My King Black Dragon and Cat Sculptures!

Featured Replies

This is my king black dragon sculpture, made by using acrylic clay.

The KBD playset comes with everything you see here (Burnt to a crisp adventurer not included)

I'm not happy with how the eyes or the horns turned out, though.

I made it by using an armature, which is basically a wire sculpture on which I place the clay on. I was physically hurt a couple of times, wire can be very pointy!

I'm not too good with the lighting, as you can tell.

This is an overhead view. I just found out that the clay KBD lair was already posted on the postbag page, and this idea was supposed to be original. Oh well. I sent it in anyway.

This is probably the best project I've ever done. It took up nearly a pound of black clay, the total sculpting time was nearly an hour and a half, and the KBD measures 3 inches tall, 9 inches from head to tail, and 6 inches wingtip to wingtip.

And if you think this isn't the bee's knees, so what? Most of you have probably never sculpted the KBD before.

EDIT: I was going to make an animation of it, but he was too delicate to move.

Here's Bob and Evil Bob, seen together for the first time in public.

And here they are, seen together in public for the second time.

They also star in a 2-second-long claymation: Clicky, clicky!

Thanks! I'm proud of it, but it's a shame I'm going to have to take him apart.

very creative, plus a very hard thing to make out of clay, I made a character outa modelling clay once with a wire center, it was amazin for the first 2 days, it just went really hard and snapped when I tried to move it. But yeah I hope you still had fun makin this, I was stupidly decided to make my own wires out of tiny paper-covered wires you get with sandwich bags, had to strip em off and bundle em together.. :wall: , can't tell ya how much my fingers ached.. ::'

good stuff ::'

It's worth noting that I was going to turn this into an animation, but the KBD is too fragile to move.

Ok, I've added new sculptures of bob and evil bob, made from 100% recycled KBD clay!

on topic: looks really good. but one thing i would do is add a bit more texture to the creatures.

Well, the point of the background for the KBD is that it's a backdrop, which I didn't piece together very well. It's really just textured construction paper.

As for the background of the cat's that's really just my workspace, which I keep very messy.

Wow, I'm highly impressed. You should have made a little claymation with them. I especially like the KBD's lair - all it needs is a couple of noobs XD

Your wish is my command. Expect it to be little, though. Maybe 2 seconds, with 20 seconds of credits.

EDIT: It's up. the link is on the first post.

A Dragon Reborn as in Robert Jordan? I love his books! I don't remember any cats, though, probably because I haven't read that one in a long time.

Sorry, I just get hyped when I see someone with interests similar to mine.

Not ONLY is it the Bee's knees, it's the Cat's pajamas... and, dare I say... The bird's beak. OH! (It's also the little hangy thing on a turkey, but I dunno what that's called >.>)

Good idea! I'm currently working on a claymation christmas special (yes, in september), but maybe when I'm done with that.
