women and men equality..

i'm not sure if this has been posted b4...meh...could not find it using search so..

anyway. how does every1 feel about the whole "men and women are equal and should be equal in every instance" state of mind?

personally i feel that women simply do not belong in certain aspects of life, such as high end politics. let's take Hilary for example. I do not see it fit for a woman to be president..i just dont. call me sexist if you must, but i feel that women rely on their emotions too much to be making decisions of that calibur. Also i feel that they are simply too sensative and just are not built like men for certain situations (mental and physical)

what are your opinions? if your respect for me falls because of this..oh well..it's how i feel

Most of us men get angry and fight out of emotion right away. If you are gonna be sexist, get out.

Everyone IS equal. No ifs or buts.

There are plenty women Heads of State that are are perfectly competent for their duties and perform them well =\ . As far as I know, Bush and his lackies were plenty emotional during their term, going so far as to invade a most-likely irrelevant country

I guess women can't really play (american) football as well as men, but I think that's besides the point. :?

and i don't see that as besides the point Rocket

What I mean is its obvious men are physically stronger than women, which carries over to rough-contact sports and some military duties, but it has nothing to do with politics (i figured their competence in politics and leadership was your main point).

naw it wasn't my main point, just an example. i guess i just get agrivated at all the feminists at my school that it got me a bit flustered. they want to pick and choose what they are equal in and what they are not is my main point

He is an idiot, true, but what you are saying isn't accurate either.

The average man is stronger than the average woman. That is not equality. That is probably the reason why women can't do the army thing mentioned. It's also the reason why there are so few female construction workers. Women can give birth - again, not equal.

There is a difference between being equal and having equal opportunities.

Are men and women equal? No. Not in every way. It isn't sexist, the same as it isn't racist to point out that such a person has dark skin. It is just an observation.

Do men and women deserve equal opportunities within reason? Yes. That one's pretty clear cut. The 'within reason' qualifier is there because there ARE certain things that different sexes are better suited for - as a mother is, on average better suited to being a midwife, a man is, on average, better suited to being a construction worker.

Sure, like mentioned above, there will probably never be absolute gender equality. Like, now women don't have to go to the army in any country, men do. Both women and men are usually buying tickets to sport games played by men rather than women (but it's getting more common to go watch games played by women).

In politics, I'd have to disagree with you. Especially when women get older, they start being more and more rational and their decisions are less based on the emotional hormones of a 20-40 year old. And even then, there are a lot of "tough" women in any age group who can do a good job at being for example a senator or a president.

Plus, it sets a good example for less democratic countries where women can't even VOTE, which in my opinion is ridiculous because they're citizens. They will be amazed to see that a woman can even lead a country and see that country can still thrive economically.

.... you knew what I meant. I was referring to equal rights and what not. Just because one gender is stronger means nothing.

Political men have huge ego's. I'd personally rather have more woman, men can, as I said, be just a little bit egotistical.

Equality forever. We should learn something from the Egyptians, they especially, knew what equality was, and followed it well.

yeah now that i disagree with Blue. i completely agree that they should be able to vote...i dunno i just do not see them as the leader

of course there are circumstances...and now when i think about it i can agree that when they are older (which is usually when they are high up in politics) they are much more rational

It makes me mad, when i see a women doing a mans job, when a man isnt allowed to do a womens job. I cant think of examples right now, but yeah. Its like how women can try out for mens sports teams, but men cant try out for womens teams.

that was another example that i was going to use with Lion...it's not just with sports either

Because men are stronger then women, as said earlier, so if a woman goes in and loses, its really her own fault for trying, and if she wins, it just proves her equality. But if a man trys out for a woman's leauge, and wins, it just proves nothing, because men are stronger then women (usually).

So in reality, it is equality.

I believe in equal opportunities for men and women in the workforce, military, and politics. You know, a woman shouldn't get paid less for a job that a man gets paid more for, stuff like that. A woman would also be as competent a president (or in any other political office) as a man.

Women and men are different though. I believe we think differently, and since I do appreciate someone to have manners, I do expect to be treated like a woman by a man. In other words, I don't want a man walking up to me and punching me in the arm like he would his buddies. I do believe that men shouldn't hit women, but if a woman hits a man first and really hurts him, then she's on her own.

I don't like to stereotype men, therefore, I don't want to be stereotyped. I don't want a man to expect me to stay in the kitchen and make babies. I don't want a man to expect me to clean up after him.

If a woman wants to be a construction worker, more power to her.

If a man wants to deliver babies, or be a nurse, then, he's perfectly within his rights to.

If you operate that both ways that's fine, however I know of plenty of women who will rant about equality when it comes to cleaning up or cooking, but not when it comes to them expecting their husbands to clean out the guttering, fix the car or move heavy things.

Oh yeah. My mom is that way.

I guess I've kinda learned not to be that way by watching the way she treats my dad sometimes.

I can't even bring myself to playfully hit a girl..

On topic.. I believe men and women should have equal rights. Of course men and women can't be equal physically, but we can't change that.

For true equality, cultural norms would also have to be severely altered.

Why is it accepted since the times of renaissance, that a woman may slap a man really hard on the face but a man can't? It's cultural, at least in Europe. Why in other countries, women could be put to death for slapping a man? Cultural differences. There is no one "true" culture, I think the best way is to just be neutral, i.e. in this case, nobody should be "allowed" to hit anybody.

Personally I don't think their will ever be true equality.

With that said, I think that a woman is technically capable of being president, (whether that would ever happen, atleast for a long time, is in doubt). Except Hilary Clinton, she is just stupid.

As said, men are just generall built up different from women. What I hate so much is how women have lower requirements to get into the fire department here. Call me sexist, but if I or someone I knew was passed out and dieing in a fire, I'd much rather be saved by a 6'4 220lb dude who could actually carry me to safety. When a woman can meet the same requirements as is needed for a man to pass, I am entirely cool with that. Until then, they shouldn't be fire fighters.

Also, the whole army thing. Men just generally are better suited for the army. Obviously some women are capable, but it just doesn't work (men react differently around women, etc. Aswell, they may not be aggressive or powerful enough to fight in close quarters, and may not have the killer instinct often required.)

On the flip side, it's been proven that women are probably better mothers, as they have a natural bond with their child. That's not to say men aren't as good parents (quite often, they can be far better), but there is some merit in saying that on average, women have to ability to be better parents.

I believe women and men should have equal economic and social rights, but in some cases, it's best left to one or the other.
