You either support scammers and cheaters, or you support Player Moderators.

There is no middle ground. If you hate player moderators YOU are a bad person.

clearly you lack common sense.

Just because I dislike people who think they're better than everyone else doesn't mean I wish destruction and turmoil.

That's like saying I either support the war on terrorism, or im a terrorist.

I know a few p mods, who I wont name, who are just scum. They've scammed, lied, used programs, etc. Half of them try to pk, and flame you, but if you flame back, UH OH, temp mute!

I was banned for a week one time because I killed a player mod, and when he flammed me, I flammed back.

Yeah, that's fair.

There are good ones, but I dont see the point of giving players power. Half them abuse it.

Player moderators that abuse their powers get their status removed and are no longer player moderators. Which brings me back to my previous statement.

you're honestly not very bright. Let me state my point, AGAIN.

Saying that if you dont support p mods you're a bad person is not only moronic, but an immature statement.

Frankly, I dont care if people are banned for 2 accounts in at once, or saying a 'bad word' every once in a while. Let things go. Sure, mods help at times, but im not going to drop to my knees and worship them. There is a middle ground, whether you like it or not.

It's called, not caring. Do I cheat? No. Do I care if others do it? No. Just as long as I dont get affected by it, they can do as they please.

Like I said before, an analogy for what you're saying is that if you dont support the war on terrorism, you're a terrorist.

The discussion about Player Moderators is very vast and can go on forever. Let me share with you guys an overall view of them, and my personal experiences.

Moderators are completely normal players, the ONLY thing that actually differs them from normal players is that they can mute and have a crown next to their name. People think that they are powerful, and can bust anyone with a report. That's not true, and their reports are treated the same as if it came from a "normal" player. They do not have to help anyone at all, even if you tell them to come to a place because xxxxx is selling fake rocks (scamming).

Players in game usually respect player moderators more than normal players and call them sir etc...

I do not like the fact that player moderators exist and all that. People often exaggerate about the "status" of being a pmod, there's not much status at all. If you're a f2p mod, the majority of players don't even know what your crown resembles. We should just play this game, and forget about the pmods, because a large portion of normal players offer a lot of help too.

Some people, after getting modded, start becomming very different in a way. They pretend to be someone (usually professional and crap) who they aren't, and things go bad. Some have a sudden change of attitude, and valuate other people as "below" them. As a moderator, you are supposed to help. Not like when you see a guy saying: "selling account for rocks!!" you immediately check his name, report + mute him and laugh at him getting busted. That's not how you should roll, you should go to that person politely and tell him that account selling is illegal, then report.

If you ever see a moderator threating you with their status, you can actually report that moderator (as long as you haven't broken a rule of course). Make sure you get him busted, because that's the worst spirit ever.

Let me show you an example of a quite power-abusing and harsh moderator:

Background: I log onto Runescape in Varrock West bank world 11, to have a talk with my friends and fans. When I get on, I see a level 17 trying to sell that account. So what I do is, I head to that person and try to tell her that selling accounts is against the rules. She didn't seem to reply me, and about a minute later I get a PM from a fellow moderator. The moderator told me to be quiet and not talk, or else others would know about me, and therefore not break rules. After that, the PMs go like this:

wth.png

The first few messages from the pmod was kind of stupid in my opinion... what the heck do you mean by "he was muted by me btw...", are you proud of muting someone?

If a level 17 tries to sell his/her own account, there's a large chance that that person isn't experienced (who the heck would buy a level 17), and thus not know about the rules. Many new players aren't familiar with all the rules, and rules like account selling/real world item trading aren't obvious ones. Jagex never forces players to read the rules, so not everyone knows about them. Muting someone before telling them what mistake they've done, is very rude...

The simple idea of player mods is just beckoning for abuse. I'm not saying there aren't good ones, because most are. However, its generally unavoidable, especially when you factor in that well over half of Runescape's population is too immature to hold such a position.

In reply to the comments that Chaos_Reborn made in the post above, think of it this way:

If you drive a car and break rules and a cop pulls you over and tickets you, are you going to use the excuse that he should tell you the rules and that he is a bad cop if he doesn't and continues to ticket you.

