i dont use capitalization, i probably spell words wrong, and many of my sentences are very long with way too many commas in them. i think they are still a lot more legible than other's posts, where they abbreviate words and use numbers instead of letters. i was never any good at grammar anyway, so even if i did try real hard to make it correct it probably wouldn't be.

I don't think people realize how stupid it makes them look. Using words like "wat" and "u" are just 2 of many common grammar "shortcuts" that make the user sound like a driveling fool.

Me: hey, u!

U: wat?

Well thats your opinion, I dont have to care.

If you don't care then why are you getting worked up about it?

Please prove this statment? I can spell and use grammar fairly well (Ok the spelling part is less just cause I have a hard time spelling some words) when writing in school. It's just cause im typing on the web and not in a classroom that I have im-perfect spelling and grammar.

I think what he was saying is that if you practice bad spelling/grammar online, eventually it's going to be transferred into your schoolwork.

The better your grammar is online, the quicker it will come to you when it really matters.

I am sick and tired of people make assumptions, that is why! And what i ment is that i dont care if poster has an opinon on the bad spelling and grammar, all I care about is that past that, im making some of the best posts, and all you all see is the errors. Maybe if people tried looking at the good (What i mean) instead of the bad (The errors) the world could be a diffrent place.

And my bad spelling and grammar do not transfer over to school work. I may not be the best speller(I do learn new words some times) but I am awsome in Grammar

BTW, i dont need to write (IMO) or anything like that, cause everything is my opinion. If you dont like it, fine, i could care less.

I'm sick and tired of your whining. Tell me, do you have this nifty program called Microsoft Word or any of its open-source derivatives? It's loaded on many suburbanite childrens' computers. Contained within it is this nifty feature called Spelling and Grammar Check, which, sans a few instances, fixes many common English mistakes, turning what might be a relatively incomprehensible piece of garbage into an intelligible opinion overflowing with veritable awesomeness.

There is no excuse for poor grammar. If you're as old as you say you are you should know how to write English, unless you speak French as a first language, in which case I disregard what I said. You are pure lazy, writing "cause" instead of "because." I do the same thing now and then, but when your post is rife with such shortcuts it becomes annoying.

Additionally, you purport that there is no correlation between a user's intelligence and their grammatical skills. I think that if a user is posting on an ENGLISH LANGUAGE FORUM then they should have A REASONABLE GRASP OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, don't you? If they do not then they obviously do not comprehend things when they are told to them, and are therefore rather slow.

We don't care if this isn't an English class. This is a community where people come to be entertained and informed. The aforementioned people like to be entertained and informed in a relatively coherent and intelligent fashion; they do not feel like struggling to decode a users' meaningless drivel.

I've been typing just like this since I joined this community, with the occasional BTW or LAWL here and there, but NEVER anything drastically terrible. I may have been a fool for a good bit of that time but that doesn't change the fact that I at least made a genuine effort to make myself understood and not be a selfish brat. Unless somebody knows English reasonably well, has something to contribute and is not a native speaker there is no case for them in this war.

Have a nice day.

Well, even tho i am out of school still, English is my second language,

Unless somebody [...] is not a native speaker there is no case for them in this war.

You would qualify as not a native speaker, as you mentioned. That's why I addressed that in my post, because I actually read the thread. No offense intended to you or any other "foreigners."

My senior year in high schools, a lot of teachers did not believe i was from a different country and only been here for 4 years, because my english portfolios were good and so are my other papers for any of my classes. I dont know, i just tried... Right now, I am bored and just browsing forums... as we all do And i do see your point of view, I was quiet surpriced by the way some people speak English here, i mean common, arent you supposte to be from here  ...i thought i was foreign

Ok last post before bed, and untill now, everyone has actually been ok, untill now:

Yes i know of this program. I have used it for every essay, every paper, ever lab report i have written. I know how to use most features on the program. I deffinitly know how to use spell cheack and grammar cheack. I have used it for almost every paper, and have gotten near to perfect grammar, and perfect spelling (Grammar is sometimes a little weird on the program). What are you implying by mentioning the program. That i should use it with every post? That is stupid, and would cause posting here to become a chore, and an unenjoyable thing. Has my posts on this thread been that hard to read that you have no idea what im talking about? Im preatty sure I've payed better attention to these posts, then i have ever done to other posts.

English is my first language. And does "cause" really bother you that much? I only used it a few times, and it has annoyed you? And you all seem to not understand that i do not lace my posts with "u"s and "y"s and "r"s and ect. like most people do. I actually spell things right

But just cause i ommit two letters in a word, you yell at me?

Im fairly sure i have a grasp on the english language, as i can read excellent, it is just my spelling and some grammar that lacks. Heack, now that im in grade 11, they care less about spelling and grammar, they dont even teach iit. We are only tought now about how to read and decipher things, and learning how to undstand what others write, and what they mean vs. what you think. I am preatty sure i undserstand this because i have read it, and i think calling me slow is a big insult, seeing as i am an honors(sp?) student.

Case in point, this isnt an English class. Why should people care about spelling and grammar if they come here to have fun? I certainly wouldnt.

Lionheart is just being stubborn because he lacks spelling and grammatical skills. If he did well with words I doubt he would have such a problem with this thread.

