The F2P Community

S11m

Recommended Posts

A few days ago i ran out of p2p on my main account so i started playing on my second user (newb one). I don't visit f2p very often, so it kinda suprises me how much better the f2p community has changed in my opinion. I haven't seen a single scammer in 5 days or so, no name calling etc...Only one guy called me a noob when i was in Hill Giants, cuz i killed my giant about 5 minutes oops: (my newb is lvl 22 8-) )

Well, i've seen a few beggars in lumby, but thats not what it used to be... Well, of course, if u go there in shiny p2p stuff, u get people following u, thats kinda obvious...

But what do you think about it?

Has is gotten better or worse?

Compared to when I first arrived on RuneScape, things have gotten far worse than what they were when I first got there. Among notes:

Scammers have continued to thrive, no matter what others do. Reports aren't managing to hold these people down.

Rune Ess has been changed, such that F2P can not trade properly with P2P anymore. This has killed part of the economy and devastated most F2P mages.

Macroers continue to drop in by the hundreds, if not thousands. Reports are barely fighting it, and are probably losing...

Swearing still rages on... And so do account trades and swaps... Reports seem to be ineffective.

...And these are only the most major of negative notes.

About the only positive note is that since the Stronghold update, Rangers have gotten one nice return boost and can at least live on iron arrows.

Anyone else want to add to this?

well here ill give u my perspective ive been around rs for about 4 years on different acount and have always been f2p. My current charater has only been around since nov 2005. f2p was never this bad 4 years ago it got progressivly worse until about a year ago when it finaly started getting better and still is slowly today. Scammers are far less common despite what my friend above me says. Scammers are much less comon now bacause people are overal smarter about checking the second trade screen. As for acount trading yes this is still a huge problem but some of us are trying to fighet them by reporting though i admit its not enough. Despite all this the major problem for f2p is AUTOERS they have ruind all ways for players to make money wood cutting but until jagex does somthing to stop them this will always be a problem.

I am refering to latest times. I was around at RSC times, approx. a year or so before RS2 came out, so i know it was better back then. A year ago the f2p was much more worse, scammers and beggars everywhere, following you etc.

PS: I found out that if you ask them nicely to go away, some even go!

I dunno too much about the Lumby area, since I never go there... but the F2P community has some pretty nice people. (I hang out with the Moss Giants on Crandor Island. ::')

Edit:

Not all of them are very nice... I went up to the level 88 (I'm level 87, in case you're wondering) and clicked on the emotes angry, cry, and stamp because he took my Moss Giant, and after I went for another one, this is what he said:

This is really off-topic (and I apologize, but I just wanted to get it out), I just noticed that having not played for nearly two weeks got me from rank 500k something to 518k... -.- :boohoo: <.<

I think the community is essentially the same. I remember that as a newb I was looked down on a lot. As a level 40-50, I was ignored and whenever I have to go now I get a load of people asking me for me st00f. I think that the F2P'ers are a denser community now than then, but I really enjoy it on the F2P worlds. You get the people following you, calling you noobs etc etc, but thats just part of the experience. I love it.

Jagex has really been smashing scammers this year, and I've noticed the difference :D . For example, the 15K mass ban in January(mostly consisting of autofishers), and the pure ess update which really took a hard hit on the scammers. What else? Oh yes the friendly messages when you log in now give anti-scamming advice, like my most favorite CHECK THE SECOND TRADE WINDOW!

Yep I applaud you jagex, great year of eating and spitting out scammers  \:D/ =D> :XD:

Sadly, jagex is always accidentally, unintentionally, unknowingly making new updates that can be used as a scam.

For example, the new lunar spellbook offered some teleother spells. One of which will teleport you to ice plateau, which is in the wildee! Now mages are going to world 2 and teleothering people there. Of course the merchants think its just a friendly teleother to fally, so they accept.

BOOM! They get owned by a clan the instant their feet hit the icy surface. I am sure jagex will fix this soon, but in the meantime, I am warning everyone about this clever scam.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

With how long I've played, I've noticed it to ge a steady decline overall... and it wasn't exactly the best when I started. = /

If you have doubts about it, go to the fishing area in Karajama periodically... It's not been getting much better, and I suspect other popular areas may soon follow to that decline.

Ive noticed it getting better than what it was about 2 months ago which is what i think this poster is trying to show.

Miniclip is now hosting a new game called Club Penguin that i beleive is sucking all the 8-11 year old immature people out of runescape.(no offense to anyone who is 8-11 that is mature)

Yay miniclip!!!

Scammers: Report em all and let Jagex sort them out. All we can do.

Macroers: Close doors and let muggers bash em up. :-$ Then report them.

