rkc98446
seriously, when i read about people getting hacked and lose their items to hackers. i have a question concerning it: is it possible to just "HACK" an rs account out of the blue? i do everything i can to prevent situations like these, my pass changed weekly, i have recovery questions, i have pin(s), heck i don't even share my pass to anyone. and for added security, i don't even play on the library computers, on my laptop and ONLY on my laptop. but even doing all this precaution, is it still possible to hack an account out of the blue? 00 Quanta
if u don't have any anti-virus programs, u have a chance of getting hacked because your comp isn't well protected from trojanns, spyware etc.
rkc98446
i have ad ware and norton on everytime....i check every 12 hrs. when i say hack, i'm talking about movies like swordfish where people can hack their prey out of the blue, without loggers or anything. Adam007
You're not going to get hacked through people directly trying to target you. Just stay away from all links runescape related that you're unsure of and don't accept any files from anyone and there's virtually no chance of you getting hacked, assuming your password isn't guessable. Directly to your question, I suppose if a professional wanted to hack your account he/she could, but they have better things to do with their time. :P

That's a basic summary of what I do and I have not been hacked yet in over four years on this game. ;) Just takes a lot of common sense and a little security. ikzelf100
if it is someone else from the otherside of the globe hacking you from cmopletely nothing that is impossible jagex uses linux and firefox at work only the programmers of linux are able to hac into it an outsider wouldt get far enough to change the tinyst bit
Kashi
It's a good thing you only play on your computer. My good friend had his account stolen by playing on a library computer. Somebody in the library observed him playing Runescape one day, and programmed a simple keylogger in visual basic, undetectable by virus scans. Everything typed into that computer was apparently e-mailed to the computer of the programmer. All he had to do was wait for my friend to use that computer again (and this friend I'm talking about played every day or every other day), and then sort through a jumbled mess of letters to find his password. It's rare, but things like that can happen. My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race. However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to. Linnux wont crash easily, but it's not hack-proof. (from what I've seen on world-wide gaming forums, in the Runescape sections, Linnux is the piece of lying cabbage that they ply to unsuspecting people, saying that only super intelligent hackers can hack it and omg I am one of those give me your stuff please.) My very own mother works for a software programming company which designs operating systems taylored to the needs of the companies using them. I.E. They're currently working on an operating system to help oil companies streamline the shipping process. I think it's BP specifically that hired them. But they've done some stuff for PC games before. Runescape wouldn't use Linnux and Firefox. They very likely have their own system that they run on, and then upload information to a private server. Saying that Jagex staff uses Linnux is like saying porn websites use Imageshack to upload a million illicit pictures a day. But like I said at the beginning .. who really knows? If my hunch is correct, than nobody short of a techno genius could hack into the password bank. Just be careful with your PIN and your recoveries and you're perfectly safe. *Very sorry, didn't realize I double posted. gspbeetle
there was a mod told that they use firefox at work in a private chat, it might not be true as it might just be a joke that jagex staff got it in their instinct though, jagex do use their own system, which they call it gowers code to script their game, announced during a job presentation Examine ChenGMT (level: 138)

The idea of people programming a game that makes millions of dollars a month using IE and Windows? Laughable! In fact, I think I will. Hahaha! :o Linux p00ns. Enough said.... Ash6110
Most times when you get hacked its indirectly. What im talking about is a trojan, keylogger, etc. You get these usually when your on a page that is a unsanctioned fansite or a site offering free hacks or free gold or macros. You cant prevent getting these by avoiding these sites. Also you may want to invest in Spybot Search and Destroy to catch these programs. Also norton can easily delete these http://www.draynor.net/code/bar/Noobin\Please join my very new up and coming forumshttp://s3.freepowerboards.com/runeboards Feel free to AIM or MSNM me anytime

cocacolabottle
I have AVG free virusscanner or something, and ocasionally there comes a pop-up that says: "VIRUS DETECTED - TROJANN xx" And it simply gets rid of it for me. I'm guessing this is so with most virusscanners, so I dont think you have anything to worry about. 99 Slayer since August 2007.

Priven
Most people who claim to get "hacked" actually havent gotten hacked at all. Chances are that one of their friends guessed the password because it was too easy, they gave the password out, or they used it on multiple sites and told their friend the password to another site which uses the same pass as runescape. Anyone who is actually capable and willing enough to hack most likely has better things to get passwords for than a runescape account, and if they did, it would be to zezimas or one of the top players. If hackers wanted a password, they would be smart to try and get your paypal pass if anything.
glasscube
Ill tell you this - ive never been hacked. Anti virus software? Dont believe in it. If your well educated you wont get 'hacked'. The only time ive been hacked was on diablo2, and that was because my 'friend' looked at the keyboard while I logged in. Besides, if I were a hacker, I dont think id target your account if I was to hack runescape. I'd rather hack into runescapes server and inject some code into their client through some way... To use as a command to say.. Get 'advantages' ... Then again, I feel guilt to easily. So if I were a hacker I wouldn't take advantage on players accounts. I once pked a abyss runecrafter.. I gave the stuff to some level 46 to feel better O:) ... Off topic A little :/ Help drive change Canada
andyrules89
Its not impossible thats for sure. Then again, hackers have something better to do with their time than trying to steal a few pixels like nkn1129 and rkc98446 said. Most of the time, people use "hacking" and "scamming" interchangably, like if they fall for the "runescape blocks ur pass ******!!!!!!" scam...they'll claim that they were hacked. dude i got pked and lost my full zezima