I don't think so :D Its you responsability to know the rules of the road. Same in the game - its your responsability to read and know the rules.

I'm curious....who moderates the moderators? Do player and forum mods have guidelines or do they just go with what they feel at the time? I tend to believe it's the latter, particularly with the RS Forum mods (and with the above poster showing the conversation between 2 player mods, it's pretty obvious to me that one of them hasn't read the guidelines OR there are no guidelines/rules for moderators).

Question 2: Are RS Forum mods also player mods?

I frequently read the Recent Updates and Future Updates parts of the forum and have seen innumerable instances of forum mods locking threads that would naturally fizzle out on their own or simply have no reason to be locked. Frankly, I'm afraid to voice any sort of opinion there that might be construed as being "anti-mod" for fear of being banned and I've worked too hard on my character to lose it for the sake of speaking my mind. I know Jagex doesn't care, but I certainly respect them less for being overly harsh and wishy-washy.

it was said that "half of them abuse it"

i have probably met more than half of the mods, there are very few who abuse their power. of the incredibly large amount of mods, almost all are good people

that would be similar to saying that all police officers are corrupt from what one did.

Try and understand player MODs are not Police, Police have years of training and most are upstanding role models of society, player mods are kids who have pressed the report button in a online game more times then normal players or they have posted more times on the runescape forums then others.

It maybe your responsibility to read the rules, but its the pmods responsibility to explain them as best they can, that is thier job as far as I can see, and if they players fail to abide by the rules they have a quicker route to getting the player banned etc..

Player moderators stop rule breakers. If you don't want player moderators to stop rule breakers, then you DO SUPPORT rule breakers.

Cheaters/rule breakers ruin the other game for others, if you don't mind them ruining the game for others(as long as it's not you) then you ARE a bad person.

Like I said before, an analogy for what you're saying is that if you dont support the war on terrorism, you're a terrorist.

First. Those are two different things. "War" is an action, and "player moderators" are a group.

Second. Lots of people don't support the American war on terrorism because it isn't the right action to take against terrorists. It isn't that they don't want action to be taken against terrorists, they just don't think the American governments course of action is the right one to take.

If by chance you don't care if terrorists continue bombing people, then you are actually supporting them.

Perhaps you should learn a little more facts before you try to argue with someone that is older and more knowledgable than you.

Think before you post.

I think that was my line that I was supposed to say to you.. ^^

1. Hate to say this, but ignorance of the law is no defence. Whether someone is aware of the rules or not, they're there to be read and they're not hard to find. And I'm pretty sure Tutorial Island mentions something about rules of conduct...

2. You're not meant to warn people or tell them what to do. You report abuse when/where you see it, if you feel it is appropriate to do so. It is up to Jagex to deal with, and not your responsibility.

However.... mod camping out waiting for rule breakers a little low... Anything better to do, pl0x?

Player since August 2006, Player Moderator since February 2007.

the 1 with mod pic, its the new noob mods who give rule breakers warnings lol, senior ones just go and mute ahead and shut up :P

although i do have like 55 mod friends, only thing i see is different with them, that i notice non-pmod mate messages much more easier, as when someone like that talks to me, it has a hole instead of crown lol. Seriously, it's really annoying when all 55 mods talk at once :D Cant really tell who was the 1 with subject1 and who with subject 2 >.<

But yea, i think there just like me, you and your neighbour, not much different. (other than personality)

As a player mod I do not see us as "tools"... there is no real obligation to report anyone. It's up to the individual whether they want to play the game like they did before or let it change how the play. It says in the Player Mod section of the runescape site...

Player Moderators are normal players of the game, just like you. They still play to complete quests and increase their levels but since they have shown themselves to be a trustworthy and active reporter, they have been invited by Jagex to monitor the game while they are playing and to take appropriate action when they see rule breaking.

Oh and Chaos, you need to touch up on your oracle... Probably not going to read this though because it got bumped from 13 months ago...
