World War III?

I don't think this conflict will escalate that much. If any big players (US, Britain) jump in, it's not like other big players will jump in on the other side and cause a true world war. It could get really messy and expensive if enough muslim countries gang up on Israel, but I don't think it will be the spark for WWIII.

Actually, Russia and China are both very interested in oil, especially since China is booming right now. They might consider it worth their interests, if you get what I mean. Plus, the Koreas have been exchanging fire with China backing NK and USA backing SK. China also wants to obliterate Taiwan so if they think the US is far too spread, they might just go for it. Especially with the element of surprise.

In addition, the entire Middle East is being drawn into this war with sides being picked extremely quickly. Egypt tried to be neutral but it's gained so many enemies because of that, I seriously doubt they'll stay that way.

Then there's India and Pakistan. For one thing, they absolutely hate each other due to conflicting religions (Hindu v. Muslim). Secondly, they both have nuclear weapons. Thirdly, Pakistan feels left out because India keeps getting favors (from the US and Europe) towards their weapons and energy technology.

IO'm not trying to be a doomsdayer by any means, but I don't want people to think the world's a happy-go-lucky place. Peace is not the absence of war. Peace is the absence of VISIBLE war. The peaceful times in the world always occurred where war was just under the surface trying to break free.

We'll see what happens in the Senate elections.

so according to you itll be like

U.S. ALLLL the middle East

Israel Russia

Europe vs. China

South Korea North korea

India (sort of) Pakistan

other nations

something along the lines of that...unlikely

nk vs usa is most probably with other nations jumping in

Some people (like me) don't support war, so why should we fight in it?

You should fight in war because:

1. Our forefathers fought for our current freedoms and we should fight to protect them.

2. It's your civic duty, whether or not you agree with it or not.

3. The Bible says we are to follow the government set over us unless it tells us to do something contrary to Scripture. The Bible is certainly not pacifistic.

4. The quickest route to domination by other countries is through pacifism. First off, if everyone were pacifists, they would keep "buying off" other countries until those countries got powerful enough to finally fight. When it reached that point, the pacifistic country is screwed. Then they get taken over because no one is willing to fight for something they believe in.

I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. Lol both are nonexistant in the top 25. Hopefully I can change that. :D

answers....

1. what if it isnt a war for freedom?(most times its just an excuse)

2. So its our duty to fight in something even though we dont believe in it?

3.waht if you arent christian? not all of us are christian. We all dont have to follow the Bible.

4. fighting for self-defense and freedom is different than fighting for domination and resources

1. We aren't fighting for our freedom. If we were, noone would have any problem with a war. Infact, I'm sure people would be glad to ship out and kick some [wagon].

2. Okay.

3. Pretty sure the Bible wouldn't agree with killing tens of thousands of innocent people, even if it isn't pacifistic, I'm 100% sure killing innocents is a damnable sin.

4. Okay.

Well, the conflict in the middle-east has been on-off for decades and some.

I really don't see another world-war escalating from that.

The only sure-fire catalyst for another world-war would be America trying to bite off more than it can chew, like invading China or Russia.

Like I said, something stupid :P

well in this day and age i feel most of the leading (biggest) nations in the world understand the consequences of going to war with another leading nation. china and russia also know they could not win a war and the us alike.

1. If you're not American, I don't understand why you joined the conversation. But oh well.

2. The government calls you to do many things: obey laws, pay taxes, fight when asked to. How is it NOT a civic duty? Maybe I'm just confused somewhere.

3. What?? Not everyone believes the Bible? No, uh. You must be kidding me. [/sarcasm]. I only brought up the Bible because I believe the Bible to be true and to be the guidebook for my life. Therefore, if I hold it in such high regard, it had better have remarks about war and peace. I did it for myself and fellow Christians.

4. You care to debate me in pacifism? I'd love to hear your side. :)

2. If the government told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it? Plus, I wouldnt fight for a cause that isn't just. Its not fighting for freedom when there isn't anything preventing your freedom.

3. Ok.

FYI:

I do not think this is entirely a religious war... especially on the Israel side. I think that it's a property war on the other side (they want the land) and a defense war on the other side (they want to continue existing.)

I think war in general is handled pretty idiotically, and Israel needs to stop the hell killing civilians "accidentally". Yeah, accidentally my butt - the civilian death toll may not have been intentional, but it certainly could have been avoided with a little more care. Israel needs to take more precautions to only hit their target. Lebanon has been an innocent bystander, and has a right to be angry, and now Lebanese civilians are starting to be happy about the idea of going to war with Israel, because Israel has been idiotic towards them! In the end, Israel has only made problems worse! I believe in the Israeli state in theory, but the current Israeli government is far too conservative, war-hungry, and not compassionate - it's as bad as the American government atm.

I don't think this will escalate to World War III.

Hope not, since I'm going to Israel for two weeks in January, and it would be a shame to die and/or go to a country that no longer exists.

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Don't go to Israel, silly. That's asking for trouble. :P

I believe Israel's attack was warrented, but too extreme, and now they're just being over-zealous. If there are Hezbollah in civilian areas, you go in on foot. You don't drop bombs on the area... :uhh:

To pianofreak:

Fighting for Freedom is WAAAY different than fighting for power and goods.

Back in the colony days, Amercia was treated badly by Birtan (and all their other colonies), like taxes was a big part of it. They had to obey English laws, which some were annoying and bad. Then America wanted to stop being treated like dung. So they fought for their FREEDOM and won.

After England gave up on them, their territory from the Atlantic to the Mississippi, from Canda to Georgia. They could live peacrfully there for many centuries. But NO, then HAD to go west, get more land and power. Eventully they became the very thing the forfathers fought against. They had colony-like things (Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Philipines for a while) and spaned 1/3 of North America.

Right now, USA can live peacefully in the land they have. But NO, they HAD to go to the Middle East and get involved for people who aren't even thier citizens. (Bush's plan to "Free" Iraq) Now they're wasting troops and money on a ally which can take care pretty much themselves.

So, is there really something that we NEED to fight for freedom agianst? No, because its America that is the 1776's Britan.

And I've been looking forward to this trip for ages, I'm not going to cancel it now :D

read "The Third World War" by Humphrey Hawksley. It's extremely realistic and scary, and I think that if the current situation escalates much more, it could happen.
