Anyone know a good brand laptop with a built-in wireless connection?

I have an Alienware laptop. It has a built in wireless card (and graphics card) but if you put decent stuff into it, it'll run $1700+.

 

My parents usually buy whatever is on sale for $500-$700 at Bestbuy and they're not too bad, just not built for high end gaming.

I'd shop those brands if I was in the market. My hubby has a Dell for work and it has been very reliable.

HP & IBM/Lenovo make excellent quality machines, though you'll often pay more for them. Based on things I have seen I'd avoid Toshiba laptops and the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo series due to repeated failures I've witnessed in my friends machines.

 

 

 

If you want a machine to use whilst out and about, make sure it has a mobile processor - not a desktop one. Otherwise it will run out its battery in no time.

RS has very little demand on a comp. Those computers work fine..

Yeah. I bought a nice laptop because I like the high graphics games and I like to be able to take them with me. Otherwise if the computer is only going to be used for Runescape and lower graphics kinda stuff, then a laptop from Bestbuy or where ever should work fine.

you dont want to look at the brand. you want to look at 3 things size, battery life, and price.

 

 

 

If you spend any more then 1000 usd on a computer it will depreciate faster then a brand new car. If you don't believe me tell me so and I'll put together a little something something for you.

 

 

 

Battery life, if your battery dosn't last for the garanteed 2 hours, its going to bother you for the rest of your life. Trust me. Its all my rents talk about.

 

 

 

And lastly but most important. Size, my sister has a huge HP I have a small gateway. She complains about her back, and I carry around my 5 lb notebook like its a 5lb notebook.

 

 

 

dont get hp, the power plug-in design is the worst of any notebook. It wears out in a matter of a year or 2.

 

 

 

Gateways, dells, and hps are the 3 brands of notebooks ive had personal experince with. Get the gateway. I wouldn't get a dell/hp if my life depended on it.

 

 

 

now ive heard alot of good things about toshiba satelites. so i would either recomend that or a gateway.

You say not to look at the brand... and then to look at the brand? Make your mind up.

 

 

 

It is important to look at the brand because certain brands have certain problems; namely the Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo series having severe overheating problems, the newer MacBooks having overheating problems and so on.

My Dell Inspiron 8200 has served me well for roughly 3 years , and it gets used WAY more then my desktop . So not getting a dell "if your life depended on it", is probably going to cost you a life :P

Really? That surprises me. Kinda turns my world upside down. I guess dells wouldn't be bad if you were looking for a good deal, sometimes they have deals were their notebooks are like 500 usd cheaper (or something like that). But I still wouldn't get one if my life depened on it.

 

 

 

The question is, why do you want a notebook? I bought one because one summer I was traveling alot and wanted to stay in touch with my friends. My personal choice is a desktop just because you can build them your self and they have urber deals.

I want to get a new Laptop, because the laptop i currently use isn't working well enough it's been through alot with the hard drive by crashing alot :| also im going to use this going for School, traveling with it and playing games on it.

What kind of games are you planning on playing on it? If you're planning on games like Oblivion, Everquest II, Darkfall (when it's released) then you're going to have to find a laptop that has a graphics card in it. Bestbuy sometimes carries gaming laptops but not often.

 

 

 

If you're looking at playing low end games like Runescape and such then you can get a pretty nice computer for under $1000. Go check out bestbuy.com, dell.com, ect.

I am typing this on a $700 gateway as I speak, The keyboard isa bit cheap but other then that I live it, it is small, you can get good battery life out of it and I love the widescreen for watching Lost ^_^

I always recommend the Dell Inspiron 700m for students. it's the one that I have. I'm sure you're not going to want to lug around a large laptop -- it's only 4lb, which is very light. It's overall an okay computer; it's not exactly a great gaming computer (64mb onboard video), but it can play basic games like Runescape. Now if you're looking into newer games like Battlefield or Oblivion.. this laptop won't do. :P

 

 

 

But it is light, which is probably the best part about it. Speedwise I'm sure you could find a better laptop, but as a student, I rather not be lugging a heavy backpack around campus! :P

The standard battery is 2.5 hours (4 cell), but you can get the 8 cell for 5 hours. I think the 8 cell one adds 1lb more to the laptop, but that's all I heard.

Psst, one thing. DELL bought AlienWare around 2 months ago.

 

 

 

Even then, AW highly-overprice there products too.

I won't buy an Alienware computer again. I did some research and found out they make TONS of money off the computers they sell. Next time I buy a computer I'll buy a laptop for college or if I decide to go gaming again I'll built my own pc and save lots of money. DO NOT BUY ALEINWARE (unless you don't mind overpaying)
