I've always wondered this question...

Back in the day when JAGeX would "drop" the holiday items, how exactly did they drop them? Did members of the JAGeX staff log on to the game and literally drop these holiday items or did they just respawn in different places around the world? I've always wondered what they mean by holiday "drop".

Thanks,

When items were dropped they would appear at time intervals just randomly among the ground. There would be a system message that appeared on the screen saying "Merry Xmas" or something along those lines and the items would just appear on the ground. I dont know if the density of items was relevent to the number of players on the server but when I was on I saw atleast 5 items in visual range if I remember correctly. Of course they were snatched up pretty quickly.

Dont hope for that. Jagex got so angry on how everyone exploited the items for profit. Better off hoping for an f2p update every week.

lol, I remember when that happened. Things would just randomly start popping up. It wasn't like they were scarce or hidden; they'd be on the roads, in cabbage patches, on ports, and in the wilderness.

They don't do any more drops because people are greedy.

Update to all:

As of last october, they resumed holiday drops at rare intervals. These include so far:

Halloween 2005 -- Zombie Head, another one gained from digging in the lum swamp grounds...

Christmas 2005 -- Christmas Hats And Scarves, all regained up to the work you did from Diango...

Easter 2006 -- Easter Ring, first gained from Easter Bunny if you did the task that needed doing, then from Diango afterward if you have the task done but lost the ring...

I'm looking forward to another one next October of this type. Should be another nice drop from jagex that I would be thankful to get access to. :)

actually if jagex cant think of any ideas for giving out these stuff.. they can just simply just do the old school type of giving out a message then dropping items.. EXCEPT that they are untradable :D

Actually players obtained them from NPCs.

Actually, you need to shoot yourself in the foot. :wall: . Joking of course... well... about shooting yourself anyways.

Holiday items were droppd RANDOMLY around all of RuneScape. You could just be walking and all the sudden one would pop up randomly. If you were lucky enough to see/get to it, then it was yours (obviously).

Eventually Jagex noticed rares being WAY too pricey, so they decided to start making them non-tradeable (scythes, bunny ears). When RS2 came out, they decided to make it were nobody would complain anymore... by introducing NPCs and small tasks in order to botain the holiday items.

And here's what's sad about that... Now I have buddies that complain about not getting the chance to hit the holiday drop and unlock it just because they weren't online at the time. :(

So I am like ::' and they are like <.<<.<<.< ... I feel kinda sorry for them.

But then again, I also think at the same time, "That's life. If you're there, you're there. If you're not, you're not." Personally, I don't like my internal comment, but sadly, it is what I have to watch out for, constantly. I guess it is just a lesson for everyone else, huh? What a head-banger. :wall:
