep people warm, like a greenhouse, they then fill the glass domes full of air, then make a massive airlock for ships to pass through and drop off the supplies, from there we make houses, mall's, grannys, and discover life and we'll call them moonlings and they'll be our slaves =D
June 18, 200620 yr and discover life and we'll call them moonlings and they'll be our slaves =D Omg, I want one.
