Well i've just recently started exercise a lot again after seeing my friend, after him going to the gym for 2 months 3 times a week he looks like the hulk, shame i can't afford it...

So i have started to do sit ups and some push ups to help build myself up, however last time i did 40 sit ups every night for 1 and half months, i didnt get much visible results

This time i'm really motivated, i've already done 45 today and hope to do the extra 55 before i go a bed, along with sit ups i play football a lot which keeps me in shape...

I have to questions for the tip it forum's people's:

1) what exercise do you do other then clicking of a mouse? :D

2) whats the best way to get a six pack?

1) I go to the gym 4+ times a week, fencing, rugby, karate, playing footy over the road and swimming.

2) I got my sit-up just by doing loads of sit ups.

All summer I've been doing sit up and push ups every day. I've cut down on how much I eat and I spend a lot of time outside. I slimmed down my stomache quite a bit and I can now see my abs but they're not very defined, which is my new goal.. Remember, even if you do sit up you can still over eat and they won't help much. This summer I have only been eating 2 meals a day (since I get up too late for breakfast) and a snack at night. But once school starts I'll be back up to 3 meals a day (which is probably better for me) so I'll have to work a little harder. Just keep up the sit ups and push ups.. Oh and get outside! Sitting around inside isn't going to help you

1) Gym every 3 days or so, running followed by weights. Sometimes I go climbing.

2) Crunches (situps also work your quadriceps as far as I know, crunches isolate the abdominals) IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER EXERCISE. If you're fat you won't just get a six pack by doing situps/crunches alone.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

You won't get a sit up by doing one bunch of 40 sits. You need to do repetitions. Start off with 5x 10 sit ups.

I do 5x10 press ups, 5x10 wide arm wide leg presses and 10x10 crunches every morning and night before/after bed. Like you, I can't afford a gym membership, but there's so much stuff you can use to re-create the environment. Just make sure everything is safe and secure, that's imperative. The biggest advantage of going to a gym other than working out in home is the safety aspect.

1) what exercise do you do other then clicking of a mouse?

Well.

I cycle to school every day. If I need to get somewhere within 10 miles, I cycle.

I play alot of badmington with my dad- a fantastic source of exercise, great fun too.

I used to iceskate but I gave up.

Horseriding every week. Again, really great fun.

Hm what else...I hate walking! Lol. Umm. I think that's it...a few sessions of tennis a year... :-k Can't think of anything else...

So that's cycling, badmington, and horseriding...

well i play tennis

AND i believe it's one of THE best ways to get a six packs. unlike the popular belief that tennis is a pansy sport or w/e, it's not. once you start playing, you'd be surprised at the mental aspect as well as all the work that has to be put into every shot. but i stray from the topic...

however... if you really want to see results from tennis, it can't be from hitting the ball... untrained. you hafta get lessons to properly learn how to get your whole body (including your abs) into every shot. and yeah... tennis lessons range from $30-50 an hour ^^"

40 sit ups? Bah.

You can START with that...but you need to be doing like 4 sets of 50 once you really get going if you actually want some definition.

Also, one of the prerequisites for a nice 6-pack is that you are slightly lean. Not terribly skinny, but don't have any weight on that belly. Either way, do more than you're doing, and do more sets of them. You have to be doing them until you can hardly do them any more.

I go swimming (just got back from the pool too), biking, and jogging (goal this summer is to be able to run 10km non-stop, so far I'm at 7km). My abs aren't really getting more defined, but my thighs are getting bigger, though the left one is bigger than the right one ugh.

Losing fat is the best way to have abs. There's no point in having major muscles if you have fat covering it. Once you lose that fat, then you can concentrate on working on your muscles. Make a diet, get rid of the softdrinks, sweets, etc. Oh, and from what I've read and heard, if you drink black coffee before working out helps. Caffeine helps your body to use fat instead of sugar for energy. Calories in, Calories out

Also, if you have a gym at school, they tend to be a lot cheaper (or free) than actual gyms. I'm paying the fee this coming school year so I can use it after school.

You'd be suprised how many excercises there are for abs, other than sit-ups. I do x-country, and after every practice we do abs. Sit-ups aren't that great if you're serious about getting a six-pack, and crunches aren't much better, by them self, since they only work your upper abs. I'll try my best to explain them, but some are sorta hard to describe in words.

To maximize the benifits of a normal sit-up, do "pray" sit-ups, which involes getting into the usual position, then putting your hands together as if praying, and placing them under your chin, which your arms glued to your stomache. This eliminates the tendancy to use other muscels besides your abs when doing push up. A similair one is doing a normal sit-up, except alternating reaching up with your hands as if there was a rope hanging down between your knees.

You can also isolate one side of your abs, by getting into normal sit-up position then turning the lower half of your body to the side. Doing a set of these (make sure you do both sides, so you don't get lopsided) is much more benificial then a set of normal sit-ups.

A more obscure exercise is the "squirm" which involves sitting down, then leaning back slightly and lifting your legs off the ground (the higher the better), then twisting your upper body back and forth as far as you can. Do this for a minute or so and I'm sure you'll feel the burn.

