Attack, defence, strenght, hitpoints, ranged, magic, prayer, slayer, herblore, agility, construction end with -ing? That's over half of the skills... Though you DID say "Almost every other" -.-

It's ok, your just like the average Runescape player. No matter what Jagex gives you, you will find something wrong with it and accuse them of giving you bad updates... *sigh*

When slayer came out I expected it to be called slaying. When hunter came out, I assume it'd be called hunter, and not hunting. Slayer probably sounds perfectly normal to you - but there were people just as bewildered about the name slayer as you are about hunter. In some time hunter will sound just as natural.

Some people were complaining about how it would encourge people to hunt animals. Still might do the same Hunter- Person who hunts. Hunting- Act of hunting an animal.

yeah lol, but of course that also encourages people to kill things and try to bury their bones  , yeah i don't think there is much to this post...

Oh yeah, jagex is surely not well informed about english, after all having a company in england, be english and watch too much monty python is not motive to say "i know english".

Anyways, this whole disscution is a little obsolete, you know, i got like lvl 16 in hunt and i don̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt know because i did not checked if it says hunt or hunting...

Ah yeah! i want to be lvl 99 woodcutter and then highalch with i hope near lvl 99 magicing!!!

The word is maging. You guys keep talking about how some words won't work with -ing, -er, or neither. But these are all verbs, and they all work with either the root like attack, the er like hunter, or the ing like farming. Let me make a table.

Root "ing" "er"

Attack Attacking Attacker

Defence Defending Defender

Strength Strengthening Strengthener

Hitpoints (not a verb. It could be "hit point raising/raiser, or root could be changed)

Ranged Ranging Ranger

Pray Praying Prayer

Magic Maging Mager

Cook Cooking Cooker

Woodcut Wcing Woodcutter

Fletch Fletching Fletcher

Fish Fishing Fisher

Firemake Fmaking Firemaker

Craft Crafting Crafter

Smith Smithing Smither

Mine Mining Miner

Herblore (not a verb)

Agility (not a verb)

Thieve Thieving Thiever

Slay Slaying Slayer

Farm Farming Farmer

Runecraft Runecrafting Runecrafter

Hunt Hunting Hunter

Construction Constructing Constructer

Sorry the table looks so ugly.

Anyway, my point is that it's entirely up to jagex to choose the type of verb. Since the majority of them are verbs, they should be able to keep some kind of consistency. You see how each type is all over the place.

Troj...you took the words right outta my mouth.

I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete.
So, what is 1.111... equal to?

10/9.

Please don't continue.

I found it awkward why they would call it "Hunter" skill not "Hunting", i mean almost every other skill ends with an "-ing". #-o

"w00t I got 99 hunter", does that sound like proper english? :ohnoes:

"w00t" doesn't sound like proper english

"I got" doesn't sound like proper english

I think that was shout down before hunter even got thrown in there.

And

"I have 99 hunter"

"I have 99 hunting"

Neither one of them really sound like proper english.

And to Adam, the er suffix makes it a noun, not a verb. Slayer is a person that slays. Hunter is a person that hunts.

And, since it is referring to a skill, technically they are all nouns, sense a skill is a noun. That's why you can "have" a high leveled skill.

Look, if your mom still drops you off at school, you ain't gangsta, pull up your damn pants!

"er" refers more the the person and "ing" refers to more the act. Being that all these are skills, i beleive they should all be "ing".

Attack--Not a verb

Defence--Same as Attack

Strength--Not a verb

Hitpoints--Not a verb

Range--Not a verb

Prayer--Not a Verb

Magic--Not a Verb

Cooking--Sounds the best as "ing"

Woodcut--Could go either way, but sounds best as woodcut

Fletching--Sounds the best with "ing"

Fishing--Sounds the best with "ing"

Firemaking--Sounds best with "ing"

Crafting--Sounds best with "ing"

Smithing--Sounds best with "ing"

Mining--Sounds best with "ing"

Herblore--Not a verb

Agility--Not a verb

Thieving--Sounds best with "ing"

Slayer--One of the few that sound better with "er"

Farming--Sounds better with "ing"

Runecrafting--Sounds Better with "ing"

Hunter--Sounds better with "ing"

I'm with Troj on this. It is pretty much trapping animals. :?

It's probably mainly because Jagex is scared that if guns were added to the game that little kids would go out, grab a handgun, and go on a killing rampage.

News headline: "Child kills parents and friends imitating Runescape."

:-#

(When I started writing this I intended it to be sarcasm. I think it went in the other direction :o)
