Bubsa
I don't know why but Evanescense - My Immortal springs to mind here. Other than that, Creed - My Sacrifice, or N.I.N. - Hurt, which are much more rock orientated. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. True, but I think Cash managed to take that song and turn it into an epitaph of his life. Whereas with the N.I.N. version it's very much a stream of conscious of drug and heroin use. Seeing as the video is about HIV and stuff I thought of that one. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

assassin_696
Sad songs? Several spring to mind, not all might be appropriate though. Fields Of Gold - Eva Cassidy: Sad, reflective song, could be about someone you lost to an illness or something like that. Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton: Again, it's fairly sad and was written about the loss of Clapton's son. Vaka - Sigur Ros: Lord knows what it's about but it's beautifully sad and moving. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley: Ignore the religious overtones, at the heart of this song lies a beautiful echoing sad (yet uplifting) melody and haunting vocals. Everybody Hurts - REM: This almost a "don't jump" song, but if you could get an instrumental version (if there is one) the melody is fittingly sad. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
Satenza
Jump By Van Halen. Sad Sad song  With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Uldric
Everlast - What it's Like. Just has that kind of feel to it. Everybody Hurts by REM is another good one like Assassin said. If you want something a little heavier I suppose you could go Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar.

Centuramage
I think that B.B. King's "Why I Sing the Blues" and Paul Simon's "Homeless" would probably suit your needs nicely. :)

sheepdean
who wants to live forever, or it's instrumental 'forever'. by queen, and even though it has nowt to do with freddie, it's very poignant. or more queen songs, "too muhc love will kill you" or "no-one but you". also "the drug's don't work" by the verve, very sad song Back by popular demand! And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all. Mercifull
If its for a presentation then you dont want a heavy song or one with lyrics because it will distract from what you are saying.