Most of these xcersizes can be improved trhough the use of a medicine ball, which adds some wieght resistence.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Sorry for any typos.

lift your legs 6 inches off the ground, keep them there for minute intervles, 10 times...and sit ups helps. I run, do leg lifts (the 6 in thing) situps, pushups, and jumping excerises...do that for 2 hours a day, its good stuff..i do it each day for soccer :D

i love how funny these excercise posts are. i'm guessing your young, seeing as if you were on a hs or college football team, they lift and train year round.

First off, if you want to lift, your school probably has a weight room in it(if you are in hs) which is normally open for like 4-6 hours a day even during the summer. Running is free and a great source of excercise

For the bed time thing your going to want to do more than 40 sit ups. try doing the bruce lee sit up circuit which he did every night before bed:

Waist twists - four sets of 90 repetitions.

Sit-up twists - four sets of 20 repetitions.

Leg raises - four sets of 20 repetitions.

Leaning twists - four sets of 50 repetitions.

Frog kicks - four sets of 50 repetitions

as for six pack, its not all about training your abs, 50 percent is ab, the other 50 percent is body fat, you need at least 8 percent or less body fat to have a sixpack. My friend got one from dieting and doing 1000 situps a month for 3 months.

happy excercising.

I play football everyday, 5:30 to 7:00, you wouldn't beleive the smaret -[wagon] i a so I do a lot of pushups, sit ups, laps, the like. Not to mention I have a lovley bowflex that compliments my basement sofa quit nicley:)

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

ok, the bold: I'm 13 and I was doing 500-1k situps each night, and ~200 pushups a day. You aren't doing enough by far! your saying your friend went to the gym which can only make me assume your in highschool, and i wonder, why so little amount of situps and such? i thought you had to do a lot more than that in "gym" (even i do, and im in 7th grade, though not to gloat since im pretty sure it's the same for everyone else).

1. Exercises i like, pushups and sit ups of course lol, i also like biking, but i don't get around to it much, i also like soccer and basketball, my soccer ball popped so i havent been able to practice in a while, but i have a court one house over from mine, so it's quite easy to practice basketball.

2. When i was doing all of those push ups and sit ups, it was x-mas break, but when it came to an end i no longer had to time nor urge to continue, so i ended up quitting with a full four pack and the last two packs (to make six) started, but my arms are quite nice not to gloat or anything, but im happy, maybe would be happier if i had a 6 pack :?

Finally! Someone who is like me! Exept I didnt quit. ::'

I do 1500 crunches, around 100-120 pushups, a bunch of exercises with dumbells, leaning back for three minutes, to the side for a three minutes, and to the other side for three minutes.

I just do my exercises 3 times and it equals that. I do 500 crunches, 30-40 pushups, 4 different things with dumbells (I do low weight high rep) and the leaning to each side for a minute. I do that three times every day. It takes me around 1-2 hours to finish, and I just sit around the rest of the day. During school I jog around 3 miles a day. I usually play on the school basketball team aswell. So really my whole day is packed with working out. I eat decent foods. (I dont eat healthy foods all day, but not fatty ones either) I do have a six-pack, but my body hasnt truly started bulking up yet, so I do expect to gain around 15-20 pounds of muscle by next year. I have been doing these exercises for about a half a year. Im 14 btw.

1. When I used to go to the gym, I used to run for about 30 mins, then machines then free weights. Do a different area of the body each time.

2. Go to the bottleo and ask for one. Get a carto (it works out cheaper)

Wow a lot of posts in 1 night

When i was doing 40 sit ups a night, i was like 13, now i'm 16 havent done sit ups for over 2 years, i've kept in shape by purly playing football, until 2 nights ago when i decide to do sit ups again.

When you start doing sit ups you can't do 100+ as your get cramps in your stomach the next day and will have a painful day (trust me i know).

First day i restarted i did 45 before bed.

Yesterday i did 20 in morning, 25 at around 4 and 45 more before bed, also done a hell or a lot of walking.

Today at 11am ive done 20 this morning, hope to do 30 this after and 50 tonight, see how i'm building it up?

I'm pretty sure i'm going in the right direction, and about body fat, i'm probly about 8% body fat, i'd post a picture if i could, i basically have hardly any fat...

Not so true with the 100 sit-ups and you will have cramps the next day thing. I hope you meant crunches, because crunches are much more efficient than sit-ups. You can do them quicker and do alot more of them. I do 1500 crunches a night and lots of other stuff, and Im not sore at all, maybe my muscles are a little tired but I work out 4 days in a row then take a break for one and repeat.

God, there's so much bullcrap coming from this thread. 1,000 sit ups a night, give me a break.

If you read my post, I do 1500 crunches (Plus the tons of other stuff I talked about) every day. Its not that big of a deal, it doesnt take that long really. Crunches and sit-ups are also two different things. My workout takes 1-2 hours and only around half that time is actually spent doing crunches.