Also like someone said earlier, I know everyone is taking extra care to make sure their grammar is perfect. :XD:

Oh well, I would rather Lionheart sit and complain, it gives this thread some controversy. ::'

Lionheart, I just want you to know that I never skip over any of your posts, because to me, you are an intelligent, and very nice person and you always have something constructive and insightful to say. I think that you have a good grasp of the English language and punctuation, but your spelling lacks. I don't care about that. My brother is just like you. He can't spell for [cabbage], but he always has something interesting to say.

To everyone else here: I have never ever judged you based on your grammar or spelling because that doesn't bother me unless I have to go to urbandictionary to decipher the things you say.

Well I try to do the best I can (come on I'm a year 8 drop out for crying out loud ) and bad grammar doesn't effect me really, unless they're like this:

lol i see u got 70 prayer?please dun tell me u dun use it urself?dun tell me its for ur cb lvls?bah dude be real ight?ur just lying to ur face and to us.prayer is something like boost ur character to its max and protect prayer is just ppl that dunno how to use prayer while in cb u can use steel def incredible reflexs and other sorts of prayer?well dude ur probably one of those ignorant people that get own by lower lvls and to proud of urself using or not using prayer its any1s choice so take a hike u might feel better?u need some air lol :boohoo:

I still haven't read that properly btw  It's because I'm guessing he's trying to insult me (its from page 5 of the prayer rant in the rants forum) but he has ignored everything I had posted before and I don't know but looking at that really makes me wish you can punch people over the internet #-o

Oh, I don't care too much about it. I just read everything what I feel like reading. Not everybody has got English as their first language. And in that group you have the people who have good grammar, and you've got the people who just don't have it. And I can't really blame the latter for not having good grammar. And that goes for native speakers as well: Not everybody is good at grammar and spelling. You can hardly blame them for that. And well, as for laziness. It doesn't really matter to me, I read it all the same. Maybe even faster than a grammatically perfect reply with all kind of fancy words that I need to look up in the dictionary.

I wouldn't skip a post with bad grammar unless it was shockingly bad, but that's rare. A surprising number of people don't actually have the english ability to use 100% good grammar, and I wouldn't judge them by that.

If I see a post with bad grammar and spelling I usually think less of the person. Why? It's all we can judge a person on when reading their post. We can't see them, smell them, hear them etc. If I see someone talking like "0mg i wuv Boston" and someone saying "I love Boston" i'm inclined to read the latter's post as they seem to have an intelligent point to their post. Yes I know it is wrong of me...

I've got to say, if I see garbage grammar - I skip the post.

Ditto that.

Yes ill give my response to Astraliner's post after school, seeing as I dont have the time (It is freaking 7:00AM!)

Anyways to those picking at the few sentences i spelled wrong. Did i say that i used a spell cheacker to write my posts? I said i wouldnt, as it would make my posting here a chore. And That poem that Landon posted, i could read it almost perfectly, because i am smart enough to use my brain to figure it out. But it seems just because i spell "it" as "iit" you all go into an uproar.

I once had something along the lines of "Do not correct my spelling" in my sig. The "correct" was spelled wrong. Purposely. It was a test to see who could look at a meaning of a line, and not just what it was made up of (Content vs. Quality). Most people failed my test. Alot just PM'ed me saying that they saw the error, and only wished to read what they wanted, and not do what it said.

Edit: I read Astra's post a few times, and thought it over. He is saying a very diffrent thing compared to the rest of you. I dont need to pick out each paragraph of his post because i basicly agree with it all. I try my best, i try to use the knowledge i have to help communicate ideas. I assume all responsability for wrong grammar, as i can fix that myself easily. But the spelling is hard for me. Why must i be made fun of for being human, and in-perfect? And im glad that some people look at the content, not the quality.

I've stopped taking so much notice about it, because you just don't know who you might be talking to who on here. Tip.it is such an international forum, too often I see people slagging off someone's spelling and/or grammar, and they're like Hungarian or something. How's your Hungarian, for smeg's sake?

I tend to use grammar etc. not to make me look intelligent, but just for practise. I think it helps when I'm word processing or the like, for when I really need it, because I've kept it up on here.

Exactely Bubs; I can't stand horrible grammar that's mutilated on purpose, but you can't blame foreigners that they make a slight mistake.

I find it laughable that the people who are irritated by these errors are most often the people that confuse "their, there and they're" all the time. Often American or Brittish people even.

I noticed squirrel pointed out a mistake Ben made earlier, brag with double G. That's most likely a typo, so if you would just look over it and continue, your life would become a lot less complicated.

This is another thing I posted in the 'French' fries thread that sums it all up. He was complaining about an error as meaningless as fries not being frites but fries in English.

-.-

It's 'des frittes' in French and 'frieten' in Dutch, so it's a forgiveable mistake.

I'll let it go this time, but start paying more attention at school.

Dude, you blame a foreigner, whose native language is Dutch, his second language French, his thrid language German and his *fourth* language English for misspelling something??

How about you go to school and learn that not everyone is perfect.

Unless you didn't notice him being Belgian, like myself, you have no right of saying that. How many languages do you fluently write then hm?

You don't have to use big words to be grammatically correct :P Besides, it's usually better to skip posts with those huge words because they're just people massaging their ego. ;)