Beggers: Beggers live beggers die. Then if you don't feed them they'll figure out how to play. Give stuff to people who are nice and don't ask for beg. You

make a friend and help him/her get through Rs2 easier. ::'

This can be countered easily... Just shut off that option you have that says "Accept Aid"... TeleOthers in Non-Wildi then are supposed to have no effect! :D 8-)

Enjoy!

Jagex has improved greatly in the scamming area I remember when I started about 5 years ago there were at least 20 popular scams (my friend who shall remain nameless pulled them all) and now you got 3-5 (I don't really keep up) Beggers will exist as long as money is hard to earn and politeness well... Jagex can't fix that one. Autos I don't mind, they keep inflation down no offense, it's sad but i think lobbies would go up to 500 gp a pop if we had absolutely no autoers for a year. I don't like 'em and I don't want 'em to stay but they aren't hurting anyone.

It's improved, go Jagex

Well, i tried it just now whit my main account in shiny torags and whip, and whit my newb acc in full mith. Whit torgas, a couple of people (3-4) followed me for some time and traded. If i asked what they want they asked about my armour (how much it costs, where do you get it etc). Whit my newb account, no-one gave a poop what i was doing or where i am going :)

:| I've watched the community gone for moderately nice to plain awful staying F2P for so long. Of course, the community has grown and that means lots of new people and unfortunately a lot of different attitudes along with it, bad and good. It seems that we've gotten a lot more bad too. #-o

I've been finding myself telling people to try reading the manual and guides for help on the RuneScape site since i didn't want to flood the chat with a full explaination on how to do a quest or how to make stuff. Plus a lot of stuff I don't remember or can't keep up with as I've done all the quests except Rune Mysteries of course on RuneScape Classic.

And I get yelled at and get called names for really no reason. :wall:

Then the whole "stats" issue, which I'm sure occurs on P2P as well. When someone asks for my stats, I ask them to look it up on high scores (otherwise, no point in having them...). Get yelled at again... <.<

A lack of common courtesy, respect is what I see. :( Plus just laziness in a way.

How can anyone stand looking at over 10 lines of describing what to do with a censor that bleeps things out half the time, AND try to read between other people's conversations is beyond me. :wall:

F2P is has only been getting better in the past year, since that was around the time that I joined. :) Spreading good cheer, and reporting the rule breakers. Gave away 200k worth of rune weapons last night. :)

Honestly, I think F2P is picking up though. Too bad I'm getting P2P in a few days. :D

I didn't notice the change in the F2P community until august 2004. I stayed in P2P but after a while I realized that newbs in F2P were much better than the ones in P2P.

I agree, it's gotten better. I took a break from Runescape for a year, and then, there were less scammers, name callers, and begging annoying noobs. Now, there's less scamming...

But there is one thing that bugs me.

I've only talked to one scammer so far, (which he failed at), but i ran into like 10 freakin peds! They're all like "Girl?, Single, age, name, city?!!"

It's creepy...This one noob started following me, and was like "Train me!"

Of course i didn't want to..i don't even know what she ment. So i logged off, and when i logged on, she said "Thank you master, i owe you! You showed me how to face my fears...i can see the fire in my eyes!!"

Then like 10 mins later, she said "My bro's lookin for a girlfriend", and i said " Uh no thanks...". Well then she logged off and her "Brother" (rofl, i knew it was her) was like "hey babe, i'm gonna strap you to my bed!"

Dude it was so messed up. I just blocked the noobs, and they disappeared.

O:)

So...overall i guess Runescape's community has gotten better. I love the block list. =)

Sadly, Jagex is always accidentally, unintentionally, unknowingly making new updates that can be used as a scam.

I think the problem there is that most anything can be used as a scam if you try hard enough and if the scammer and/or victims are stupid enough. Anything that involves potential danger can be deadly to people who refuse to be cautious.

The only way to completely remove scammers would be to remove all potential for gain or loss anywhere in the game.

The central determinant behind it all seem to me to be how foolish/dimwitted/careless the players can get, and I firmly believe that the average intelligence of the Runescape community will remain inversely proportional to the number of players coming from Miniclip, so long as Miniclip continues to host Runescape.

In short: More Miniclippers = more noobishness (scammers, beggars, idiots, etc.) = worse community.

Btw: I myself came here from Miniclip, and have good reasons for what I say, so don't think that I am merely flaming those people out of ignorance.

If you dont take steps to ensure that you're protected, you void all right to complain when stuff goes wrong.

the strong hold of security were spuse to stop scammers

but still u see a lot of ppl shouting "selling magic books 20-50k ea." u trade with them and they put a security book and security notes. f2p hasn't changed that much imho. some ppl just got lucky they didn't encounter much scammers, beggars and name callers.
